A Framework for Analyzing Information Systems in an Integrated Supply Chain Environment

The concept and study of supply chains are nothing new. The concept of integrated supply chain environments (ISCE), however, has received increased study as of late. Technology has become the enabling factor for corporations to share information externally and to improve material flow within the supply chain. Many benefits can be realized from an integrated supply chain environment, including improved customer relations, cost reductions, and increased competitive advantage. Despite the potential benefits, there are many factors that lead to failed integrated supply chain implementations. Many of the major factors that lead to failure are not due to technological reasons but rather to the failure of the project team to recognize the complexities of the implementations of integrated supply chains. This chapter introduces the Interaction Approach methodology as a framework for analyzing supply chains in the hope of improving the design, development, and implementation of integrated supply chain environments.

This article aims to study the harmony of supply chain actors in Live Animal Export at Gurage Zone, Ethiopia. This problem is relevant and researches in this sense can help policies that aim to improve the functioning of supply chains. Harmony of supply chain is the collaboration level of supply chain participants which is measured in terms of common planning and action guidelines they have, how they share information and generally the overall relations they have one another. Being descriptive in design, the study has targeted main live animals supply chain actors who are 719 producers, 6 traders and 2 exporters in Gurage zone from whom 257 producers were randomly chosen as a sample and all the traders and exporter have been used directly from whom questionnaires were collected from. The findings have proved that there is relatively consistent flow of information throughout the supply chain actors in live animals export in Gurage zone. Additionally there have been seen that there is a culture of planning jointly among the chain actors followed by having common updating means in case of plan fails to meet the expectations even though there exists problems of sitting for evaluation of actions made by the chain elements which is the key for future improvement of the export business. Finally it has been found that the overall harmony of the chain actors is attractive with some reservations.

This chapter explores how a mobile tracking technology is able to further streamline the integrated supply chain. Previous technologies which have attempted to integrate suppliers, manufactures, distributors and retailers have lacked the flexibility and efficiency necessary to justify the prohibiting costs. Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology however enables various organizations along the supply chain to share information regarding specific products and easily remotely manage internal inventory levels. These applications are only a sample of what RFID is able to accomplish for the integrated supply chain, and this chapter seeks to explore those applications.

In the rapidly changing global business environment, it can be seen that supply chain designs based solely on efficiency and speed do not necessarily lead to a sustainable competitive advantage. According to Lee (2004), this can only be done if supply chains are designed to incorporate the Triple A: Agility, Adaptability and Alignment. Although Lee provided some examples, to date his claim has not been empirically tested, which is essential. A number of studies have looked at the three component parts of the Triple A separately, but as yet no studies have focused on all three Triple A components concurrently, or on the impact they have on business performance. The main aim of this chapter is to determine the dimensions and factors that characterize these variables, in order to empirically test the accuracy of Lee’s claim.

The purpose of this document is to present the evolution of the supply chain with different points of view, from the perspective of the main authors on the subject, in order to show the benefits and difficulties faced in carrying out the sustainable orientation of the supply chain (SSCO). For this research, it is necessary to take into account from which point each of the definitions that helped reach the concept of SSCO was born and how the concept has changed over the years. It is interesting to note that currently the concept does not have a specific definition, because it is in a boom in recent years, which makes it an attractive topic to investigate and learn more in depth. In Colombia it has very few exponents of the subject. Therefore, researching SSCO can generate a competitive advantage in the industry for supply chains that compete in the interior and exterior of the country.

PurposeLimited research examines the triple-A supply chain of agility, adaptability and alignment. The purpose of this paper is to draw on extant literature under the lens of resource orchestration theory to develop a comprehensive framework of antecedents and consequences of triple-A supply chains, allowing both scholars and practitioners to benchmark and prioritize triple-A capabilities.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review focusing on four supply chain journals is conducted to integrate the distinct bodies of knowledge on supply chain agility, adaptability and alignment.FindingsThe integration of this literature identifies common and distinct antecedents and consequences of each, developing a comprehensive model of triple-A supply chains as well as proposing opportunities for further study.Originality/valueLimited studies to date have an integrated agility, adaptability and alignment, thus lacking a comprehensive framework of triple-A supply chains. Managers can use the findings to determine actions needed to deploy triple-A capabilities and better understand the resulting potential benefits.

In an effort for global excellence in international business, Gabon supply chains must achieve a competitive advantage by ensuring that they are as effective as possible. This paper develops the compound supply chain efficiency model using variables expressly identified as problem areas encountered by Gabonese supply chains. The compound supply chain efficiency model evaluates the supply chain global efficiency based on the efficiency of reliability, velocity, and cost. It identifies barriers along the supply chain and determines key focus areas for corporations if they want to ameliorate their global efficiency and become more competitive. The compound supply chain efficiency model can either be used to compare various supply chains or it can be used to compare the same supply chain over time to determine if any improvements have been made. The composite supply chain efficiency model can also identify areas of deficiencies along the supply chain. The composite supply chain efficiency model is an efficient and inexpensive model that can be applied to determine if Gabonese supply chains are operating efficiently or not. The results obtained from the compound supply chain efficiency model can help companies and entire supply chains identify areas to focus on to ameliorate their efficiency levels and in so doing make them competitive.

The objective of this chapter is to discuss the concept and practices of cyber supply chains (CSC) in the manufacturing context. Technological advancements are drastically transforming the manufacturing industry, which in turn drives the need for a digitally integrated supply chain. While CSC has its share of benefits, it is also vulnerable to cyber threats. In order to mitigate the risks, comprehensive security measures must be undertaken in the areas of technology, organization, governance, and culture, and they must be integrated into the company's established risk management processes. To ensure a resilient CSC, all members of the supply chain network must play a role to protect their respective systems from potential breach.
