In this paper, SnO2 andFe2O3 doped-SnO2 photocatalysts with different molar ratio of Fe/Sn were synthesized by a parallel flow coprecipitation method. The photocatalysts prepared were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV/Vis diffuse reflectance, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts prepared toward decolorization of methyl orange (MO) solution was evaluated. Of all of the photocatalysts prepared among the experimented compositions, Fe2O3 doped-SnO2 with 1.5%Fe possesses the best photocatalytic activity.

Nb-doped TiO2 powders with different concentrations of Nb have been synthesized by a sol-gel method and characterized by a series of technologies including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 is evaluated by degradation efficiency of methyl orange in aqueous solution. The results indicate that the photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 synthesized with a Nb/Ti molar ratio of 5% is higher than that of TiO2 under the visible light.

In this study, a novel TiO2/β-FeOOH composite photocatalyst was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the composite photocatalyst. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared composite photocatalyst was evaluated in a heterogeneous photo-Fenton-like process using methyl orange (MO) as target pollutant. The TiO2/β-FeOOH composites exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than pure β-FeOOH and TiO2 under visible-light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity can be ascribed to the formation of TiO2/β-FeOOH heterostructure, which plays an important role in expanding the photoactivity to the visible light region and in effectively prolonging the lifetime of photoinduced electrons and holes. Further investigation revealed that the 25TiO2/β-FeOOH composite synthesized with the TiO2/Fe3+ in a mole ratio of 25:75 showed the highest catalytic activity.

In this work, the catalyst silver phosphate (Ag3PO[Formula: see text] with different initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text] and PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution was synthesized by a simple precipitation method from AgNO3 and NH4H2PO4 which were used as the precursor. After that, the prepared samples were characterized by different techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) and decomposition evolution of rhodamine B (RhB) solution. The results indicate that the initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text]/PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution can modify the morphology and also it can significantly affect the photocatalytic performance. During photocatalytic process, the rich Ag[Formula: see text] ion Ag3PO4 can form the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanoparticles, which inhibit the reduction of Ag3PO4 resulting in higher photocatalytic activity and stability.

ZnO photocatalyst was prepared by sol-gel method with the assistance of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The specific surface area and structure were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO prepared for decolorization of methyl orange (MO) aqueous solution was evaluated. The results show that ZnO (mol ratio of ZnO/CTAB is 10) baked at 500°C holds the best photocatalytic activity.

It has been found that the photocatalytic activity of ZnO toward the decolorization of Methyl Orange solution can be greatly improved by loading Ag on the surface of ZnO using a photodeposition method. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), respectively. 0.5%Ag/ZnO demonstrates 2.13 times the photocatalytic activity of pure ZnO.

SnS2 nanoparticles with perfectly crystalline morphology were synthesized via a molten salt synthesis route at a relatively low temperature. The resulting SnS2 nanoparcticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis). The observations of FESEM images showed that the sample consists of a large number of aggregates assembled with numerous nanoparticles packed into compact texture. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared SnS2 samples was evaluated by the degradation of RhB aqueous solution. The effect of the molar ratio of thiourea to SnCl2 on the photocatalytic activity was also investigated, and the result showed that the as-prepared SnS2 sample has high photocatalytic activity efficiency in the degradation of RhB aqueous solution when the molar ratio of thiouea to SnCl2 was 3.

Boron-BiVO4 samples were synthesized by sol-gel method. They were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Photocatalytic activity of the obtained BiVO4 samples was investigated through degrading methylene blue (MB). The results reveal that boron-BiVO4 catalysts have monoclinic scheelite structure. The BiVO4 and Co-BiVO4 photocatalysts were responsive to visible light. Co-BiVO4 photocatalyst showed higher photocatalytic activity than pure BiVO4, resulting in the significantly improved efficiency of degradation of MB.

Silver (Ag+) doped iron (III) vanadate (FeVO4) samples are prepared by the precipitation method and then characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The photocatalytic activity under visible light is evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) in the solution. The results show that both FeVO4 and Ag+ doped FeVO4 samples are triclinic, the later have different surface morphology, and some needle-shaped materials appear in the later. From XPS, there are more Fe2+ ions in Ag+ doped FeVO4 sample than that in FeVO4 one without Ag+. It indicates that Ag+ doping can increase the density of the surface oxygen vacancies of catalysts, which can act as electron traps promoting the electron-hole separation and then increase the photo-activity. The decoloration rate after Ag+ doping against methyl orange solution can reach about 81%, and be more about 20% than that of pure FeVO4.

The p-n junction photocatalysts, p-CuO (at. 0-25%)/n-ZnO nanocomposite were prepared through hydrothermal method without using any organic solvent or surfactant. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that the CuO/ZnO nanocomposite presented a two-dimensional morphology composed of sheet-like ZnO nanostructures adorned with CuO nanoparticles. The photocatalytic activity of CuO/ZnO with different Cu/Zn molar rations and pure ZnO synthesized by the identical synthetic route were evaluated by degrading methylene blue (MB) dye under UV-visible light irradiation. The CuO/ZnO with Cu/Zn molar ratio of 4% exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity compared that of the other photocatalysts under the identical conditions. It is mainly attributed to the increased charge separation rate in the nanocomposite and the extended photo-responding range.

For a few decades, Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) has been the most studied photocatalyst due to its significant optical property. In the paper, TiO2 pigment powder (Anatase form) was selected as a precursor to prepare a variety of Black-TiO2 samples, and the typical material was then evaluated for its photocatalytic activity in organic pollutant treatment. Some properties of Black-TiO2 were determined via common methods such as sensory analysis, X-Ray diffraction, and bandgap measurement obtained from UV-Vis spectroscopy. As a result, the material was successfully converted to more than 40% organic pollutant as Methyl Orange (C14H14N3NaO3S) for an hour, as two times higher than that of the amount converted by pristine TiO2. In addition, Black-TiO2 performed much better photocatalytic activity in an acidic medium in comparison with a neutral one, and the material also remained its activity as more than 90% after three time-continuous recycling operations.
