In linguistics the structuring role of conjunctions is emphasized, whereas its pragmatic and contrastive study is often foregrounded. Conjunction may be prerequisite for contrastive study. The present research is mainly aimed at establishing semantic – functional characteristics of the conjunction “and”, as well as identifying its equivalents in Armenian translation. In other words only one translation direction is investigated, namely English to Armenian. The merit of this research lies in the fact that the study of conjunction from contrastive perspective reveals structural similarities and dissimilarities of the source language and the target language. Contrastive study can be used to get new insights into syntax and the findings of this analysis can prove to be useful in such fields as comparative grammar, pragmatics, second-language teaching, etc.

<p>With the development of society and the progress of the times, it is very important for people to master a second language. Nowadays, the development of our country is becoming more and more international. Under such an environment, the application of second language is becoming more and more popular. At present, various colleges and universities have listed second language as a compulsory course, mainly to attract students' attention. In the process of second language teaching, in order to effectively enhance students' language skills and promote the teaching results of second language, the author believes that language teaching and situational teaching should be fully combined to effectively enhance students' second language ability. On this basis, the application of situational teaching method in second language teaching is discussed and analyzed in details from different levels.</p>

In this paper we examine the treatment of terminology in CLIL context (Content and language integrated learning), through the analysis of a corpus of subject textbooks in a foreign language and in Italian as a second language. After introducing the CLIL methodology and its application in the field of foreign language and Italian as a second language teaching as regards the Italian context, we consider the role of terminology in CLIL environment. Then we present the results of the analysis of the corpus, which consists of CLIL textbooks in English for the secondary school and of subject textbooks in Italian as a second language for non-native speakers of secondary school and adult migrants who need the qualification of Italian secondary school. The analysis of the treatment of terminology in the corpus allows to outline methodological suggestions to integrate the terminological approach into teaching practice in different CLIL contexts.

The article attempts to address some of the issues related to successful second language teaching and suggest possible solutions. The success of teaching depends on the relevance of the favorable teaching atmosphere accompanied with the awareness of students’ objectives. It is necessary to use original texts and pay attention to the independent thinking and individuality of the students. The article pays special attention to the role of the teacher, his/her ability to present the material and other issues related to modern methods. These factors contribute to the promotion of the efficiency of second language teaching.
