Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774) is an Asian freshwater clam that is widely distributed throughout the world through multiple introductions. Its invasion can cause environmental and economic damage. In Brazil, C. fluminea is recorded in all major hydrographic basins. Here, we report the first record of C. fluminea in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region of Goiás, Brazil. This new record extends the known distribution of this species to a conserved area in the Cerrado biome, towards areas of interest for conservation and integral protection units of the biodiversity.

Corbicula fluminea is an invasive clam originally from Asia that threatens the biodiversity of freshwater communities around the world. It has greatly expanded in Brazil since its first record. We report here the occurrence of C. fluminea from Piauí state, Parnaíba river basin and, provide an assessment of its current distribution in Brazil. The compiled data include 382 records in 22 states and the Federal District, encompassing a variety of ecosystems. These results contribute to a discussion about the invasion and expansion process of C. fluminea in Brazil over time.

The genus Setodiscophrya Jankowski, 1981 has been previously recorded only from Germany, France, Russia, Ukraine and Japan. We provide the new record of Setodiscophrya steinii (Claparède and Lachmann, 1859) as an ectosymbiont of Ochthebius sp., in the province of Basilicata, Italy which represents the first record of the genus Setodiscophrya for Italy and the first worldwide record of S. steinii being associated to the coleopteran family Hydraenidae (Ochthebius sp.). The range distribution of S. steinii is expanded 900 km southwards.

Saccharomycetales are ascomycetic yeasts and among them the genus Blastobotrys has approximately 30 known species. Blastobotrys malaysiensis is a yeast species, described from cave samples, known until then only from Malaysia. In this study, we characterize a new strain and report the second occurrence record of this species. Here, Blastobotrys malaysiensis SXS675, was collected from soil samples from a cave in the Parque Estadual de Terra Ronca (PETER) in Goiás, Brazil. Phylogenetic analyzes revealed strong support with the sequence of the species type, as well as with other species of the clade. This new record contributes by providing new molecular data for the species and expanding the knowledge of its distribution beyond the Asian continent. First record of a yeast for the American continent and its second mention for the world.

The bee mimicking hover fly genus Volucella Geoffroy, 1762 and the potter wasp mimicking genus Monoceromyia Shannon, 1922 are reported for the first time from South India. Brief diagnosis of Volucella trifasciata Wiedemann, 1830 and Monoceromyia javana (Wiedemann, 1824), high-resolution images of the habitus and other important characters, as well as notes on their distribution, mimicry and biology are provided. Key words: Volucella, Monoceromyia, batesian mimicry, new record, range extension

Moringua edwardsi is recorded for the first time at Atol das Rocas, northeastern Brazil. Previous records of the species were located in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida to southeastern Brazil, but with many gaps between these regions. A single specimen was collected in Atol das Rocas in July 2007 and it is deposited in the Dias da Rocha Ichthyological Collection. The new record of M. edwardsi fills a geographic distribution gap of this species and complements the inventory of fish species inhabiting one of the most unique marine protected areas in the world.

Corbicula fluminea is a very prolific invasive species around the world. In order to document the dispersal of this species in the Midwest Region of Brazil, we sampled 10 sites in the Teles Pires River in September 2006 and September 2012. We standardized the sampling effort by the number of drags, distance and size of the sieve. The average density of C. fluminea in 2006 was 6.36 individuals/m2 and 26.42 individuals/m2 in 2012. Corbicula fluminea is adapted to regional environmental characteristics such as climate, temperature and rainfall, and could become a problem in new hydroelectric dams that are setting up on site.

This article provides the first record of Fluvicola nengeta in Distrito Federal, Central Brazil. The distance between the new record and the nearest point where it was previously recorded is about 180 km. The deforestation associated with the mechanization and expansion of agropastoral system in the Cerrado biome, coupled with the plasticity of the species to occupy various habitats presents the major contributors in the expansion of F. nengeta, contributing to its increasing expansion in the Midwest region of the Brazil.

We report the second record of Puna Ibis, Plegadis ridgwayi J.A. Allen, 1876 (Aves, Threskiornithidae), from Ecuador and the first record of this species in seasonally dry tropical forests of the southwest of the country. An individual of P. ridgwayi was sighted in November in Zapotillo, Loja province, 440 km from the only previous record in Ecuador and 65 km from the northernmost Peruvian record. The new record from Ecuador, along with records from the northern coast of Peru, suggests that P. ridgwayi may be expanding its geographic distribution northward in this region.

The Galapagos slipper lobster Scyllarides astori was found for the first time off western Mexico mainland. A male and two female specimens were collected in south Jalisco and north Colima. This represents a new record from central Pacific coast of Mexico and a range extension of 700 km southwards, as the species was previously reported from the Gulf of California, 780 km eastwards from Revillagigedo Archipelago and 2400 km northwestwards from Isla del Coco and Galapagos Archipelago.

We document a new locality of Diaemus youngi in the Cerrado biome, extend the distribution in Mato Grosso do Sul state (southwestern Brazil), and present the first record of a vampire bat species from the state’s capital, Campo Grande. We recorded one male adult in an urban remnant of Cerrado. There are few locality data for this species in the Cerrado biome and our report significantly adds to the knowledge of this species’ distribution within the state and throughout Brazil.
