A range extension of the native Balkan terrapin Mauremys rivulata is documented along the Ofkos river at the upper part of the Morfou plain, in Cyprus. Several individuals of both sexes and of different age, were caught using turtle net traps in late April 2021; different measurements were recorded, including length, width and weight. The area where the terrapins were discovered consists of deep ponds on the Ofkos riverbed, which maintain permanent and semi-permanent aquatic refugia, even during prolonged periods of drought. This is the 5th river location in Cyprus, where M. rivulata has been documented. It is assumed that this particular population has been isolated from other populations, since there is very little chance of frequent dispersal over land between the nearest existing populations of the Klimos and Pedieos rivers, respectively. Since the majority of this type of river habitat in Cyprus rapidly dries out during the long drought season, this area is of high conservation value for M. rivulata, as well as for other aquatic and wetland species. Therefore, it is of vital importance that this location falls within a proposed newly planned protected area.

Within the Project “Animal Biodiversity Monitoring in the Alpine Environment” the Orthoptera fauna has been studied in a three-year period (2013-2015). The first check-list of the protected area, with ecological and biogeographical notes, is presented. We found 40 species (16 Ensifera, 24 Caelifera), corresponding to 11% of the Italian Orthoptera fauna. A geographic differentiation in species distribution among the three areas (Alto Adige - BZ, Trentino - TN and Lombardy - BS and SO) has been detected. The genus Barbitistes is represented by B. serricauda in Alto Adige and B. alpinus in Trentino and Lombardy. Kisella irena is restricted to Peio and Rabbi Valleys only, in connection with this species distribution in Trentino. Within the Park, Euthystira brachyptera is distributed only in Lombardy, despite its habitat is apparently extensively available also in Trentino and Alto Adige. We found Omocestus haemorrhoidalis and Chorthippus vagans only in Val Venosta (BZ). Only two species, previously reported for the study area, has not been detected during our surveys: Celes variabilis and Ruspolia nitidula. The first site of presence of Tettigonia caudata, rare in Italy, within the Park boundaries has been discovered near Martello (BZ). Two endangered taxa of high conservation value, Epacromius tergestinus ponticus and Crysochraon dispar, reported in the last Century just outside the Park boundaries, are probably extinct today due to habitat loss.

Abstract We present data on a new record of Toromys grandis, a species not sampled for almost 60 years. The species is known from the newly-collected specimen and 206 specimens housed in museums worldwide. The gut morphology, consisting of very long intestines and well-developed caecum, suggest that T. grandis is a potential herbivore also adapted to omnivory. Our record at the Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (RDS) Piagaçu-Purus extends the range of T. grandis approximately 150 km southwestward and represents the second record of the species within a protected area.

The lichen diversity of the proposed protected area Pukhtolova Gora counts 252 species, including 232 lichenized, 12 lichenicolous, and 8 non-lichenized saprobic fungi. Micarea laeta, M. pusilla, and Pyrenidium actinellum s. lat. are new to North-Western European Russia; Parmelia serrana, Rhizocarpon cinereovirens, and Stereocaulon taeniarum are new to St. Petersburg. Altogether 13 species recorded in the study area are red-listed in St. Petersburg, with two of them known only from historical collections. Pukhtolova Gora is an area with a high conservation value; the lichen biota of this area is one of the richest within the city limits due to the well-preserved forest habitats.

Three old specimens of <em>Stephanopachys</em> <em>linearis</em> (Kugelann, 1792) from NE Italy, Udine Province (Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region) are recorded. This is the first certain record of this species for Italy since the only previous records, from South Tyrol, were doubtful. This new record is of high conservation value, since this species is protected by the Habitats Directive in the European Union. Distributional and biological data on <em>S. linearis</em> are summarized and it is documented that the previous, doubtful literature records from South Tyrol are erroneous.

AbstractConservation programmes are always limited by available resources. Careful planning is therefore required to increase the efficiency of conservation and gap analysis can be used for this purpose. This method was used to assess the representativeness of current ex situ and in situ conservation actions of 234 priority crop wild relatives (CWR) in Indonesia. This analysis also included species distribution modelling, the creation of an ecogeographical land characterization map, and a complementarity analysis to identify priorities area for in situ conservation and for further collecting of ex situ conservation programmes. The results show that both current ex situ and in situ conservation actions are insufficient. Sixty-six percent of priority CWRs have no recorded ex situ collections. Eighty CWRs with ex situ collections are still under-represented in the national genebanks and 65 CWRs have no presence records within the existing protected area network although 60 are predicted to exist in several protected areas according to their potential distribution models. The complementarity analysis shows that a minimum of 61 complementary grid areas (complementary based on grid cells) are required to conserve all priority taxa and 40 complementary protected areas (complementary based on existing protected areas) are required to conserve those with known populations within the existing in situ protected area network. The top ten of complementary protected areas are proposed as the initial areas for the development of CWR genetic reserves network in Indonesia. It is recommended to enhanced coordination between ex situ and in situ conservation stakeholders for sustaining the long term conservation of CWR in Indonesia. Implementation of the research recommendations will provide for the first time an effective conservation planning of Indonesia’s CWR diversity and will significantly enhance the country’s food and nutritional security.

Ayerbe’s snail-eater Sibon ayerbeorum is a nocturnal, tree-dwelling snake which was recently described based on four specimens collected in the proximity of Munchique National Natural Park, department of Cauca, Colombia, above 1000 m altitude. We here expand the distribution range of S. ayerbeorum into the department of Chocó, Colombia. The new record extends the distributional range of the Ayerbe’s snail-eater by nearly 288 km in a straight-line north-western ward from its type locality and is more than 1000 m below it.

Corbicula fluminea (M&uuml;ller, 1774) is an Asian freshwater clam that is widely distributed throughout the world through multiple introductions. Its invasion can cause environmental and economic damage. In Brazil, C. fluminea is recorded in all major hydrographic basins. Here, we report the first record of C. fluminea in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region of Goi&aacute;s, Brazil. This new record extends the known distribution of this species to a conserved area in the Cerrado biome, towards areas of interest for conservation and integral protection units of the biodiversity.
