   The authors presented the results of the influence of stress factors on the yield of garden strawberry remontant large-fruited. Phenological and morphological observations, recording and evaluating the quality of the obtained fruits were carried out during the research. Varieties of remontant strawberries with a complex of economically beneficial features were identified. There were features as high yield, winter hardiness, resistance to major diseases and pests were presented. The obtained data confirmed that the highest productivity per bush showed varieties bearing fruit during the entire growing season: Selva - 376.06g, Vima Rina - 411.27g, Remontant large-fruited (hybrid) - 425.42g.

The results of biological evaluation of awnless bromegrass varieties in different agroclimatic zones of Yakutia are presented. A total of 143 collection varieties of awnless bromegrass from the genetic collection of VIR, other research institutions and local wild specimen were used in the research. The varieties studied are highly winter-hardy, the breeding specimen numbers to a greater extent. The drought tolerance of the varieties grown in the three zones of Yakutia is evaluated. A close relationship between winter hardiness and drought tolerance (water retention capacity) in awnless bromegrass was established. The correlation coefficient averaged 0.74. The intensity of transpiration in awnless bromegrass cultivars is evaluated. Analysis of the daily dynamics of transpiration revealed that during the initial development phase of generative shoots (emergence into a tube), the minimum intensity of transpiration occurred in the evening and the maximum in the morning and afternoon hours. During the earing and flowering phase, the intensity of transpiration depends on weather conditions. It has been established that high winter hardiness of awnless bromegrass accounts for high hay yield; low water-holding capacity accounts for winter hardiness and maximum hay yield in the conditions of Yakutia's cryolithozone. The correlation coefficients between winter hardiness, drought tolerance parameters and hay yield at different herbage levels averaged –0,85… –0,24. The standard variety of awnless bromegrass Kamalinsky 14 is stable and highly adapted to the conditions of Yakutia, and is recommended as a seed parent in the selection process for awnless bromegrass. When selecting varieties of awnless bromegrass, attention should be paid to varieties from local breeding, as well as populations of expeditionary collections across Yakutia, which have high seed yields.

Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser. is one of the most popular ornamental crops, used in landscape design. This article represents the study of the variety resistance of species and influence their of climatic change. In that sense the effective technology of plant shelter for the winter hardiness can be considered as a successful important factor for the promotion of this crop in northern area. Wherefore we consider in a comparative analysis of H. macrophylla varieties Forever & Ever Blue and Peppermint, which we carried out after winter hardiness in the conditions of central Russia. The most reliable and proven way to shelter for winter of hydrangea is the shelter of lutrasil, which contributed to an increase in the viability of shoots and the amount awakened buds, and also provided the better growth of shoots during the month. The highest percentage of overwintered shoots (77,8%), the amount of vegetative and generative buds (19,3±1,3 сm и 9,6±0,7 сm., respectively) and the total growth of shoots in spring (10,2 cm) were characteristic for variety Forever & Ever Blue for using lutrasil as a shelter. The results of research on the influence of low temperatures on the structural parts of shoots of three varieties and a hybrid of domestic and foreign selection of black walnut in the conditions of cultivation of the Liso-steppe and Polissya of Ukraine are highlighted. It was found that the core of the shoot, depending on the year of vegetation, and the buds were damaged the most by low temperatures on average during three years of research. The most resistant to low temperatures were the tissues of the bark and cambium, of the varieties — plants The highlight of the garden. This variety can be used for breeding work for winter hardiness to obtain stable forms.

Aim. The goal is to assess the winter and frost resistance of plants of representatives of the genus Cotinus Mill. from the collection of the National Dendrological Park "Sofiyivka" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Botanical Garden named after Academician Alexander Fomin of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Methods. The frost resistance of plants was investigated in the laboratory of plant physiology of the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, by the method of direct freezing of shoots during the period of forced dormancy of plants. The intensity of damage (browning) of tissues on transverse sections of shoots was assessed using a six-point scale by M. A. Solov'eva (1982). The objects of study were plants C. obovatus Raf., C. coggygria Scop., C. coggygria 'Royal Purple', C. coggygria 'Purpurea'. Winter hardiness was assessed visually on an eight-point scale by S. Ia. Sokolov, (1957). Results. According to estimates of the general freezing of plants in the winter period of 2014–2020, minor injuries were found in all representatives of the genus Cotinus, which were estimated at 1–2 points. The results of experimental studies of plant frost resistance showed that in most variants of the experiment, the tissues of the upper internode and buds froze more. The tissues of the medial part of the shoot turned out to be the most resistant to freezing. According to the results of artificial freeze testing of cut shoots of C. coggygria and C. coggygria 'Royal Purple", sampled in the period of forced dormancy of plants, insignificant tissue damage was revealed at freezing temperature of –25 °С and –30 °С (0.63–1.70), only at temperature of –35 °C, the score of bark damage was 2.3–2.5 points. Conclusions. The low temperatures of the winter period of the study area cannot be considered as limiting abiotic factors that limit the widespread use of the studied representatives of the genus Cotinus in landscape construction. The high potential of frost and winter hardiness of the studied taxa gives grounds to test them in the more northern regions of the Right Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine to create garden and park compositions, because due to high decorative flowering and specific crown shape they have an attractive appearance in both group and solitary plantations.

The analysis of environmental plasticity and stability made it possible to identify adaptable gooseberry cultivars: ‘Avangard’ (CA = 1.77), ‘Vladil’ (CA = 1.58), ‘Grinchel’ (CA = 1.24), ‘Kovcheg’ (CA = 1.13) and ‘Arlekin’ (CA = 1.01). Cv. ‘Grinchel’, submitted for state trials in 2020, is an intensive-type cultivar (bi = 1.49), cvs. ‘Arlekin’ (bi = 1.03; Si2 = 4.1) and ‘Vladil’ (bi =1.03; Si2 = 1.0) are environmentally plastic and stable, while cvs. ‘Avangard’ (bi = 0.51) and ‘Kovcheg’ (bi = 0.53) belong to the neutral type. The advantages of these cultivars are their high productivity, large fruit size, dessert flavor, high winter hardiness, low thorniness, and increased resistance to American gooseberry mildew. High productivity in years with favorable and satisfactory growing conditions can be provided by the intensive-type cultivars ‘Stanichny’ (bi = 1.55) and ‘Kooperator’ (bi = 1.35) as well as the plastic but insufficiently stable cv. ‘Uralsky Izumrud’ (bi = 1.03; Si2= 5.3).

The sweet cherry genetic collection of RUE "Institute of Fruit Growing" is including 273 accessions, which have been studied for the main economic and biological traits. The main features for selection are large-fruited combined with winter hardiness and resistance to cherry leaf spot. After an evaluation of the collection, three large-fruited accessions with tough pulp of the fruit were selected. The Ukrainian early fruit ripening variety ‘Annushka’ was selected among the introduced cherry varieties. This variety has large fruits of excellent taste and is characterized by high winter hardiness. Two Belarusian promising selections ‘84-10/98’ (‘Narodnaya’ o.p.) and ‘94-30/41’ (‘Vityaz’ × ‘Aelita’) were selected on these grounds. Selection ‘84-10/98’ has a medium and ‘94-30/41’ has late fruit ripening terms.

Climate changes leading to higher summer temperatures can adversely affect cool season crops like spring barley. In the Upper Midwest region of the United States, one option for escaping this stress factor is to plant winter or facultative type cultivars in the autumn and then harvest in early summer before the onset of high-temperature stress. However, the major challenge in breeding such cultivars is incorporating sufficient winter hardiness to survive the extremely low temperatures that commonly occur in this production region. To broaden the genetic base for winter hardiness in the University of Minnesota breeding program, 2,214 accessions from the N. I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry (VIR) were evaluated for winter survival (WS) in St. Paul, Minnesota. From this field trial, 267 (>12%) accessions survived [designated as the VIR-low-temperature tolerant (LTT) panel] and were subsequently evaluated for WS across six northern and central Great Plains states. The VIR-LTT panel was genotyped with the Illumina 9K SNP chip, and then a genome-wide association study was performed on seven WS datasets. Twelve significant associations for WS were identified, including the previously reported frost resistance gene FR-H2 as well as several novel ones. Multi-allelic haplotype analysis revealed the most favorable alleles for WS in the VIR-LTT panel as well as another recently studied panel (CAP-LTT). Seventy-eight accessions from the VIR-LTT panel exhibited a high and consistent level of WS and select ones are being used in winter barley breeding programs in the United States and in a multiparent population.

The article presents an assessment of the adaptability of introduced varieties of honeysuckle to the conditions of the Pre-Urals of Bashkortostan. The research was carried out at the primary variety study site of the Kushnarenkovsky breeding center of the BNIISKH UFIC RAS. Landing scheme 3.0´1.0 m. 7 varieties were selected as objects: varieties of selection of M.A. Lisavenko Research Institute of Horticulture - Zoluska, Galochka, Berel; varieties of YUUNIIPK - Chelyabinka, Chernichka; variety of Bakcharskaya experimental horticulture station - Bakcharskaya. As a control, the variety of the M. A. Lisavenko NIISS - Goluboe vereteno - was taken. The studies were conducted from 2016 to 2020. in accordance with the "Program and methodology of variety study of fruit, berry and nut crops". During the study, it was found out that all the studied varieties showed good winter hardiness. In 2017, damage to the apical buds of the winter desiccation type was observed in the varieties Chelyabinka and Zolushka by 23-25%. Dry conditions had a negative impact on productivity, leading to shedding of the ovary, a decrease in the weight of the fruit. The studied varieties differed among themselves in the degree of shedding. The control variety Goluboe vereteno is classified as highly crumbling, the weakly crumbling variety is Zolushka Chelyabinka, Bakcharskaya and the non - crumbling variety is Galochka, Chernichka and Berel. In the varieties Bakcharskaya, Berel and Goluboe vereteno, the extension of terminal buds was noted in the years of research. By weight of one berry, the following varieties were distinguished: Bakcharskaya (0.72 g), Galochka (0.75 g), Chernichka (0.81 g). The Chernichka (2.8 kg per bush) and Galochka (3.1 kg per bush) varieties were distinguished by high yield, on average, for 5 years. In general, the introduced varieties of honeysuckle show high adaptability in the natural and climatic conditions of the Pre-Urals of Bashkortostan.
