Abstract In construction industry, demolished construction waste is recently used as reprocessed aggregate to produce environmentally friendly concrete which is a good substitute to normal crush due to increased demand of ecological growth and conservation benefits. Though, the properties of recycled aggregate concrete are smallest as compared to concrete produced from natural aggregate and these properties can be enhanced by adding some materials having cementitious properties. Rice husk ash (RHA) is used as partial replacement of cement in recycled aggregate concrete to improve the properties as well as to conserve the natural resources. The elementary purpose of this investigation is to determine the compressive strength of concrete by the replacement of cement with different percentages of rice husk ash such as 0%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5%, 15%, and 17.5% respectively with different curing conditions. For the experimental program approximate 198 cylinders (18 for rapid curing, 90 for normal water curing and 90 for acid curing) are casted with the mix proportion of 1:2:4 and water to cement ratio of 0.50 whereas curing is done at the ages of 3,7,14,21 and 28 days. Various experiments are performed on fresh and hardened concrete to determine the effects of rice husk ash on recycled aggregate concrete with different curing conditions. Linear regression analysis is carried out to determine the compressive strength of concrete. It is pragmatic from the slump test results that the workability of recycled aggregate concrete is decreased by increasing the quantity of rice husk ash. This reduction in slump is due to high water absorption of recycled aggregates and rice husk ash. Further, the compressive strength of recycled aggregate concrete with normal and acid curing is decreased by increasing the percentages of rice husk ash. It is also observed that at 28- days of normal water curing for mix M1,M2,M3,M4,M5 and M6 the compressive strength is increased by 0.96%, 2.74% 1.45%,4.50%,4.23% and 4.22% respectively as compared to the compressive strength values at 28 days of acid water curing. Therefore, it is concluded that recycled aggregate concrete with 10 to 12% of rice husk ash is suitable for properties of concrete. The acid water curing has negative impacts on hardened properties of concrete as it reduced the compressive strength of concrete as compared to normal water curing.

Abstract The admixture of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) in new concretes is an interesting alternative in the efforts to mitigate environmental impacts. RCA may increase porosity and change properties of concretes. Rice husk ash (RHA) is employed as supplementary cementitious material may improve concrete properties. The present study investigated the shrinkage of concrete prepared with RCA and RHA, proposing a mathematical model to explain the phenomenon. Concretes were produced with 25% and 50% of coarse recycled aggregate as replacement of natural aggregate, 0%, 10%, and 20% of RHA as replacement of cement, and a water-to-binder ratio of 0.64. Water absorption and capillary and total porosities were analyzed on day 28. Shrinkage tests were conducted on days 1, 4, 7, 14, 28, 63, 91, and 112. The results point to a significant interaction between RHA and RCA.

In the present investigation, a feasibility study is made to use Rice Husk Ash as an admixture to an already replaced Cement with fly ash (Portland Pozzolana Cement) in Concrete, and an attempt has been made to investigate the strength parameters of concrete (Compressive and Flexural). For control concrete, Indian Standard (IS) method of mix design is adopted. Five different replacement levels namely 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5% and 15% were chosen for the replacement study. A range of curing periods starting from 3 days, 7 days, 28 days and 56 days are considered in the present study. Series ranging from 5% to 10% RHA concrete but better compressive strengths at later ages though showing lower compressive strengths initially. However, split tensile strengths are lower for RHA concrete when compared to normal concrete.

This study investigates the progressions in mechanical properties of concrete by substitution of cement by Rice Husk Ash (RHA) in conjunction with superplasticizers. Rice husk is a by-product of the rice milling process, with inexact generation of 200 kg for every one ton of rice. Diffusion of Rice Husk Ash in the concrete matrix enhance the properties of the concrete. This investigation has been done to determine the strength parameters of concrete with various extents of cement supplemented by Rice Husk Ash. M20 grade concrete (Designed as per Indian standards) was tried with substitutions by weight of the cement amount by 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% and 15%. Various strength Test results reveal enhancement of strength at 5% substitution of cement by rice husk with compressive strength and flexural strength having an increment of 9.78% and 25.09% respectively as compared to the control mix. Pulse velocity test of the modified concrete at 5% replacement of cement by rice husk ash confirms it as a “good” dense Concrete matrix.
