Theorizing Virtuality in Enterprise Social Systems

This chapter has built on research on today's modern organizations to lay the foundations for a comprehensive and systematic theorization of enterprise social systems. Theorizing virtuality marks a fundamental transformation in space-time parameters in communications. This is especially so in the context of rapid current advancements in IT such as cloud computing, as well as numerous other technological fronts. Current IT trends show that increased spatio-temporal plasticity heightens the effectiveness and the efficiency of modern enterprise social systems. In particular, subject-oriented asynchronous communications experience greater inferred plasticity and event-oriented synchronous communications experience greater referred plasticity. Finally, enterprise social systems vary in their degree of virtuality based on the perspective of the relevant stakeholder group considered.

Forest resources management requires a variety of information related to social systems and to land and its supported resources and their dynamics (land cover, forest stocking, and growth). Such information is, by nature, spatio-temporal and scale dependent and its quality relay on costs for obtaining it. Geosciences and forest geomatics offer valuable methods for ensuring a good compromise between the quality of required information and its costs. This chapter will review and discuss the contribution of geoscience to forest and land inventory. After presentation of information needed and their acquisition methods, through traditional forest inventory, the chapter will focus on technologies aiming at forest resources characterization and assessment such as aerial photogrammetry, satellite imagery, LiDAR data.

Abstract Soccer analytics is attracting increasing interest in academia and industry, thanks to the availability of sensing technologies that provide high-fidelity data streams for every match. Unfortunately, these detailed data are owned by specialized companies and hence are rarely publicly available for scientific research. To fill this gap, this paper describes the largest open collection of soccer-logs ever released, containing all the spatio-temporal events (passes, shots, fouls, etc.) that occured during each match for an entire season of seven prominent soccer competitions. Each match event contains information about its position, time, outcome, player and characteristics. The nature of team sports like soccer, halfway between the abstraction of a game and the reality of complex social systems, combined with the unique size and composition of this dataset, provide an ideal ground for tackling a wide range of data science problems, including the measurement and evaluation of performance, both at individual and at collective level, and the determinants of success and failure.

In Cloud computing the user requests are passaged to data centers (DCs) to accommodate resources. It is essential to select the suitable DCs as per the user requests so that other requests should not be penalized in terms of time and cost. The searching strategies consider the execution time rather than the related penalties while searching DCs. In this work, we discuss Penalty Elimination-based DC Allocation (PE-DCA) using Guided Local Search (GLS) mechanism to locate suitable DCs with reduced cost, response time, and processing time. The PE-DCA addresses, computes, and eliminates the penalties involved in the cost and time through iterative technique using the defined objective and guide functions. The PE-DCA is implemented using CloudAnalyst with various configurations of user requests and DCs. We examine the PE-DCA and the execution after-effects of various costs and time parameters to eliminate the penalties and observe that the proposed mechanism performs best.

Today Cloud computing is altering the way industries and enterprises do their businesses in that with passion scalable and virtualized assets are provided as a service over the Internet. This new model creates a brand new chance for enterprises. In this paper, some of the essential features of effective methodologies for cloud computing in the modern enterprise are briefly discussed with regard to the end-users, enterprises that use the cloud as a platform, and cloud providers themselves. Cloud Computing is capable as one of the main enablers for the all new manufacturing industry, it can transform the usual manufacturing business model, help it to align product innovation with business strategy, and create intelligent factory networks that support successful collaboration. Cloud computing has been in some of the major key areas of manufacturing industries such as IT, pay-as-you-go business models, productions calling up and down per require, and elasticity in deploying and customizing solutions. Clients can use cloud services according to their requirements. Cloud users can request services ranging from product design, manufacturing, testing, management, and all others tags of a product life cycle. Cloud Managed service provider (CMSP) is a company that distantly manages a customer's IT communications and/or end-user systems, typically on a proactive basis and under a subscription model.


Developments in Cloud Computing has opened up new avenues for cutting – edge technology applications. It is the conventional technology that deploys the applications and services on internet servers instead of traditional servers. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) allows access to a variety of applications on the cloud commonly known as Multi-scale applications. Social and Professional media like Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, ResearchGate etc. have migrated to cloud. The terms scale and scalability in cloud environment has been used in different contexts. The applications can be scaled up or down based on the network traffic scenario, and has thus opened up a Pandora’s Box in new research and development of multi–scale cloud based applications. This conceptual paper attempts to review literature across various domains where the term multi-scale, scaling, cloud based application have been used and arrive at a reasonable, crisp, concise yet accurate definition of the term multi – scale and multi–scale cloud application. The term “Multi – Scale” is used in various fields referring to multiple scales applied to arrive at solutions to spatio-temporal problems. This conceptual paper attempts to associate a formal definition to the term “multi-scale cloud application” in the cloud computing world. The proposed definition of the said term is extremely relevant in the context of multi–scale applications developed in recent times.
