Based on the composition and characteristics of steelmaking dry-dedusting dust and oxide scale in hot-rolling mill, cold briquetting ores were processed by dust and oxide scale, and applied to converter vanadium recover. The research results show that, hot metal carbon oxidation rate and vanadium oxidation rate increased with the increased use of cold briquetting ores, and the TFe content of vanadium slag reduced, the consumption of iron and steel materials decreased. Not only can effectively use the steelmaking mill and hot-rolling mill waste, but also can improve the product quality of the converter vanadium recover.

There is fear that the oxide scale formed in hot rolling causes adverse effects for surface properties of final product. In hot rolling, the sheet surface is occurred reoxidation after descaling. Therefore, the oxide scale is rolled together, and causes the surface defect. In this study, the method for reproducing the oxide scale in hot rolling is proposed by a vacuum hot rolling mill, named the scale transfer method, and focused on the deformation of the oxide scale itself. As the results, it’s possible to reproduce the oxide scale in the actual hot rolling process. It showed that causes the new surface defect for invading the oxide scale in the sheet surface during roll bite.

The influence of used work rolls profiling on the quality of hot rolled metal was studied. The defect non-flatness is the main reason for hot rolled metal rejection to second grade at the continuous hot rolling mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC. The most optimal among studied profiling is concave profiling with average cumulative value ΣΔ=1.71mm. This is evidenced by the least volume of hot rolled metal, rejected to the second grade due to non-flatness.There were mathematical models developed, forecasting the volume of metal, rolled with the defect non-flatness with definite cumulative profiling of work rolls.

It has been proven that the introduction of the systems for continuous control of the equipment technical state is a necessary requirement of the modern maintenance of the critical equipment. The paper proposes the list of the processing facilities applied within the development systems for technical state control. The task of development of the system for recording, storing and displaying oscillographs of the automated electric drives of the wide-strip hot-rolling mill has been defined. The paper offers the analysis of the recording system based on the remote I/O controllers and the system with distributed industrial computers. The most informative-significant signals are listed. The network topology of the decentralized system implemented at the 2,500 mm wide-strip hot-rolling mill of OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works is suggested. Oscillographs of the main coordinates of the mill's electric drives obtained by means of the introduced system are provided.

The paper studies issues of the cross impact of tension and strip gauge at the rolling in the continuous roughing sub-train of the wide strip hot-rolling mill. Functional dependencies and chart of the mathematical model defining interrelation between the specific tension and strip gauge increment are provided. Based on the example of the 2,000 mm hot rolling mill of OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (OAO MMK), it has been proved that rolling is carried out with tension values which exceed several times allowable values. The paper also considers new technical solutions enhancing the speed mode control algorithms and systems of the electric drives of the wide strip hot-rolling mill continuous subgroup.

In the hot rolling process, the steel slab may experience a temperature gradient along its transverse direction which may cause camber and wedge after rolling. Camber and wedge phenomenon will affect the quality of the steel plate. To eliminate camber and wedge phenomenon, a pair of side guides is placed before and behind the hot rolling mill. The position mode and the force mode are the control modes for side guides to correct the slab shape and to guide the slab to follow rolling direction. Finite element analysis using ABAQUS was applied to simulate hot rolling process to find the correction mechanism of rolling equipment. The centerline of slab was traced and the shape of slab was predicted. The difference of rolling load between work side and drive side of roller was determined. Furthermore, the load, stress and velocity distribution on the slab at roll bite were analyzed. By using numerical model, hot rolling parameters including side guide control strategy can be predicted, which can provide the hot rolling line as a guideline to improve the quality of the steel slab.

This research deals with the problem of breakdowns and interruptions and their impact on the industrial system in the iron and steel industry, which considered as one of the industries related to the construction sector and automotive industries. The research is an applied study on the hot rolling mill factory of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company in Misurata. The study introduces analysis for maintenance programs and their economics related to breakdown and breakdown rates in the hot rolling factory in Misurata, which is the main producer of steel reinforcement and steel bars in the Libyan Jamahiriya. Malfunctions and breakdowns are studied through annual statistics reports stop in the previous years of the life of the factory, The effects of mechanical stops on the annual production amount in the factory were estimated and calculated statically, the research also discusses many concepts and strategies for new maintenance operations such as maintenance before malfunctions such as predictive maintenance and periodic maintenance. The research end with a group of conclusions and recommendations for the methods to overcome the problems of stoppages and breakdowns in steel mills, it is establishing a strategy for counting, assessing faults and developing maintenance systems in proportion to the age of the plant.
