A kind of recirculating ball-type power steering system for electric power bus was designed. The dynamics equations of EPS were analyzed. The simulation model based Matlab/Simulation was build and verified by the experiments on test-bed. Then the simulation test was carried out when vehicle was stationary. The simulation results verify the validity of the simulation model, which creates the research basis for further research of control strategies.

A kind of recirculating ball-type power steering system for electric power bus was designed. The control strategy of EPS is divided into two layers that are top layer strategy and bottom layer strategy. The assist mode of top layer strategy is researched. The simulation model based MATLAB/Simulation was build and verified by the simulation experiments. The results validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, which creates the research basis for further research and development of EPS.

The simulation model based on MATLAB/Simulink was built for the controller of electric power steering system; assist characteristic is a key part of control. The ideal assist characteristic can satisfy the requirement of steering handiness and road feel. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy control was adopted to build assist characteristic simulation controller of electric power steering system. Then the simulation test was carried out. The simulation results verify the validity of the simulation controller, which creates the research basis for preliminary ascertainment of assist characteristic and further research of control strategies.

A kind of test bench of electric power steering system for electric bus was designed. The spiral spring was assembled as load equipment. The measure and control software is based on virtual instrument technology. The test bench has manual and electric powered input modes. Test results show that the test bench can verify the control strategies and detect the performance of the EPS prototype of electric bus.

Electric power steering is an advanced steering system that uses an electric motor to improve steering comfort of the car. As a result, the failures in the electric motor can lead to additional fault modes and cause damage of the electric power steering system performance. Hence, to ensure the stability of this latter, the present paper proposes a new method to reconfigure the fault control. A novelty approach of fast fault estimation based on adaptive observer is also proposed. Moreover, to guarantee optimal and fast control, a fault-tolerant control based on inverse bond graph modeling is designed to construct the behavior of the nominal system. The simulation and the experimental results on a real electric power steering system reveal the importance of the control strategy and show that the proposed approach works as intended.
