Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor found among young and middle aged women. Feature Selection is a process of selecting most enlightening features from the data set which preserves the original significance of the features following reduction. The traditional rough set method cannot be directly applied to deafening data. This is usually addressed by employing a discretization method, which can result in information loss. This paper proposes an approach based on the tolerance rough set model, which has the flair to deal with real-valued data whilst simultaneously retaining dataset semantics. In this paper, a novel supervised feature selection in mammogram images, using Tolerance Rough Set - PSO based Quick Reduct (STRSPSO-QR) and Tolerance Rough Set - PSO based Relative Reduct (STRSPSO-RR), is proposed. The results obtained using the proposed methods show an increase in the diagnostic accuracy.

Nowadays women are commonly diagnosed with breast cancer. Feature based Selection method plays an important step while constructing a classification based framework. We have proposed Multi filter union (MFU) feature selection method for breast cancer data set. The feature selection process based on random forest algorithm and Logistic regression (LG) algorithm based union model is used for selecting important features in the dataset. The performance of the data analysis is evaluated using optimal features subset from selected dataset. The experiments are computed with data set of Wisconsin diagnostic breast cancer center and next the real data set from women health care center. The result of the proposed approach shows high performance and efficient when comparing with existing feature selection algorithms.

PurposeOne of the main reasons for increase in mortality rate in woman is breast cancer. Accurate early detection of breast cancer seems to be the only solution for diagnosis. In the field of breast cancer research, many new computer-aided diagnosis systems have been developed to reduce the diagnostic test false positives because of the subtle appearance of breast cancer tissues. The purpose of this study is to develop the diagnosis technique for breast cancer using LCFS and TreeHiCARe classifier model.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed diagnosis methodology initiates with the pre-processing procedure. Subsequently, feature extraction is performed. In feature extraction, the image features which preserve the characteristics of the breast tissues are extracted. Consequently, feature selection is performed by the proposed least-mean-square (LMS)-Cuckoo search feature selection (LCFS) algorithm. The feature selection from the vast range of the features extracted from the images is performed with the help of the optimal cut point provided by the LCS algorithm. Then, the image transaction database table is developed using the keywords of the training images and feature vectors. The transaction resembles the itemset and the association rules are generated from the transaction representation based ona priorialgorithm with high conviction ratio and lift. After association rule generation, the proposed TreeHiCARe classifier model emanates in the diagnosis methodology. In TreeHICARe classifier, a new feature index is developed for the selection of a central feature for the decision tree centered on which the classification of images into normal or abnormal is performed.FindingsThe performance of the proposed method is validated over existing works using accuracy, sensitivity and specificity measures. The experimentation of proposed method on Mammographic Image Analysis Society database resulted in classification of normal and abnormal cancerous mammogram images with an accuracy of 0.8289, sensitivity of 0.9333 and specificity of 0.7273.Originality/valueThis paper proposes a new approach for the breast cancer diagnosis system by using mammogram images. The proposed method uses two new algorithms: LCFS and TreeHiCARe. LCFS is used to select optimal feature split points, and TreeHiCARe is the decision tree classifier model based on association rule agreements.

Feature selection is one of the widely used pre-processing techniques to deal with large data sets. In this context, rough set theory has been successfully implemented for feature selection of discrete data set but in case of continuous data set it requires discretization, which may cause information loss. Fuzzy rough set theory approaches have also been used successfully to resolve this issue as it can handle continuous data directly. Moreover, almost all feature selection techniques are used to handle homogeneous data set. In this article, the center of attraction is on heterogeneous feature subset reduction. A novel intuitionistic fuzzy neighborhood models have been proposed by combining intuitionistic fuzzy sets and neighborhood rough set models by taking an appropriate pair of lower and upper approximations and generalize it for feature selection, supported with theory and its validation. An appropriate algorithm along with application to a data set has been added.

In this paper, we present a new extreme learning machine network structure on the basis of tolerance rough set. The purpose of this paper is to realize the high-efficiency and multi-dimensional ELM network structure. Various published algorithms have been applied to breast cancer datasets, but rough set is a fairly new intelligent technique that applies to predict breast cancer recurrence. We analyze Ljubljana Breast Cancer Dataset, firstly, obtain lower and upper approximations and calculate the accuracy and quality of the classification. The high values of the quality of classification and accuracy prove that the attributes selected can well approximate the classification. Rough sets approach is established to solve the prolem of tolerance.
