Product properties for innovative materials, e.g. dual phase steels, require precise control of production processes. Difficulties in optimization of process parameters correspond with large number of control variables, which should be considered in the technology design. Sensitivity analysis allows evaluating the importance of all process inputs on the final properties of material. Information on the most important inputs is crucial for further design of the process. Application of sensitivity analysis requires detailed knowledge of the process phenomena as well as the definition of the mathematical model of the thermomechanical process. Furthermore, some sensitivity analysis algorithms are of the high computational cost. Presented work concerns possibility of the application of data exploration approach in evaluation of the importance of process inputs as the alternative for sensitivity analysis. Use of data mining algorithms eliminates necessity of mathematical model development, it also does not require any apriori knowledge about the process. Authors presents the comparison of sensitivity analysis and data exploration approach in evaluating relationships between inputs and outputs of the hot rolling for dual phase steel strips. The presented approach and the perspectives of the practical application could lead to significant decrease of time necessary for the computations of process design. The theoretical considerations are supplemented with the results of both types of analysis.

Application of sensitivity analysis in optimization of process parameters of production processes for innovative materials, e.g. dual phase steel, requires deterministic model of thermomechanical processes and large datasets that covers whole surface of results. Difficulties in optimization of process parameters correspond with large number of control variables, which should be considered in the technology design. Furthermore, conduction of such analysis takes the great computational cost. Presented work concerns possibility of application of regression trees, especially CART model, in preliminary analysis for sensitivity analysis. Use of data mining algorithms enables acquiring of preliminary, rough results: relationships among parameters of the hot rolling process of dual phase steel strips and rules of optimization of this process, it also does not require any apriori knowledge about thermomechanical processes.

The paper considers the mathematical model development technique to build a vector field of the shape deviations when machining flat surfaces of shell parts on multi-operational machines under conditions of anisotropic rigidity in technological system (TS). The technological system has an anisotropic rigidity, as its elastic strains do not obey the accepted concepts, i.e. the rigidity towards the coordinate axes of the machine is the same, and they occur only towards the external force. The record shows that the diagrams of elastic strains of machine units are substantially different from the circumference. The issues to ensure the specified accuracy require that there should be mathematical models describing kinematic models and physical processes of mechanical machining under conditions of the specific TS. There are such models for external and internal surfaces of rotation [2,3], which are successfully implemented in practice. Flat surfaces (FS) of shell parts (SP) are both assembly and processing datum surfaces. Therefore, on them special stipulations are made regarding deviations of shape and mutual arrangement. The axes of the main bearing holes are coordinated with respect to them. The joints that ensure leak tightness and distributed load on the product part are closed on these surfaces. The paper deals with the analytical construction of the vector field F, which describes with appropriate approximation the real surface obtained as a result of modeling the process of machining flat surfaces (MFS) through face milling under conditions of anisotropic properties.

The single-column mode (SCM) of the ICON (ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic) modeling framework is presented. The primary purpose of the ICON SCM is to use it as a tool for research, model evaluation and development. Thanks to the simplified geometry of the ICON SCM, various aspects of the ICON model, in particular the model physics, can be studied in a well-controlled environment. Additionally, the ICON SCM has a reduced computational cost and a low data storage demand. The ICON SCM can be utilized for idealized cases—several well-established cases are already included—or for semi-realistic cases based on analyses or model forecasts. As the case setup is defined by a single NetCDF file, new cases can be prepared easily by the modification of this file. We demonstrate the usage of the ICON SCM for different idealized cases such as shallow convection, stratocumulus clouds, and radiative transfer. Additionally, the ICON SCM is tested for a semi-realistic case together with an equivalent three-dimensional setup and the large eddy simulation mode of ICON. Such consistent comparisons across the hierarchy of ICON configurations are very helpful for model development. The ICON SCM will be implemented into the operational ICON model and will serve as an additional tool for advancing the development of the ICON model.
