HEI Teacher Perceptions of Entrepreneurship Education

Teachers play a key role in implementing entrepreneurship education; however, little attention has been paid to teachers' perceptions of entrepreneurship education and factors affecting these perceptions. The objective of this chapter is to narrow this research gap by investigating the impact of organizational strategy and school leadership on a teacher's perceptions of entrepreneurship in teaching. This chapter explores the impact of a teacher's own entrepreneurial background and entrepreneurship training on these perceptions. The data consist of 1,119 answers from Finnish higher education institute (HEI) teachers. Findings show that managerial practices in the HEI in supporting entrepreneurship education have a positive impact on the teachers' perceptions. Additionally, a teacher's entrepreneurial background and entrepreneurship training play a role in shaping the teacher's perceptions of the importance of entrepreneurship education. Universities can become more entrepreneurial by developing management practices that support the implementation of entrepreneurship education.

Conservation practices such as sustainable soil management (SSM) and no-tillage may increase production and productivity, which may help reduce food insecurity in household levels. Koirala et al. (2014) showed that the SSM practices have a high positive impact on food security and income in Ramechhap, Nepal. However, the impact of the SSM practices on food security and income were highly overestimated. Further, they did not explain how the impact of other factors on household food security and income are held constant to evaluate the impact of the SSM practices. This paper argues that the estimate of the impact of SSM practices on food security by Koirala et al. (2014) is highly upward biased due to the same unobserved factors affecting participation on the SSM practices and food security. This study shows an alternative method: an endogenous treatment effects model, which correctly estimates the impact of the SSM practices on food security. In Ethiopia, the practice of land management started three decades ago in order to address the problem of land degradation and to further boost agricultural production. However, the impact of land management practices in curbing land degradation problems and improving the productivity of the agricultural sector is insignificant. Various empirical works have previously identified the determinants of the adoption rate of land management practices. However, the sustainability of land management practices after adoption, and the various factors that control the sustainability of implemented land management practices, are not well addressed. This study analyzed the factors affecting the sustainability of land management practices after implementation in Mecha Woreda, northwestern Ethiopia. The study used 378 sample respondents, selected by a systematic random sampling technique. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were qualitatively and concurrently analyzed with the quantitative data. The sustained supply of fodder from the implemented land management practices, as well as improved cattle breed, increases the sustainability of the implemented land management practices. While lack of agreement in the community, lack of enforcing community bylaws, open cattle grazing, lack of benefits of implemented land management practices, acting as barrier for farming practices, poor participation of household heads during planning and decision-making processes, as well as the lack of short-term benefits, reduce the sustainability of the implemented land management practices. Thus, it is better to allow for the full participation of household heads in planning and decision-making processes to bring practical and visible results in land management practices. In addition, recognizing short-term benefits to compensate the land lost in constructing land management structures must be the strategy in land management practices. Finally, reducing the number of cattle and practicing stall feeding is helpful both for the sustainability of land management practices and the productivity of cattle. In line with this, fast-growing fodder grass species have to be introduced for household heads to grow on land management structures and communal grazing fields for stall feeding.

The majority of studies that analyze the impact of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial attitudes, intentions, and venture activities report positive influences. However, several scholars have recently cast doubts about research methods and the generalizability of entrepreneurship education impact studies. In this study, we conducted a systematic literature review of the methods used in entrepreneurship education impact studies. Our results uncover significant methodological deficiencies and question the overwhelmingly positive impact of entrepreneurship education. Based on this evidence, we propose a series of recommendations to improve the reliability and validity of entrepreneurship education impact studies and we outline promising topics which are currently under-researched.

The success of a module at a university of technology is measured by student performance. At the Durban University of Technology in the Department of Management Accounting, students in their second year of study struggle with conceptualising content in Cost Accounting two which affects their performance. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors which may impact on the performance of Cost Accounting two students and to determine if these factors have a significant association with a student’s performance in Cost Accounting two. Many studies have identified various factors which may influence students’ academic performance. For the purpose of this study, five factors that may affect student performance were identified and examined. The independent variables or factors identified were attendance, age, gender, grade 12 results and language. The dependent variable for this study was performance (in Cost Accounting two). In order to measure the performance of students included in the study, the percentage achieved in Cost Accounting two for the semester was used. Although studies have been conducted on student performance at universities across South Africa and around the world, limited studies were conducted on the performance of Cost Accounting two students within South Africa. The study aimed to identify the factors that affect the performance of Cost and Management Accounting students at a university of technology and the impact of those factors on performance. The study found that only student attendance has a positive impact on student performance in Cost Accounting two. The findings of this study may be useful to the Department of Management Accounting at the DUT and other universities of technology. It is hoped that the current study will be useful to other teachers of cost and management accounting at universities on which factors influence the academic achievement of students.

<p><b>In today’s extremely competitive retail marketplace environment, developing and managing profitable private label offerings has become significant for most retailing companies. The purpose of this paper is to understand the influence of e-tailer reputation, product manufacturing country favourability, and online consumer rating on the purchase likelihood of e-tailer private labels. We find that product online consumer ratings positively impact the purchase intention of the private labels. E-tailer reputation has shown a positive impact on the future purchase intentions whereas, country favourability’s effect is found at the time of actual purchase of e-tailer private labels. Being the first research to study the impact of country favourability, e-tailer reputation on e-tailer private labels, this paper offers some insights to the e-tailers. </b></p>

 Purpose: Entrepreneurship education as an influencer of graduate entrepreneurial intention is gaining massive attention amongst practitioners, policy makers and academics across the globe. The proliferation of entrepreneurship courses in universities around the world is evident of this wide acceptance of entrepreneurship education as a strategy for graduate entrepreneurship. The purpose of this research paper is to ascertain the impact entrepreneurship education has on students’ entrepreneurial career intentions.Methodology: The article includes a review of literature in entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention to gain background knowledge. This research is a qualitative, interpretive phenomenological study and relies on narrative as a means of knowing, and as a form of communication. The scope of the study is year one students at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil & Gas Ekowe in the departments of Computer Science, Science Laboratory Technology and Statistics. The questionnaire was designed in a semi-structured way and distributed to students to return after 7 days to allow for proper articulation of narratives.Findings: A total of 42 students participated in the interview and 42 returned. 28.57% representing 12 students showed intention to start a business, 40.48% (17 students) desire to get a job after graduation while 13 students (30.95%) are unsure what they want to do after graduation. The results indicate that entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on students’ entrepreneurial career intention but other than EE, it was also revealed from participants’ narratives that age, prior experience and parents’ status have positive influence on graduate entrepreneurial decisions.Implication of Findings: Findings will aid curriculum designers and educational policy makers to scrutinize and re-examine EE programmes and how they are taught to enhance practice.Originality: Narratives and storytelling methods are not the common methods adopted in entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention research. More research should be carried out using this method to validate results from this approach.

ABSTRACT The Securities and Exchange Commission's 2009 enhanced proxy disclosure requirements and the updated Committee of Sponsoring Organizations' (COSO) Internal Control Framework have caused organizations to increase their focus on risk management and consider the impact of information technology (IT) in enterprise risk management. Our study examines whether board involvement, board expertise, and top management's risk culture affect the maturity of IT risk management practices (maturity) in firms. We find that board involvement positively influences maturity while top managers' risk-taking behavior is associated with lower maturity. Even though board expertise influences maturity, board involvement is more important in explaining maturity. Maturity is higher in firms where risk oversight lies with a board-level, rather than a management, committee. However, the maturity of ITRM practices does not differ among firms whether risk oversight lies with the overall board, or any other board committee. The findings contribute to an under-researched area in IT governance.

The study aims at measuring the impact of human resource management practices on creativity and innovation with the presence of competencies as an intermediary variable. The study highlights the importance of human resource management practices for UAE banks and explores the role of human resource management practices in enhancing the creativity and innovation of employees. To achieve this goal, six UAE banks were selected as a study area. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to a random sample of 150 respondents. The analytical, descriptive method was used for analysis. Data analysis and testing were carried out using SPSS.Some of the most important outcomes of this study are: Human resource management practices such as compensation and benefits, employment, empowerment and human resources planning have a positive impact on innovation. Compensation, benefits, employment, training and development, also have a positive effect on creativity. Human resource management practices have a positive impact on training. The study recommends that giving the UAE banks the priority of human resource management practices is of great importance in their dimensions according to the scale of human resource management practices that are interested in achieving innovation and creativity for employees within the banks. The further studies are suggested related to human resources management practices and creativity and innovation because of their impact on achieving competitive advantage.

AbstractAlthough litter prevention has environmental, social and economic benefits, cigarette butts are the most littered item on earth. While there has been vast research into the relationship between different factors affecting consumer behaviour, further research is needed to examine the antecedents of consumer sustainable behaviour. The aim of this study is to test the impact of feared self and landfill awareness on the sustainable behaviour of consumers using a structural equation modelling approach. Primary data of consumers are used to validate the hypothesised model. The findings highlight that feared self has a positive impact on the sustainable behaviour of consumers, while feared-self congruency and landfill awareness do not affect consumer sustainable behaviour. As for the implications, the results can support academics and strategic managers in the design process of sustainable consumer awareness programs to achieve environmental, social and economic benefits in the era of circular economy.

PurposeThis study aims to examine the impact of job-related knowledge sharing on information availability and job satisfaction for information-receiving employees in the public sector. Following self-determination theory, the study suggests that job satisfaction is only partly affected by knowledge sharing itself, but particularly through the availability of job-related information enabling the information receiver to work effectively.Design/methodology/approachThe hypotheses are tested with data from the US Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey from 2018. Additionally, results are replicated with earlier waves of the survey.FindingsResults show the positive impact of job-related knowledge sharing on job satisfaction, whereby the availability of job-relevant information mediates this relationship partially.Practical implicationsThis study confirms that managers should provide room for social interactions when introducing knowledge management practices.Originality/valueThe results emphasize that knowledge sharing is a highly social process in which support and relatedness play a significant role in success in addition to the diffusion of information itself.
