Teaching and learning mathematics at university level is increasingly being supported by Learning Management Systems. In this chapter, we report from the e-learning initiative, DELTA, and in doing so we aim to describe how formulas, drawings, and other mathematical representations influence student communication. We describe a practice that combines handwriting and discussion forums facilitated by a Learning Management System (LMS). We have experienced lack of student activity in the discussion forums and introducing a new LMS (Moodle) with improved formula editor capabilities into the environment, does not seem to considerably improve the situation, whereas a scanner-based handwritten communication seems to successfully support the assignment communication between the students and the teacher.

A Learning Management System (LMS) offers a set of tools for e-learning delivery and management. For institutions offering online or blended courses, an LMS has a profound impact on teaching and learning because it is the main technology used in higher education e-learning courses. This chapter discusses major trends, issues, and challenges with the LMS in the context of online instruction for higher education. The chapter ends with a discussion of new trends with LMSs.

Abstract Traditional Learning Management Systems are installed on a single server where learning materials and user data are kept. To increase its performance, the Learning Management System can be installed on multiple servers; learning materials and user data could be distributed across these servers obtaining a Distributed Learning Management System. In this paper is proposed the prototype of a recommendation system based on association rules for Distributed Learning Management System. Information from LMS databases is analyzed using distributed data mining algorithms in order to extract the association rules. Then the extracted rules are used as inference rules to provide personalized recommendations. The quality of provided recommendations is improved because the rules used to make the inferences are more accurate, since these rules aggregate knowledge from all e-Learning systems included in Distributed Learning Management System.

The education information delivery system at the MA Alwutsqo school is still being carried out as usual even though the pandemic outbreak in Indonesia is still not over. Because the school does not have a system to support distance learning. By implementing health protocols and teaching and learning time events, students often do not get an understanding of the material presented by the teacher. Learning Management System (LMS) is one of the systems needed by the school. Therefore, the authors designed a website-based E-learning application system with the aim of helping the learning and teaching process at MA Alwutsqo Depok City. The design of this information system uses waterfalls and system development is carried out using the Agile method. The result is that students can download the material that has been delivered and can do the exercises given by the teacher without recommendations by time and space.Keywords:E-learning, Webite, Metode Waterfall, Metode Agile, Learning Management System (LMS).

Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) vision is to become a university with international repute. The Strategic Plan Document 2001- 2010 includes a goal for the university to be fully wired through ICT in enhancing research, extension work, professional service, strengthening teaching and learning environment and enhancing the culture of ICT in supporting teaching and learning. Two strategies were drawn; namely (i) implement the use of one learning management system (LMS) and (ii) enhance competency of academic staff in using the LMS. It has been a practice that each faculty decides on a platform for implementing e-Learning. However, the use of various LMSs had created difficulties in the sharing of integrated database, continuous monitoring of the effectiveness of the e-Learning system, and depository of e-Learning resources in the UPM’s knowledge repository. This paper reports on UPM’s experience in adapting the use of LMS from the early 1990s until today.

In order to increase the utilization of learning resources and produce interchangeable components, a novel communication model is proposed. The model utilizes SCORM to standardize the learning contents and learning management systems and specify the behaviors of the learning contents independent of the learning management system used. At the same time, the model utilizes SOAP to increase interoperability within the wide range of programs and environments. By doing this, different learning groupwares and learning management systems can be integrated.

Coronavirus is a widespread dangerous disease in recent months, originated in China but with a great impact at the global level. As a result, the education process is choked by shut down of college & universities and maintaining social distancing for reducing the outbreak from community transmission. The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of Learning Management System (LMS) in higher education to support teaching and learning in this ‘new normal’ by providing a stand-alone platform for online & distance learning. LMS is a software application for administering, documenting, tracking, reporting, automating, and delivering educational, training, or learning and development programmes; which originated directly from the concept of e-learning. With the detailed conceptual approach of LMS, the study also associates with the practical implementation of Blackboard LMS in Chandigarh University. Additionally, the study also tastes a comparative analysis between Blackboard, Canvas & Moodle LMS.

 Actualmente existen gran variedad de Sistemas de Gestión de Aprendizaje - Learning Management System (LMS) al servicio de todos los niveles educativos y las áreas académicas. Esta diversidad origina un problema de semántica en el conocimiento haciéndolo disperso e inexacto debido a que cada LMS maneja sus propios formatos, arquitecturas y especificaciones. Esto dificulta la interoperabilidad de la información entre diferentes plataformas afectando principalmente a los estudiantes. En el artículo se describe la propuesta de un modelo de interoperabilidad semántica para resolver las necesidades de intercambio de información caracterizadas de los LMS, a partir de las propuestas existentes de solución en el campo de las especificaciones de e-learning, los servicios Web y las ontologías en general.

In the Nigerian system of education, there is need for introducing modern technology of learning mathematics so as to ease the learning of mathematics and allow students to learn anywhere. In other to suit the features globalization, Edmodo, which is one of the learning management system packages, was considered in this study. In Edmodo class, normal teaching processes can be carried out such as teaching, immediate response from students, classwork and assignment, marking and grading, while both students and parents have access to the score of the students. In this study, emphasis is being placed on integration, benefits, and how to use Edmodo in teaching and learning of mathematics. The study concluded that the use of different technological packages in teaching will extend learning of mathematics from the four walls of the classroom to learning outside the classroom, which allows students to learn anywhere and at any time.

This chapter deals with several details related to e-learning represented in the concept of learning management systems, types of learning management systems in terms of learning management system and course management system, learning and content. The authors will clarify the importance of e-learning management systems in the educational process and features of e-learning management systems. In addition, the authors will explain the steps chosen for e-learning management systems with inference on some examples of e-learning management systems. At the end of the chapter, they will talk about learning management systems in Arab universities in the education process.
