Leduc is a six-rowed spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Brandon, Manitoba, from the cross Steptoe/Klondike. It was released because of its combination of high yield in parts of the Canadian prairies and disease resistance. Johnston, a six-rowed feed spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) was developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Brandon, Manitoba from a cross involving Klondike, Bonanza and Nord. It has high yield potential across the Canadian prairies, particularly in parts of Alberta, resistance to scald (Rhynchosporium secalis), and excellent field leaf disease ratings.

Otal is a six-rowed spring feed barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) developed and released in Alaska by the United States Department of Agriculture and the state Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station at Palmer. Otal was developed from a cross of the Finnish cultivar Otra, and a breeding line from the Weibullsholm Plant Breeding Institute, Sweden. It was identified at the Agriculture Canada Research Station at Beaver-lodge in Alberta as having promise in the Peace River region for its combination of earliness and high yield, and was licensed for sale in Canada.Key words: Cultivar description, barley, Hordeum vulgare L. early-maturity

AC Medallion is a high-yield ing, white hulled oat cultivar possessing the crown rust resistance gene combination Pc38, Pc39, and Pc68, which is highly effective against the crown rust population on the Canadian prairies at the time of registration. It has very good resistance to loose and covered smut, good resistance to stem rust, and moderate tolerance to Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV). AC Medallion has good kernel characteristics including good protein and oil content. AC Medallion is well suited for the oat-growing areas of western Canada and in particular the Black Soil zone of Manitoba and Saskatchewan and the Brown soil zone of Saskatchewan and Alberta. Ellice is a two-rowed malting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Winnipeg, Manitoba from a cross involving CI5791, Parkland, Betzes, Piroline, Akka, Centennial, Klages, Cambrinus and Tern. This cultivar (registration no. 2715) is earlier and has better straw strength and malting quality than Klages. It has demonstrated yield potential equal to Klages and Harrington throughout the prairie provinces. It is resistant to stem rust and powdery mildew and tolerant to net blotch and the surface borne smuts. OAC Elmira is a high-yielding, disease-resistant, hardy winter barley adapted to Southern Ontario. OAC Elmira has good winter hardiness and high hectoliter weight. It has better disease resistance than any of the check cultivars and long straw with a lax, nodding head. It was developed by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food through the Crop Science Department of the University of Guelph. Ronald is a high-yielding, white-hulled, tall semidwarf oat (Avena sativa L.) cultivar with greatly improved panicle emergence compared with previously tested semidwarf lines. Ronald is postulated to carry the crown rust resistance combination Pc38, Pc39 and Pc68, which is highly effective against most of the present crown rust races on the Canadian prairies. It has very good resistance to loose and covered smut and good resistance to most of the prevalent races of stem rust, due to the likely presence of Pg2, Pg9 and Pg13, and moderate tolerance to barley yellow dwarf virus. Ronald has good kernel characteristics, such as high test weight, kernel weight and percent plump kernels. The grain characteristics exhibited by Ronald including hull-to-groat ratio, protein content and oil content should make it suitable for milling. It has excellent resistance to lodging. Ronald is well adapted for the oat growing areas of western Canada and in particular the Black Soil Zone of Manitoba and Saskatchewan where oat crown rust is prevalent.
