SnS2 nanoparticles with perfectly crystalline morphology were synthesized via a molten salt synthesis route at a relatively low temperature. The resulting SnS2 nanoparcticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis). The observations of FESEM images showed that the sample consists of a large number of aggregates assembled with numerous nanoparticles packed into compact texture. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared SnS2 samples was evaluated by the degradation of RhB aqueous solution. The effect of the molar ratio of thiourea to SnCl2 on the photocatalytic activity was also investigated, and the result showed that the as-prepared SnS2 sample has high photocatalytic activity efficiency in the degradation of RhB aqueous solution when the molar ratio of thiouea to SnCl2 was 3.

Tuning the morphology of Ag3PO4 photocatalysts with an elevated concentration of KH2PO4 have been successfully conducted. This photocatalyst was prepared by starting material of AgNO3 and KH2PO4.  The KH2PO4 aqueous solution with five concentrations of 0.10 M, 0.15 M, 0.30 M, 0.45 M, and 0.60 M was reacted with AgNO3 aqueous solution. The products were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The concentration of KH2PO4 significantly affected the morphology, size, and crystallinity of catalyst. The morphology of Ag3PO4 may be tuned with the synthesis using an elevated concentration of KH2PO4. The sample with the synthesis using 0.15 M of KH2PO4 exhibited the excellent photocatalytic activity. The high photocatalytic activity was caused by the small size of mixed morphology of sphere and tetrahedron, high crystallinity and defect sites. Copyright © 2019 BCREC Group. All rights reserved

Nb-doped TiO2 powders with different concentrations of Nb have been synthesized by a sol-gel method and characterized by a series of technologies including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 is evaluated by degradation efficiency of methyl orange in aqueous solution. The results indicate that the photocatalytic activity of Nb-doped TiO2 synthesized with a Nb/Ti molar ratio of 5% is higher than that of TiO2 under the visible light.

ZnO crystals with different morphologies were successfully prepared via a simple solution route at low temperature. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS) were used to characterize the products. Photocatalysis of the as-prepared ZnO crystals was evaluated by degradation of methyl orange in an aqueous solution exposed to ultraviolet light. Results suggested a close relationship between the photocatalytic activity and the particle morphology and size.

In this work, the catalyst silver phosphate (Ag3PO[Formula: see text] with different initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text] and PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution was synthesized by a simple precipitation method from AgNO3 and NH4H2PO4 which were used as the precursor. After that, the prepared samples were characterized by different techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) and decomposition evolution of rhodamine B (RhB) solution. The results indicate that the initial ratios of Ag[Formula: see text]/PO[Formula: see text] in aqueous solution can modify the morphology and also it can significantly affect the photocatalytic performance. During photocatalytic process, the rich Ag[Formula: see text] ion Ag3PO4 can form the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanoparticles, which inhibit the reduction of Ag3PO4 resulting in higher photocatalytic activity and stability.

TiO2/Fe2O3 nanocomposite was fabricated by a hydrolysis-precipitation approach, with TiCl4 as precursor and Fe2O3 as support. The crystal phase, diameter and morphology of the sample particle were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope. The results show that the samples are composed of haematite and rutile. The morphology and diameter of rutile particle, coating effect and weight percentages of haematite and rutile are related to the preparing temperature and molar ratio of Fe/Ti. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalyst was estimated in an aqueous solution at ambient temperature of 303K. The results imply that the photocatalytic activity of the sample is higher than that of phase pure rutile, related to Fe/Ti molar ratio and its preparing temperature. These results can be attribute to the microsturcture of the sample. A synergistic effect exists between titania and haematite in the nanocomposite.

BiVO4/Bi2VO5.5 heterogeneous nanostructures with enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity were successfully prepared by a facile one-pot solvothermal method, where diethylene glycol (DEG) was used as the solvent. The as-prepared products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS) and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The results revealed that the molar ratio of Bi3+ to VO43- played an important role in the formation of crystal and morphology. These BiVO4/Bi2VO5.5 heterogeneous nanostructures exhibited higher visible-light-driven photocatalytic efficiency compared to the pure BiVO4 and Bi2VO5.5. For the methyl orange (MO) degradation efficiency of BiVO4/Bi2VO5.5 heterogeneous nanostructures under visible light irradiation, about 95% of MO was degraded within 40min, which is much higher than pure BiVO4 and Bi2VO5.5. The enhancement of photocatalytic activity can attribute to the promoted light absorption capability and the separation efficiency of photo-generated electron-hole pairs.

In this paper, SnO2 andFe2O3 doped-SnO2 photocatalysts with different molar ratio of Fe/Sn were synthesized by a parallel flow coprecipitation method. The photocatalysts prepared were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV/Vis diffuse reflectance, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts prepared toward decolorization of methyl orange (MO) solution was evaluated. Of all of the photocatalysts prepared among the experimented compositions, Fe2O3 doped-SnO2 with 1.5%Fe possesses the best photocatalytic activity.

Using Er (NO3)3·5H2O and Fe (NO3)3·9H2O as major materials, the ErFeO3 nanoparticles were prepared by successive microwave processing and high temperature calcination. The samples were characterized by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). It was found that the single phase ErFeO3 can be obtained through the calcination of microwave processed ErFeO3 precursors at 800°C, and the resulting product was approximation flake of 20-80 nm. The visible-light photocatalytic activity of ErFeO3 nanoparticles was investigated in experimental simulation wastewater containing 10 mg/L methyl orange (MO). The results show that ErFeO3 nanoparticles appear high photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of MO under visible-light irradiation.

Boron-BiVO4 samples were synthesized by sol-gel method. They were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Photocatalytic activity of the obtained BiVO4 samples was investigated through degrading methylene blue (MB). The results reveal that boron-BiVO4 catalysts have monoclinic scheelite structure. The BiVO4 and Co-BiVO4 photocatalysts were responsive to visible light. Co-BiVO4 photocatalyst showed higher photocatalytic activity than pure BiVO4, resulting in the significantly improved efficiency of degradation of MB.

The p-n junction photocatalysts, p-CuO (at. 0-25%)/n-ZnO nanocomposite were prepared through hydrothermal method without using any organic solvent or surfactant. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that the CuO/ZnO nanocomposite presented a two-dimensional morphology composed of sheet-like ZnO nanostructures adorned with CuO nanoparticles. The photocatalytic activity of CuO/ZnO with different Cu/Zn molar rations and pure ZnO synthesized by the identical synthetic route were evaluated by degrading methylene blue (MB) dye under UV-visible light irradiation. The CuO/ZnO with Cu/Zn molar ratio of 4% exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity compared that of the other photocatalysts under the identical conditions. It is mainly attributed to the increased charge separation rate in the nanocomposite and the extended photo-responding range.
