In this chapter, a Semantic Web services-based knowledge management framework that enables holistic knowledge management in organizations is presented. As the economy is becoming one single global marketplace, where the best offer wins, organizations have to search for competitive advantage within themselves. With the growing awareness that key potentials of an organization lie within its people and their knowledge, efficient knowledge management is becoming one of key focuses in organizational activities. The proposed knowledge management framework is based on Semantic Web technologies and service-oriented architecture, supporting the operational business processes as well as knowledge-based management of services in service-oriented architecture.

One of the key challenges of the Service Oriented Architecture is the discovery of relevant services for a given task. In Semantic Web Services, service discovery is generally achieved by using the service profile ontology of OWL-S. Profile of a service is a derived, concise description and not a functional part of the semantic web service. There is no schema present in the service profile to describe the input, output (IO), and the IOs in the service profile are not always annotated with ontology concepts, whereas the process model has such a schema to describe the IOs which are always annotated with ontology concepts. In this paper, we propose a complementary sophisticated matchmaking approach which uses the concrete process model ontology of OWL-S instead of the concise service profile ontology. Empirical analysis shows that high precision and recall can be achieved by using the process model-based service discovery.

Offering public access to efficient transactional stock market functionalities is of interest to all banks and bank users. Traditional service oriented architecture (SOA) technology succeeds at providing reasonable, good Web-based brokerage solutions, but may lack extensibility possibilities. By introducing Semantic Web Services (SWS) as a way to integrate third party services from distributed service providers, we propose in this chapter an innovative way to offer online real-time solutions that are easy-to-use for customers. The combined use of ontologies and SWS allows different users to define their own portfolio management strategies regardless of the information provider. In deed the semantic layer is a powerful way to integrate the information of many providers in an easy way. With due regard for more development of security technological issues, research on SWS has shown that the deployment of the technology in commercial solutions is within sight.

The phrase “Web Services (WSs)” are emerging as a creative scheme for furnishing the services to various immanent devices over the World Wide Web. The hasty intensification of the WSs applications and the availability of the vast count of the Service Providers create the certainty of selecting the “efficient” Service Provider by the consumers. The scenario Deduplication and Quality-of-Service (QoS) swears out as an objective to distinguish various Service Providers (SPs). The process of selecting proficient WSs / SPs, positioning and optimization of WSs Compositions are exigent dimensions of research with momentous entailments for the fruition of the “Web of Services” revelation. The term “Semantic WSs” follows appropriate semantic descriptions of WS functionality and a medium to facilitate programmed cogitating over WS Compositions (WSCs). The persisting model of the Semantic Web Services (SWSs) deals with the intriguing emerges like wretched forecast of best WSs and gemination of services with effective SPs, which heads to Quality level degradation on the Semantic Web. To deal the above identified issues, the anticipated research is planned to construct a model to manipulative the content similarities (semantic), consumption of a mixture of WSs and its corresponding SPs. After assessing these params, all the WSs are stratified on the basis of its consumption. Ultimately, the nominated scheme, selects the best and non duplicated copy of the WSs on the basis of its rating and placed it in the WSC. The process of detecting the duplicate copy would be performed by the Cryptographic Hash value of the Services. From the experimental annotations, it is recognized that our anticipated design amends the functionality of the SWSs in terms of Processor Utilization, Accessing Time, and its Space optimizations

The use of Web services as a means of dynamically discovering, negotiating, composing, executing and managing services to materialize enterprise-scale workflow is an active research topic. Existing approaches involve many disparate concepts, frameworks and technologies. What is needed is a comprehensive and overarching framework that handles the processing and workflow requirements of Virtual Organizations, maps them to a collection of service-oriented tasks, dynamically configures these tasks from available services, and manages the choreography and execution of these services. The goal is to add semantics to Web services to endow them with capabilities needed for their successful deployment in enterprise-scale systems for Virtual Organizations. This paper introduces such a framework, the Knowledge-based Dynamic Semantic Web Services (KDSWS) Framework that addresses in an integrated end-to-end manner, the life-cycle of activities involved in preparing, publishing, requesting, discovering, selecting, configuring, deploying, and delivering Semantic Web Services. In particular, the following issues are addressed with an emphasis on adaptability to rapidly changing environments and standards: (1) semantic specification of both service's and requestor's capabilities, constraints and preferences including quality of service, trust, and security; (2) transaction control and workflow management; and (3) resource management, interoperation and evolution of the Virtual Organization.

An emerging technology like business process execution language (BPEL) and its implementation in BPEL for Web services (BPEL4WS) gives extra possibilities in describing business processes. It further adheres, as a technology, in a consistent way to the underlying Web service-based implementation technology and is a perfect fit for service-oriented architectures (SOA) as they are currently implemented throughout organizations as a successor to enterprise application integration (EAI). However, BPEL4WS, in its current implementation, will only serve in a static way for production workflows. In this chapter we discuss how Semantic Web services through a semantic service-oriented architecture (SSOA) can be used to extend BPEL4WS to create ad hoc and collaborative workflows.
