A new approach to the description of an inhomogeneous chain of coupled resonators (inhomogeneous disk waveguides) is proposed. New matrix difference equations based on the technique of coupled integral equations and the decomposition method are obtained. Various approximate approaches have been developed, including the WKB approximation.

AbstractIn this paper, new oscillation results for nonlinear third-order difference equations with mixed neutral terms are established. Unlike previously used techniques, which often were based on Riccati transformation and involve limsup or liminf conditions for the oscillation, the main results are obtained by means of a new approach, which is based on a comparison technique. Our new results extend, simplify, and improve existing results in the literature. Two examples with specific values of parameters are offered.

Based on the renewal process theory we develop a decomposition method to analyze the reliability of the repair facility in ann-unit series system with vacations. Using this approach, we study the unavailability and the mean replacement number during(0,t]of the repair facility. The method proposed in this work is novel and concise, which can make us see clearly the structures of the facility indices of a series system with an unreliable repair facility, two convolution relations. Special cases and numerical examples are given to show the validity of our method.

In this paper, we study the convergence of the generalized weak Presic type k-step iterative method for a class of operators f:Xk ? X satisfying Presic type contractive conditions. We also obtain the global attractivity results for a class of matrix difference equations.
