The early learning environment is important in the development of racial identity for Black and bi-racial children as this may be the first environment outside of the children’s home environment where they learn about themselves and others. Through semi-structured interviews this qualitative research explores five Black Canadian mothers’ racial socialization practices and perceptions of how their children’s racial identity is being represented in the early learning environment. Employing a constructivist framework and Critical Race Theory (CRT) four overarching themes were identified: “racial socialization behaviours connected to Black identity”, “parents using racial socialization to combat racism”, “lack of resources supporting racial identity”, and “diversity of teachers, authority belongs to everybody”. The mothers in this study employed racial socialization behaviours to buffer against the impact of racism in order to support the healthy development of their children.

This chapter presents an overview of adolescent development, reviews the history of psychological approaches to adolescence, and examines some of the myths about adolescence. Contrary to the myths, most young people do want to communicate with their parents, and it is possible to set limits in this digital age. Styles of parenting—authoritarian, authoritative, and indulgent—are examined with respect to setting limits. Puberty is but one factor in the totality of adolescent development. There is variability in development, based on gender, culture, and socioeconomic status. Boys’ and young men’s limitations in emotional expression and communication problems and young women’s body dissatisfaction are discussed as barriers to healthy development.

Under the background of the current digital age, the development of digital platforms is showing a rapid trend, which also leads to corresponding governance and supervision issues. This article mainly discusses the situation that the current service-based digital platform's role changes, the inapplicability of traditional regulatory rules, and the platform's monopolistic characteristics affect the healthy development of the market economy. The service-based digital platform should be coordinated with multiple entities. At the same time, it is necessary to adhere to the principles of inclusiveness, prudence and applicability in the supervision process, and adopt intelligent supervision methods to achieve the effect of effective governance and supervision of the service-oriented digital platform.
