Digitalization as a Key Issue of the Circular Economy to Promote Sustainability

Digitalization is a topic of circular economy in the context of the ReSolve framework. The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the context of social organizations can provide added value in order to foster integrative solutions. The aim of this chapter is aligned with the literature about ICT, circular economy, and sustainability to present the design of a prototype that fits homeless person integration strategies and addresses concerns in the various dimensions of sustainability supported by ICT. The authors use the design science research methodology in order to communicate the prototype results for the integration of homeless people. The prototype will be developed under the assumption of use in an organizational context by a multidisciplinary team, aiming to allow the cooperation of the various entities involved. This is a contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The main results of this research suggest how to develop, in partnership with local organizations, solutions to solve social problems supported by a sustainable perspective.

The purpose of the chapter is to focus on the contribution of ICT to implement a sustainability policy in the organizations, in the context of the sustainable development goals to improve cooperation and promote development. In this context, the principles of the Karlskrona Manifesto are applied to the development of software systems. The methodology focused on the literature review of the domain and on a case study, in order to analyze the impact of ICT as an engine of sustainability in organizations. The main conclusions focus on the analysis of the impact of established practices in organizations to design and develop sustainable software systems. The results point to a greater consciousness of the potential effects of software systems on sustainability, which will improve management practices, reducing the quantity of material to be recycled, and aligning organizational strategies with Green IT.

Social organizations are faced with financial problems, but also in the areas of Information Systems and Information and Communication Technologies given their support for activities in providing services to citizens. The article presents the problem in the field of the design of a multidisciplinary prototype and information aggregator to support the management of the provision of services of a Social Organization. The research methodology adopted is Design Science Research, given the specificity of the problem. Requirements models, data models, system architecture, and finally the prototype are presented. The proposed prototype aims to contribute to the reduction of regional inequalities, enhancing sustainability in the environmental, social, and human fields, as well as the inclusion of information that optimizes the reuse of non-perishable goods.

Social Engineering, in view of the current dependence of information systems and information and communication technologies organizations, is of great interest in creating conditions, in order to reduce the threats and vulnerabilities, to which organizations are exposed. Thus, Social Engineering is considered to have emerged as a serious threat in virtual communities and is an effective way of attacking information systems, by creating conditions in order to jeopardize business continuity. The article presents the problem in the field of Information Security, emphasizing concerns in the field of Social Engineering in view of the vulnerabilities to which the generality of organizations is exposed. The research methodology adopted is Design Science Research, given the specificity of the problem. The main results are the literature review in the field of Social Engineering, with special emphasis on attack models and a reflection of the real-world professional experience.

Logistic barter is a normal commodity exchange among producers where one thing is exchanged to another without monetary pay on the basis of globally integrated trade procedure. The approach of barter logistics is not abandon money, however ignores it among producers.  Logistics has touched and touches such heights, while the requirement for a "universal equivalent of goods" among producers could simply cease to exist [1]. A powerful combination of logistics and e-commerce is expected to lead to significant changes in the overall business landscape. E-commerce will provide an opportunity for many companies to make the necessary communications and conclude transactions with each other, and logistics will provide an opportunity to more effectively use this information to manage activities in their business. Instead of a two-way relationship between the supplier and the customer, the business will increasingly be based on networks of supply chains, made up of groups of suppliers and customer groups [2]. E-commerce, e-sourcing, e-markets are better to be united under the auspices of logistics barter into an e-integrator, which will be the serving element of the LBP-provider. An e-integrator is an integrator of information and communication technologies for supply chains of logistics barter, in the form of electronic means, taking into account a closing link, e-commerce, and the reverse distribution of added value. The paper describes the new LBP-providers which are not a servicing element of the economy, but become operators of an alternative economy themselves. We have also considered the basics for the mathematical concept of a future LBP (logistic barter) operator.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are transforming every area of economic and social life all around the world. New types of jobs different from the traditional ones are created rapidly. The demand for highly skilled staff who uses technology effectively has become a requirement for success of companies and the growing industry.   However, the number of IT graduates is not keeping up with the current demand. In addition, companies have little or no training programs to develop ICT skills. Initiatives from the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants to support transnational projects for Youth Employment including European Digital Bootcamps (EDIBO) contribute to increase the job opportunities for young people outside of the labour market. In this way the Sustainable Development Goal 8 which aims to “promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all” could be fulfilled.   Nowadays, EDIBO is developing different training labs in order to achieve a success model of all processes involved with the organization, execution and evaluation. The goal of this document is to allow a rapid replication of the intensive ICT training among the partners of the project as well to the social innovation community in general.

This paper provides an overview of the current and emerging issues in learning technology research, concentrating on structural issues such as infrastructure, policy and organizational context. It updates the vision of technology outlined by Squires' (1999) concept of peripatetic electronic teachers (PETs) where Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) provide an enabling medium to allow teachers to act as freelance agents in a virtual world and reflects to what extent this vision has been realized The paper begins with a survey of some of the key areas of ICT development and provides a contextualizing framework for the area in terms of external agendas and policy drivers. It then focuses upon learning technology developments which have occurred in the last five years in the UK and offers a number of alternative taxonomies to describe this. Our paper aims at assessing the sustainable development of the universities in the 21st century that is market by globalization, high penetration of information and communication technologies as well as global environmental changes. The paper stresses that the higher education is undergoing profound changes in its role and its position in the society and should focus its attention to the environmental challenges and the fight again the global warming. Higher education is ripe for reforms that are not intended to disrupt its main goals and its very essence but that might help it to modernize its approaches to achieving the up-to-date objectives that would maximize its contribution to the development of the society. Therefore, it appears that governments and the civil society alike should put more effort into embedding the sustainable development principles as well as sustainable development goals (SDG) into the educational curricular of the universities regardless to their geographical location.
