Analysis of the Temperature Field of the Diamond Wheel Dressed Using Laser Assisted Ultrasonic-Vibration Combined Dressing Method

During the dressing process of diamond wheel using laser/ultrasonic-vibration combined dressing method, the removal mode of the local materials on the surface of wheel with the use of laser’s heating effect transits from brittle fracture to plastic flow, so that the wear of diamond dresser can be reduced and the dressing efficiency and surface dressing quality can be improved. Using ANSYS analysis software, the three-dimensional units were used and the nonlinearity of the material’s thermophysical properties was taken into account, and thereby, the finite element model of the temperature field of the diamond wheel heated by the laser during the dressing process was constructed. Then, the distributions of the temperature field on the surface and section of the wheel under different technological parameter were acquired. Moreover, the temperature distribution of the dressed wheel under actual working conditions was measured using infrared temperature measurement method. The results indicate that, under the same working conditions, the simulation results using finite element model fit well with the measured values, i.e., the finite element model has important guiding significance to the selection of technological parameters in dressing.

The frame of blueberry harvesters is quite different from other vehicles. In this article, the design for whole frame structure is elaborated. According to the mechanical characteristics of the frame, materials are selected and manufacturability requirements are limited. Based on PRO/E software, accurate model of the frame of blueberry harvesters is established. And then, on the basis of ANSYS software, the finite element model of frame of blueberry harvesters is established to carry out static analysis on full-loaded and distortion working conditions. Results meet the strength requirements and displacement requirements, so it verifies the reasonableness of the design of frame.

Erosion wear is the main failure cause of the throttling ring in artillery, which will lead to the reduction of the reliability of the throttling ring, which also will lead to degradation of the performance of recoil brake. According to the working conditions and environmental characteristics of the throttling ring, the finite element model of the erosion wear of the throttling ring is established, and the erosion wear simulation test is carried out to study the erosion wear rules of the throttling ring under different influencing factors, so as to evaluate the reliability of the throttling ring reasonably. It is of great theoretical and practical value to obtain the reliability information of the throttling ring under different working conditions and to ensure the normal performance of the recoil brake.

The model tuning through sensitivity analysis is a prominent procedure to assess the structural behavior and dynamic characteristics of cable-stayed bridges. Most of the previous sensitivity-based model tuning methods are automatic iterative processes; however, the results of recent studies show that the most reasonable results are achievable by applying the manual methods to update the analytical model of cable-stayed bridges. This paper presents a model updating algorithm for highly redundant cable-stayed bridges that can be used as an iterative manual procedure. The updating parameters are selected through the sensitivity analysis which helps to better understand the structural behavior of the bridge. The finite element model of Tatara Bridge is considered for the numerical studies. The results of the simulations indicate the efficiency and applicability of the presented manual tuning method for updating the finite element model of cable-stayed bridges. The new aspects regarding effective material and structural parameters and model tuning procedure presented in this paper will be useful for analyzing and model updating of cable-stayed bridges.

Abstract The objective of this study is to develop a finite element model of the human thorax with a protective body armor system so that the model can adequately determine the thorax’s biodynamical response from a projectile impact. The finite element model of the human thorax consists of the thoracic skeleton, heart, lungs, major arteries, major veins, trachea, and bronchi. The finite element model of the human thorax is validated by comparing the model’s results to experimental data obtained from cadavers wearing a protective body armor system undergoing a projectile impact.

Abstract Stress analysis and determination of eigen pairs of a typical turbocharger compressor impeller have been carried out using the concept of cyclic symmetry. A simplified model treating the blade and the hub as isolated elements has also been attempted. The limitations of the simplified model have been brought out. The results of the finite element model using the cyclic symmetric approach have been discussed.

Due to the environment, climate, loads and other factors, the pre-stress applied to the beam is not a constant. It is important for engineers to track the state of the pre-stress in order to ensure security of the bridge in service. To solve the problem mentioned above, the paper puts forward a new way to analyze the effective pre-stress using the displacement inversion method based on the inversion theory according to the measured vertical deflection of the bridge in service at different time. The method is a feasible way to predict the effective pre-stress of the bridge in service. Lastly, taking the pre-stressed concrete continuous rigid frame bridge for example, the effective pre-stress is analyzed by establishing the finite element model.

The paper considers the construction of a piezoelectric accelerometer capable of measuring constant linear acceleration. A number of designs are proposed that make it possible to achieve high sensitivity with small dimensions and a wide frequency band (from 10−5 Hz). The finite element model of the proposed design was investigated, and its output characteristic and scale factor (36 mV/g) were obtained.
