Numerical Simulation of Liquid-Solid Two-Phase Flows on Internal and Outside Flow Field in High Pressure Abrasive Water Jet Cutting Nozzle

Based on premixed high pressure water jet cutting, five kinds of nozzle models were established, and the control equations and closed equtions of liquid-solid two-phase were given. The inside-outside liquid-solid two-phase flow characteristics of the nozzles were simulated by Hybrid Finite Analytic Method (HFAM). The results indicate that the taper-beeline nozzle has better convergence characteristic, good hydraulic characteristic and lower radical velocity, thus it is more suitable for premixed high pressure water jet cutting nozzle.

The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model has been used to investigate the two-phase flow phenomena such as high-pressure water jet. High-pressure water jet is a new technology and develops rapidly due to its advantages in recent years. In this research, the effects of different models on the macroscopic parameters of jet propagation characteristics of high pressure water jet have been investigated numerically through the CFD technique. The simulations of the water jet with three kinds of k-ε models (i.e., standard, RNG, and realizable k-ε models) have been compared under the same conditions. It may be concluded that, the results calculated by the realizable k-epsilon model agree well with the experiment data and the realizable k-epsilon model would be utilized in the latter simulation. The agreement of the predicted data and experimental data are quite reasonable, it demonstrates that the CFD technique can be successfully applied to high-pressure water jet.

The development of abrasive water jet cutting technology needs much higher reliability requirements of water cutting system. As one of the core parts in pressure generating system of water jet cutting, the High-pressure cylinder should have a stable fatigue life. The materials of the high-pressure cylinder are 34CrNi3MoA and AISl4340, and the stress of it under high pressure conditions was analyzed with the finite element analysis software ANSYS. For the existence of repeated plastic strain, the fatigue curves were gat by long-life theory. At last the fatigue of the high-pressure cylinder was simulated based on the stress. The results show that the stress is in distribution of 29MPa - 699MPa, and main of the body is under elastic strain. The whole fatigue condition can meet the requirements, but fatigue situation is worse in close to high pressure check export, the minimal life is 250000 cycle indexes.
