We report on the first investigation of feather mites associated with birds living on the Barton Peninsula (King George Island, Antarctica). We found seven feather mite species of the superfamily Analgoidea from four host species. Two new species are described from two charadriiform hosts: Alloptes (Sternalloptes) antarcticussp. nov. (Alloptidae) from Stercorarius maccormicki Saunders (Stercorariidae), and Ingrassia chionissp. nov. (Xolalgidae) from Chionis albus (Gmelin) (Chionidae). Additionally, we provide partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), which was utilized as a DNA barcode, for all seven feather mite species.

Two new species of the genus Analges (Astigmata: Analgoidea) are described from two species of accentors (Passeriformes: Prunellidae): Analges himalayanus sp. nov. from the Altai Accentor P. himalayana (Blyth), and A. slovakiensis sp. nov. from the Alpine Accentor Prunella collaris (Scopoli). Both species are closely related to A. bidentatus Giebel, 1871 described from the Dunnock Prunella modularis (Linnaeus). We extended the standard morphological descriptions of feather mites by species delimitation analyses carried out on DNA barcode sequences.

Two new pterodectine feather mite species collected in Indonesia (Kalimantan) are described: Montesauria indonesiana sp. n. from the Asian glossy starling Aplonis panayensis (Scopoli, 1786) (Passeriformes, Sturnidae), and Proterothrix murariui sp. n. from the White-rumped woodpecker Meiglyptes tristis (Horsfield, 1821) (Piciformes, Picidae). Males of M. indonesiana have adanal and opisthoventral circular shields, surrounding the base of setae g and ps3, respectively, and females have the anterior and lobar parts of hysteronotal shields well delimited from each other by a transverse groove. The new species of Proterothrix described here is the first species of this genus discovered on a host of the family Picidae. This species has unique character states and cannot be included in any of the species groups defined so far within the genus. In both sexes, dorsal hysterosomal setae c1 are absent and hysterosomal setae cp are spiculiform. Males of P. murariui have a pregenital sclerite (epiandrum), the aedeagus is band-shaped, thickened in the anterior half and narrowed in the posterior half, the terminal lobes have two pairs of trapezoidal membranous extensions, coxal fields I are almost closed, and coxal fields III are open. Females have a narrow terminal cleft, parallel-sided in the anterior 2/3, large and with oblique margins in the posterior 1/3.

Two new feather mite species collected from the Huet's fulvetta, Alcippe hueti (Passeriformes, Leiothrichidae), in China are described: Proterothrix dinghushani sp. n. (Proctophyllodidae) and Trouessartia pauciseta sp. n. (Trouessartiidae). Males of P. dinghushani have a pair of lateral hysteronotal sclerites and a closed pentagonal sclerotized frame in the postero-median part of propodosoma. Females of this species have the sternum 1/4 of the total length of epimerites, and the terminal cleft exceeds half of the length of the lobar shield. Both sexes of T. pauciseta have a distinctive character, the absence of 3 pairs of hysteronotal setae (d1, d2, and e2), that clearly differs this species from all previously known species of the genus.

Two new species of the feather mite genus Trochilodectes Park & Atyeo (Acariformes: Proctophyllodidae) are described from hummingbirds (Apodiformes: Trochilidae) in Colombia: T. capitocaudatus sp. nov. from Ocreatus underwoodii (Lesson, 1832) and T. andinus sp. nov. from Phaethornis guy (Lesson, 1833). A key to all presently known species of the genus Trochilodectes is presented.

Two new species of feather mites from the superfamily Analgoidea are described from the grey-headed woodpecker, Picus canus, in Korea: Neopteronyssus koreanus sp. nov. (Pteronyssidae) and Proterothrix picinus sp. nov. (Proctophyllodidae: Pterodectinae). Feather mites of the genera Neopteronyssus Mironov, 2002 and Proterothrix Gaud, 1968 are described for the first time in Korea. Morphological descriptions of both new species are complemented with partial sequences of their mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene as DNA barcodes.

Proctophyllodes Robin (Proctophyllodidae: Proctophyllodinae) is a widely distributed feather mite genus, which most species show high level of specificity to their bird hosts. We describe two new species of this genus from passerines commonly found in urban environments in Brazil: Proctophyllodes molothrus sp. nov. from the Shiny Cowbird Molothrus bonariensis (Gmelin) (Icteridae), and P. carmenmirandae sp. nov. from the Rufous-collared Sparrow Zonotrichia capensis (Statius Müller) (Passerellidae). The former is similar to P. egglestoni Spory and differs from it in having a unique shape of opisthosomal lobes in females; P. carmenmirandae is closer to P. tiaris Atyeo & Braasch and differs in having a relatively longer adeagus in males and setae h1 situated on soft tegument between hysteronotal and lobar shields in females.

We describe two new pterodectine feather mites (Analgoidea: Proctophyllodidae) from Brazilian passerines (Passeriformes): Pterodectes amaurochalinus sp. n., from Turdus amaurochalinus Cabanis (Turdidae), and Dolichodectes neotropicus sp. n., collected from Elaenia chiriquensis Lawrence (Tyrannidae). A key to species of the genus Dolichodectes is presented.

A new species of quill mites Picobia dziabaszewskii sp. nov. (Acari, Syringophilidae) parasitizing Garrulax formosus(Verreaux) (Passeriformes: Leiothrichidae) is described using combined data sources: standard morphological informa-tion extended by mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I sequence (COI) and domene D2 of the nuclear gene 28S rDNA data(DNA barcode). Additionally, the case of polymorphism within domene D2 region of 28 rDNA is registered for the first time in syringophilid mites.
