This paper presents the electric field characteristics in a reverberation chamber which is an electromagnetic compatibility test facility that uses a stirrer to generate a uniform electric field inside it. In this paper, a diffuser is introduced from acoustics and newly designed to overcome problems of a stirrer. To validate the effect of a diffuser, a composite quadratic residue diffuser and a reverberation chamber are modeled. Then, the field uniformity inside the reverberation chamber is simulated by XFDTD 6.2 simulation program. Simulation results show that the electric field uniformity in the reverberation chamber satisfies the international standard requirement. This shows that the composite quadratic residue diffuser can be substituted for a stirrer.

A reverberation chamber, which is a test facility for various electromagnetic compatibility tests, uses a stirrer to generate a uniform electric field inside it. However, a stirrer is a big unit and has difficulties in maintenance. This paper adopted an idea of a diffuser from acoustics to overcome the problems of a stirrer and presents a substitution effect of a diffuser for a stirrer. To validate the substitution effect of a diffuser, a diffuser and a reverberation chamber for 3.0-5.0 GHz band are designed and fabricated. And the real measurement for analyzing the electric field uniformity in a reverberation chamber is done. The measurement results show that the reverberation chamber with a diffuser satisfies the international standard requirement.

Electromagnetic environment (EME) in helicopter cabin is one of the most important indexes for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) on airborne platform. The simulation results were not accurate enough because of the difficulties in accurately modeling and the large computation. Due to the inaccuracy of the former modeling method which used the typical geometric, the professional software ICEMCFD/AI*Environment (AIE) was employed to restore the helicopter’s original model, based on the obtain of the accurate helicopter model, the Multi-layer Fast Multipole Method (MLFMM) and Combined Field Integral Equation (CFIE) were employed to analyze the variation of the electric field in the helicopter cabin versus the frequency and other factors with a VHF antenna mounted on the helicopter. Both accuracy and computing speed were concerned, the results have some guidance significance to the EMC preliminary design on airborne platform.

In order to solve the problem of non-uniform electric field distribution in converter transformer barrier system caused by conductivity difference between the transformer oil and pressboard, the SiC(silicon carbide) modified pressboard was developed by nano doping method. The conductivity of modified pressboard was measured. The measuring results show that the conductivity of modified pressboard increases exponentially with the increase of nano SiC doping ratio. The electric field strength has obvious influence on conductivity at high nano doping ratio, which shows great nonlinear characteristic. Based on the nonlinear conductivity characteristic of modified pressboard, the homogenizing effect of the nano modified pressboard on electric field distribution was verified by simulation. The simulation results show that the electric field distribution under DC and polarity reversal voltage in barrier system can be well homogenized by using the nonlinear characteristic of nano modified pressboard.
