Renewable energy source (RES) enables us to diversify our energy supply. This increases our security of supply and improves European competitiveness creating new industries, jobs, economic growth and export opportunities, whilst also reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. The monitoring systems are widely used in RES applications in order to collect data regarding the installed system performance, for evaluation purposes. In this article, the development of a computer-based system for RES systems monitoring is described. This article proposes a tool dedicated to real-time information of electricity and thus implicitly the optimal timing for use of electricity. The proposed system consists for measuring electrical parameters (photovoltaics voltage and current etc.).

Renewable energy source (RES) enables us to diversify our energy supply. Renewable energy sources are getting more and more widespread, mainly due to the fact that they generate energy by keeping the environment clean. This increases our security of supply and improves European competitiveness creating new industries, jobs, economic growth and export opportunities, whilst also reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. This article proposes a simulation of a three-phase low voltage grid with power generation from photovoltaic sources. The proposed system consists of 192 photovoltaic (PV) panels distributed in 32 rows with each 12 PV panels.

This article proposes a solution for smart grid technologies using renewable energy and has as main result the optimisation of energy generation and consum in a power system with distributed power generation from renewable resources, by designing and implementation an system platform for monitoring and transmission the message (phone via SMS) by consumers. This application make available to consumers real-time information about energy, giving them the opportunity to make smart choices, allowing them to reduce their monthly bills and carbon emissions, reducing also the demand during peak periods and allows a more efficient use of renewable energy resources.

Continued growth of urban regions and more stringent water quality regulations have resulted in an increased need for more real-time information about past, present, and future patterns and intensities of precipitation. Detailed, real-time information about precipitation can be obtained using radar and raingages for monitoring and prediction of precipitation amounts. The philosophy and the requirements for the development of real-time radar prediction-monitoring systems are described for climatic region similar to the Midwest of the united States. General data analysis and interpretation techniques associated with rainfall from convective storm systems are presented.

This chapter reviews relevant literature on the current state and effectiveness of developing renewable energy on energy security in general, and on energy security in the European Union (EU) in particular. The chapter elaborates on primary energy import sources, possible alternatives, and how energy security is affected by the sources of supply. It also gives an analysis of the effects of the Ukrainian crisis, the isolation of Iran on diversification sources, and on European energy security. It examines EU’s energy policy, analyses the best motivation for a new energy policy direction within Europe, and suggests alternative solutions for enhanced energy supply security. The aim is to suggest suitable solutions for energy security in Europe through energy supply diversification. Supply diversification includes alternative energy corridors for reducing dependency on Russia as a supplier and enhancing the power generated by renewable energy sources under the European Union 2020 strategy.

Abstract Lack of investment in the electricity sector has created a huge bottleneck in the continuous flow of energy in the market, and this will create many problems for the sustainable growth and development of modern society. The main reason for this lack of investment is the investment risk in the electricity sector. One way to reduce portfolio risk is to diversify it. This study applies the concept of portfolio optimization to demonstrate the potential for greater use of renewable energy, which reduces the risk of investing in the electricity sector. Besides, it shows that investing in renewable energies can offset the risk associated with the total input costs. These costs stem from the volatility of associated prices, including fossil fuel, capital costs, maintenance, operation and environmental costs. This case study shows that Iran can theoretically supply ~33% of its electricity demand from renewable energy sources compared to its current 15% share. This case study confirms this finding and predicts that Iran, while reducing the risk of investing in electricity supply, can achieve a renewable energy supply of ~9% with an average increase in supply costs. Sensitivity analysis further shows that with a 10% change in input cost factors, the percentage of renewable energy supply is only partially affected, but basket costs change according to the scenario of 5–32%. Finally, suggestions are made that minimize risk rather than cost, which will bring about an increase in renewable energy supply.

The renewable energy sources could be used in energy production, while no or only very slightly emit harmful substances to the environment. The solar, wind, hydropower, biomass and heat rational utilization of land contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.Renewable energy sources also reduces the dependence on fossil fuels, thus contributing to increase security of supply. The creation of local jobs to strengthen the area's population retaining ability.
