Efficient and stereoselective syntheses are described for the preparation of 2,3,9,10-tetrabromo-1,4-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroanthracenes 7, 8 and the corresponding 1,4-diol 17 by silver ion-assisted solvolysis of hexabromotetrahydroanthracene 6. Base-promoted aromatization of 7 and 8 afforded synthetically valuable tribromo-1-methoxyanthracenes 10 and 11. The reaction of 17 with sodium methoxide generated tribromodihydroanthracene-1,4-diol 27, whose oxidation with PCC gave 2,9,10-tribromoanthracene-1,4-dione (28). Therefore a selective and efficient method was developed for the preparation of compound 28 starting from 9,10-dibromoanthracene (1), in a simple four-step process. Compounds 10 and 11, and diol 27 constitute key precursors for the preparation of functionalized substituted anthracene derivatives that are difficult to prepare by other routes. The studies also reveal the broad range of reactivity and selectivity of the stereoisomeric anthracene derivatives.

Although research indicates that almost all emerging adults in the U.S. use the internet, little is known about the online dating experiences of persons with disabilities. Particularly in developed countries, online dating currently accounts for a substantial proportion of the initiation of romantic relationships and promises numerous advantages for persons with disabilities. Online dating includes a way to escape disability stigma, at least initially, access to a wide network of potential partners, and a convenient, private, and efficient method of meeting them. Online daters can be strategic in how they present both themselves and their disabilities, the manner in which they communicate with potential partners, and whether they join a large, popular dating site or a specialized disability-oriented one. The chapter discusses how the nine-step process of online dating might differ for or challenge emerging adults with various types of disabilities, sharing relevant research and media examples when available.

Background: 1,4-benzothiazine carboxylates show wide application in the field of medicinal chemistry. Therefore, we have designed convenient and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,4-benzothiazine carboxylates. Objective: Synthesis of 1,4-benzothiazine carboxylates and its guanidines by simple and facile method using efficient catalyst. Method: Derivatives of 1,4-benzothiazine carboxylates were synthesized by cyclocondensing β-keto esters with 2- aminobenzenethiols using CAN as a catalyst at room temperature. 1,4-benzothiazine caboxylate, condensed with guanidine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium methoxide in DMF to obtained new 3-substituted-l-4Hbenzo[b][1,4]thiazine-2-carboxyguanidines (88-91%). Results: All the products were obtained with good to excellent yields within 40 min. Here, CAN oxidizes aminothiophenol into disulfide and then nucleophilic attack of enolic form of β-ketoesters on the disulphide and 1, 4-benzothiazine acetates, were obtained with good yields. Conclusion: We have designed convenient and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,4-benzothiazine carboxylates. Most remarkable features of this cyclocondensation such as use of efficient catalyst and non-volatile solvent under mild reaction condition to obtained excellent yield.

In cultured skeletal muscle cells of chick, one intermediate filament protein, vimentin, is primarily formed and then synthesis of desmin follows. Coexistence of vimentin and desmin has been immunocytochemically confirmed in chick embryonic skeletal musclecells. Immunofluorescent localization of vimentin and desmin has been described in developing myocardial cells of hamster. However, initial localization of desmin and vimentin in early embryonic heart has not been reported in detail. By quick-freeze deep-etch method a loose network of intermediate filaments was revealed to exist surrounding myofibrils. In this report, immunocytochemical localization of desmin and vimentin is visualized in early stages of chick embryonic my ocardium.Chick embryos, Hamburger-Hamilton (H-H) stage 8 to hatch, and 1 day old postnatal chicks were used in this study. For immunofluorescence study, each embryo was fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and embedded in Epon 812. De-epoxinized with sodium methoxide, semithin sections were stained with primary antibodies (rabbit anti-desmin antibody and anti-vimentin antibody)and secondary antibody (RITC conjugated goat-anti rabbit IgG).

Ethylene is the simplest unsaturated hydrocarbon, yet it has profound effects on plant growth and development, including many agriculturally important phenomena. Analysis of the mechanisms underlying ethylene biosynthesis and signalling have resulted in the elucidation of multistep mechanisms which at first glance appear simple, but in fact represent several levels of control to tightly regulate the level of production and response. Ethylene biosynthesis represents a two-step process that is regulated at both the transcriptional and post-translational levels, thus enabling plants to control the amount of ethylene produced with regard to promotion of responses such as climacteric flower senescence and fruit ripening. Ethylene production subsequently results in activation of the ethylene response, as ethylene accumulation will trigger the ethylene signalling pathway to activate ethylene-dependent transcription for promotion of the response and for resetting the pathway. A more detailed knowledge of the mechanisms underlying biosynthesis and the ethylene response will ultimately enable new approaches to be developed for control of the initiation and progression of ethylene-dependent developmental processes, many of which are of horticultural significance.

SummaryAdhesion of rat blood platelets to native rat tail collagen fibrils was studied in the electron microscope under conditions that preserved collagen-associated proteoglycans (CAPG). The CAPG molecules were aligned in chain-like configurations that encircled the fibrils with a 65 nm period; they appeared to coat the fibrils completely and extended 60-100 nm away from the fibril. The initial platelet-fibril contact occurred between the platelet glycocalyx and the CAPG of the fibrils i.e. between two surfaces with net-negative charges. When close contact was established between the fibril surface proper and the platelet membrane, CAPG were not identified in the area of contact, and the collagen-platelet distance was reduced to a ~10-12 nm wide gap traversed by delicate links in register with fibril periodicities.
