Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) is an advanced online business tool that allows many companies to launch their websites and helps customers search their specific products shown on the websites. Decision Support Systems (DSSs) are computerized tools designed to facilitate strategic decision making. With the support of data mining and business intelligence methods, DSSs can effectively increase the performance of decision making and can present a sophisticated method of managerial thinking in a timely and effective manner toward gaining competitive advantage. The chapter argues that utilizing e-commerce and DSSs has the potential to enhance business performance and reach strategic goals in modern business.

Competing in global marketplace has pressured managers respond to shifting market trends by increasing product quality, business process reengineering, and decreasing time to market for new products. Within emerging economies top executives have realized that adoption of appropriate information technologies such a decision support systems (DSS) and group decision support systems (GDSS) have led to changes in the existing organizational structure and communication mechanisms. This paper explores the advantages and constraints of DSS and GDSS in formulating manufacturing strategies in emergent economies. We argued that to fit appropriate information technology to organizational design top executive would benefit from strategic information systems planning process. This process enables top executives to invest in appropriate information system that fits their structural arrangements and organizational culture. Moreover, we explored the impact of DSS and GDSS on executive decision-making capabilities. We also explored the methodology for implementation of appropriate information systems in manufacturing firms in emergent economies.

Recently, the concept of intelligent energy systems becomes more popular in Russia. In order to implement such systems, it is required both development and usage of modern information technologies to manage technological infrastructure, and upgrade of this infrastructure. In turn, infrastructure upgrade requires a strategic decision-making for energy sector development. To provide a high quality of such decisions, intellectualization of the process of making them is required. This article deals with usage of agent-service approach for development of intelligent decision support systems (IDSS). Concepts of agent and multiagent system are being considered. Detailed description of agentservice approach and architecture of a typical IDSS, used in this approach, is provided. Also, article considers usage of agent-service approach for development of IDSS “Situation polygon” (for strategic decision-making support in energy sector) and web-oriented information-analytical system WIS (for impact assessment of the energy sector on geoecology). In the future, we plan to add additional functionality in these systems, in particular, to provide in the “Situation polygon” an automatic setting of the values of connections in cognitive maps based on the values of connections in the ontology, and to add in WIS the possibility of calculating the trajectory of the transfer of harmful substances.

The chapter is on the geospatial decision support systems. Challenges arise when simple GIS is used to support complex problems encountered at higher level, strategic decision-making, and long-term development planning. In this case, SDI can be more valuable. The chapter presents the perspective of information systems for decision support taking into account the following: the levels of decisions and the process of decision making. Trends on the tools and framework for interactive decision support systems are discussed focusing on geospatial decision support systems based on GIS and SDI.

This chapter describes and analyzes the experience of the Egyptian government in spreading the awareness of information technology and its use in managing socio-economic development through building multiple information handling and decision support systems in messy, turbulent and changing environments. The successes over the past 10 years in developing, implementing and sustaining state-of-the-art decision support systems for central governmental decision making holds many lessons for the implementation of sophisticated systems under conditions of extreme difficulty.

The reception of journalists at the Waspada Daily Medan always went through several rigorous selections before being determined to be accepted as journalists at the Waspada Medan Daily. There are several criteria that must be possessed by each participant as a condition for becoming a journalist in the Daily Alert Medan. To get the best participants, the Waspada Medan Daily needed a decision support system. Decision Support Systems (SPK) are part of computer-based information systems (including knowledge-based systems (knowledge management)) that are used to support decision making within an organization or company. Decision support systems provide a semitructured decision, where no one knows exactly how the decision should be made. In this study the authors applied the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) as the method to be applied in the decision support system application. The VIKOR method is part of the Multi-Attibut Decision Making (MADM) Concept, which requires normalization in its calculations. The expected results in this study can obtain maximum decisions. Keywords: Journalist Acceptance, Decision Support System, VIKOR
