The objective of the article is to evaluate the role of laws and regulations on food safety in the implementation of food safety laws in Vietnam. Food safety regulations through business orientation, supply chain dynamic capabilities, and supply chain integration aim to ensure food safety and improve firm performance in Vietnam. Research data analysis is based on 389 food firms and the data are analyzed through Smart PLS 3.3.0 software. The results show the important role of food safety law in the implementation of food safety assurance of food enterprises. At the same time, supply chain dynamics and supply chain integration are also factors that have a statistically significant positive impact on the food safety performance of food enterprises in Vietnam.

PurposeThis research seeks to identify the motivations, means and outcomes of supply chain integration (SCI) among firms in the middle market (i.e. those with annual revenues between US$10m and US$1bn). These firms often interface with larger, more powerful firms in the supply chain – both suppliers and customers. Understanding how these firms are challenged and benefit from integrative mechanisms in supply chain relations can lead to better outcomes more often.Design/methodology/approachThe research utilizes an online focus group methodology featuring 39 participants. The participants were able to interact in written form with a professional moderator, as well as each other, over the course of three days.FindingsThe research presents evidence that firms in the middle market adopt SCI as a response to pressure from customers and suppliers. These firms also view technology as a primary means of achieving integration. Despite their disadvantageous size position relative to larger customers and suppliers, firms in the middle market achieved positive outcomes from integration.Research limitations/implicationsBecause of the specific context of middle-market firms, this research may lack generalizability. However, providing contextualization regarding firm size contributes specificity to the large number of studies detailing the challenges and benefits of SCI.Practical implicationsManagers of firms in the middle market should find value in this study as it explicates the possible benefits their firms may realize through integration with customers and suppliers. Moreover, this research outlines several of the possible means through which integration can be achieved. Further, managers in smaller and larger firms can better understand the motives and needs of middle-market companies with which they interact.Originality/valueDespite voluminous literature on SCI, this paper provides context-specific findings by isolating the implications of SCI to firms in the middle market.

This research aims to examine the effect of relational capital to competitive advantage through supply chain integration. Research method in this study was explanatory research with a quantitative approach. This Research method used explanatory research with a quantitative approach. The object of this research was in four districts of East Java at Nganjuk, Kediri, Malang and Probolinggo which are centers of onion production that have the similar environmental conditions. The sampling method in this study used multistage proportional random sampling. There were 200 respondents as a sample of this research. Data analysis usedpath analysis method by software SPSS 23. The results showed that the relational capital has a positive but not significant effect on the supply chain integration and relational capital has a positive and significant effect on the competitive advantage

The objective of this study is to develop and test a framework for the role that supply chain strategy (SCS) and supply chain integration have in a firm’s financial performance and to increase the understanding of the role that these factors play in supply chain design. Structural equation modeling was used to test these relationships based on data obtained from small and medium exporting enterprises in Peru. This study responds to a gap in understanding the role of supply chains in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and how firms in Latin America, especially in Peru, apply supply chain concepts. Findings indicate that companies should prioritize their integration efforts depending on the type of supply chain strategy. Likewise, results show that customer integration is directly related to a firm’s financial performance. This study responds to the need to understand the development of supply chain strategies and the generation of competitive advantage in Peruvian export-manufacturing SMEs.
