Stress and Strain Distribution in the Upsetting Process

Numerical simulation of metal flow behaviour was studied using DeformTM3D software. The simulation process was done on X20 steel taken from the software database at 1073-1273K temperature, 10mm/s die speed, and 67% height reduction. From the simulation results, forging load, damage, and stress/strain distributions were obtained. The results show that the forging load increased with a decrease in temperature or decreased with an increase in temperature. The maximum damage values increased as the temperature increased. The obtained maximum damage values were 0.42 (1073K), 0.43 (1173K), and 0.45 (1273K). The damage distribution was inhomogeneous in the deformed cylinder. The stress/strain distributions were inhomogeneous in the deformed cylinder. The location of the maximum strain was at the centre of the deformed cylinder while the maximum stress occurred at the die-cylinder contact surfaces. The study showed that flow stress behaviour can be predicted using finite element method. This shows the feasibility of applying the finite element analysis to analyse the forging process.

This article established 3D FE model of dual-radius arc finishing groove and tangent expansion angle finishing groove using ANSYS / LS-DYNA software for Wuhan Iron and Steel plant Ф16 hot continuous bar, and analyzed metal flow pattern, stress and strain distribution of two types finishing grooves. The results show that surface stress and strain distribution of dual-radius arc finishing groove have better uniform than them of tangent expansion angle finishing groove, and dual-radius arc finishing groove ensures the stability of the rolled piece in finishing groove, improve the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of rolled finishing product.

To analyse the road-header rack and pinion by using the finite element analysis software COSMOS/WORKS. Compared to the traditional analytic calculation and numerical analysis method, it is more intuitively get 28 ° pressure angle spur gear rack meshing stress and strain distribution, which can rack and pinion improvements designed to provide scientific reference.

The feasibility of forging of AL-1050 alloy of cylindrical heatsink under warm conditions is demonstrated in the present work. The stress-strain curves and friction factor play an important role in the cylindrical heatsink forging. The purpose of forging lubrication is to reduce friction between blank and die, and to decrease resistance of metal flow to die. The stress-strain curves at different temperatures are obtained by compressing tests. The friction factor between 1050 aluminum alloy and die material are determined at different temperatures by ring compression tests with graphite lubricants. The compressing and ring compressing tests are carried out by using the computerized screw universal testing machine. The finite element method is used to investigate the forming characters of the forging process. To verify the prediction of FEM simulation in the cylindrical heatsink forging process, the experimental parameters such as stress-strain curves and fiction factor, are as the input data during analysis. Maximum forging load and effective stress distribution are determined of the heatsink forging, using the finite element analysis. Finally, the cylindrical heatsink parts are formed by the forging machine under the conditions using finite element analysis.

This study applies the finite element method (FEM) to predict maximum forging load and effective strain in internal helical gear forging. Maximum forging load and effective strain are determined for different process parameters, such as modules, number of teeth, and die temperature of the internal helical gear forging, using the FEM. Finally, the prediction of the power requirement for the internal helical gear warm forging is determined. Therefore, the maximum forming force and strain distribution will be prediction for the different parameters of helical gear worm forging.

With the ongoing development of product process, there is a growing demand on micro products. Though the macro-drawing process has been well-developed, the design concepts may not be directly applicable to the micro-drawing due to the size effect occurred in the micro-forming processes. In the present study, experiments were conducted first to establish the stress-strain curves, r-values and work hardening exponents of 304 stainless steel sheets with different grain sizes. The experiment results reveal that the stress-strain and r-value become smaller and the work hardening exponent increases for larger grain sizes. The difference between stress-strain curves in various directions of 0°, 45° and 90°, respectively, is significant when the grain size increases. The stamping of a vibration motor shell of cell phone, which bears a circular cylindrical shape, was also examined in the present study. The finite element simulations were performed to evaluate the formability of the multi-stage drawing process with initial die design. The forming characteristics were identified and an optimum die design was then developed with the use of the finite element analysis. The stamping process with multi-stage tooling design based on the finite element analysis was implemented and the actual stamping experiments were conducted to verify finite element analysis. The experimental results confirm the validity of the modified tooling design and the efficiency of the finite element analysis.

EPS module is connected like roy brick to form a hollow wall, then grouting the without vibrate concrete to form the thermal-insulating shear wall. Based on the experiment data, analyzed the aseismatic behavior of EPS module shear wall under horizontal cyclic loads by ANSYS software. Compared EPS module shear wall with the traditional shear wall on crack status, stress and strain distribution, rigidity, and attenuation coefficients of rigidity. Compared the experiment data with the finite element analysis result by ANSYS, discussed the method of analyzing this new plate material by finite element analysis, which can be basis for experiment and analysis on this material.

An extensive finite element analysis of a vehicle wheel subject to the conjoint influence of inflation pressure and radial load (vehicle load) is reported in this paper. The commonly used design considerations in an automotive wheel are presented and discussed. A method for determining the load(s) transmitted from the vehicle to the wheel is detailed and the intrinsic influence of inflation pressure on wheel performance is discussed. The finite element results are compared with experimental measurements of strain obtained using strain gauges. The salient advantage of the finite element analysis as an attractive and cost-effective approach to the design and analysis of vehicle wheels is elaborated.
