E-commerce can enhance its acceptance among users through fostering online trust, which is vital for decision-making process. The perception and computation of trust is crucial for vendors and users for the success of e-commerce. The calculation and measurement of trust antecedent involves complex aspect such as presence of security controls and familiarity within the website. Most companies are acquiring ‘security technology’ because everybody else is doing the same, but not because there has been a proper assessment of its association with trust. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of trust antecedents such as security, and familiarity when they are used collectively to do online transactions. Trust, in general, is an important factor in conducting e-transaction, which revolve around uncertainty and ambiguity. The Fuzzy logic approach provides a means for coping with this uncertainty and vagueness that are present in e-commerce. Therefore, the fuzzy logic approach is been deployed to develop scales to measure the effects of users’ familiarity and perception of security in an online business-to-consumer (B2C) context. This research provides guidelines to vendors on how they could ascertain the trust level of their business and ways of mitigate the negative impact on the trust level.

Determination of poor families in the poverty database is still less than perfect. There is still no multi criteria decision making (MCDM) technique in the grouping of poor families, making the results of the criteria in grouping poor families still far from expectations. So, this article discusses the use of the multi criteria decision making (MCDM) technique for grouping poor families in the poverty database in the Malang district. Fuzzy logic is one technique of MCDM which is commonly used for affirmation of decisions. In a random sampling of 35 families taken from the Malang District poverty database, the classification that was originally obtained was only obtained by 2 (two) classifications of poor families, namely: very poor families and poor families. But after it was calculated using the Fuzzy Logic method, it was found 3 (three) classifications of poor families, namely very poor families, poor families, and almost poor families. The magnitude of the distribution of the poor family classification is: 17 (seventeen) very poor families which previously were 14 (fourteen), 17 (seventeen) families were categorized as poor families that were previously 21 (twenty one), and 1 (one) family in the category of near-poor families that were not previously found. With these results, it can be concluded that the Fuzzy Logic method can and is able to provide better and more diverse results in determining poor families in the Malang District poverty database.

The Best Student Award is one of the incentives initiated by an institution to identify potential students who are not only excellent academically, but also possess great leadership skills. Moreover, these skills may also be enhanced which subsequently contribute to the future of society. Nonetheless, one of the greatest challenges faced by evaluators in the selection process include uncertainty and imprecise data in measuring the students’ leadership competencies. Thus, this paper proposes the development of Initiative-Systematic Performance Evaluation (I-SPE) as an initiative tool to measure students’ competencies based on Fuzzy Logic Approach. The study focuses on the selection of the best student based on data collected from a leadership programme – Program Kepimpinan Pewaris Bangsa  (PKPB) conducted at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Sarawak, Mukah Campus. In the current practice, tie and time-consuming challenges due to the subjectivity and complexity of measurement criteria are involved. Therefore, I-SPE will assist to provide an improved decision-making solution to evaluators during the evaluation process. Fuzzy logic tools used to develop I-SPE allow the experts to introduce any uncertainty and subjectivity into the evaluation system. The development of fuzzy rules in this model is based on five selected attributes, which include leadership, communication, teamwork, discipline and CGPA. Results obtained indicate that the proposed model I-SPE is able to improve decision-making efficiency that would lead to fairness in selecting the best candidate as compared to the conventional method. Keywords: Evaluation, Fuzzy logic, Initiative, Leadership, Student’s Award

In this paper, an intelligent approach is presented to measure customers’ loyalty to a specific product and assist new customers regarding a product’s key features. Our approach uses an aggregated sentiment score of a set of reviews in a dataset and then uses a fuzzy logic model to measure customer’s loyalty to a product. Our approach uses a novel idea of measuring customer’s loyalty to a product and can assist a new customer to take a decision about a particular product considering its various features and reviews of previous customers. In this study, we use a large sized data set of online reviews of customers from Amazon.com to test the performance of the customer’s reviews. The proposed approach pre-processes the input text via tokenization, Lemmatization and removal of stop words and then applies fuzzy logic approach to take decisions. To find similarity and relevance to a topic, various libraries and API are used in this work such as SentiWordNet, Stanford Core NLP, etc. The approach utilized focuses on identifying polarity of the reviews that may be positive, negative and neutral. To find customer’s loyalty and help in decision making, the fuzzy logic approach is applied using a set of membership functions and rule-based system of fuzzy sets that classify data in various types of loyalty. The implementation of the approach provides high accuracy of 94% of correct loyalty to the e-commerce products that outperforms the previous approaches.

Purpose It is significant to assess the societal trust toward the new advancements in multi-hazard early warnings (MHEW) with the focus on disaster risk reduction (DRR). Based on this, the purpose of this paper is to examine the extent of societal trust behavior along with the parameters such as mode of communication and institutions of issuing early warnings (EWs). Design/methodology/approach A field questionnaire survey was conducted to identify the extent of societal trust. This was conducted in ten selected Grama Niladari divisions in Sri Lanka based on a developed hazard matrix. The fuzzy logic approach was applied to examine the trust level of collected 323 responses obtained through this. The analysis was done based on the responses on mobile-based platforms in EW and the credibility level of the warnings received through different institutions. Findings The analyzed survey responses indicated that society has a higher extent of trust toward the EWs disseminated through mobile-based platforms. Moreover, these represent a strong positive correlation among the societal trust level and the level of importance of EW dissemination through mobile-based platforms. Further, in terms of trusted stakeholders in issuing EW alerts, Disaster Management Center, Sri Lanka Police and Media ranked the highest in the Sri Lankan context. Overall, findings were visually mapped through the causal loop diagrams (CLDs). Practical implications In enhancing the effectiveness of the existing MHEW mechanism, the policy implications could be done, based on the results obtained from this research study. These could be altered with the implementation of DRR strategies with a community focus. Originality/value The fuzzy logic approach was used in the determination of the societal decision-making on the extent of trust level. Fuzzy triangulation is mainly applied in the interpretation of the results. Further, overall parameters that determine the community trust on MHEW are represented through CLDs through system dynamics application.
