<p class="abstract"><strong><span lang="EN-US">Background: </span></strong>The aim of the study was to study the advantages and disadvantages of endoscopic septoplasty and conventional septoplasty and to co-relate the two procedures in terms of intra-operative visualization, duration of surgery, procedural difficulties, hospital stay and complications.</p><p class="abstract"><strong><span lang="EN-US">Methods: </span></strong>It is a prospective study done during November 2017 to April 2019 on 50 patients with symptomatic deviated nasal septum. Patients were randomly divided into conventional septoplasty and endoscopic septoplasty groups of 25 each. Surgery was performed as according to the division. Followed up on 1st week, 15th day, 1st month and 3rd month.  </p><p class="abstract"><strong><span lang="EN-US">Results: </span></strong>In endoscopic septoplasty group, septal pathology, precise correction of the pathology, with less complications were seen. Hospital stay and duration of surgery were significantly less in endoscopic group.</p><p class="abstract"><strong><span lang="EN-US">Conclusions: </span></strong>For minimal and posterior deviations of the septum, endoscopic septoplasty is better, whereas for anterior deviations, conventional septoplasty could be better choice.</p>

<p class="abstract"><strong>Background:</strong> Myringoplasty is a common ear surgery performed all over the world. This study is focused on prospective comparative study using two different graft materials.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> This was a prospective study done in the Department of ENT Stanley Medical College, Chennai during the period from March 2013 to September 2013. Sample size was 60 patients. Follow up was done till 6 months.  </p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results:</strong> Graft acceptance was achieved in 28 patients (93%) who underwent palisade cartilage myringoplasty, whereas it was achieved in 24 patients (80%) in the temporalis fascia myringoplasty group.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions:</strong> The outcomes in our patient series indicate that cartilage myringoplasty achieves good results. Cartilage, a very effective material for the reconstruction of the TM and grafts can provide an excellent anatomical result, perfect stability and good functional outcome.</p>

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of computer-assisted hexapod fixators in dogs and to consider the advantages and disadvantages during implementation. Materials and Methods This was a prospective study. The study material consisted of 11 deformed extremities of 6 dogs. The correction plans were defined according to multiple extremity radiographs of the dog and the clinical evaluation of deformities. All measurements were uploaded to Click2Correct software program. Latent, correction and consolidation periods of each dog were recorded. The hexapod external fixators were removed after completion of the correction. Results Data were adapted to the radiographic navigation software to be used during operation and postoperative period. The latent period ranged from 3 to 20 days, the correction period ranged from 7 to 20 days and the consolidation period ranged from 39 to 81 days. It was concluded that special fixators can be used in dogs with complex antebrachial deformities. Clinical significance The ability to perform six axes correction at the same time has a considerable advantage, especially in dogs with complex antebrachial deformities. It is practical to use this fixation system in dogs with antebrachial deformities.

Objective: To find out the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonic tonsillectomy by harmonic scalpel.Design and setting: A prospective study was conducted over a period of five years; from 01.07.2005 to 30.06.2010 in Comfort Nursing Home, 167B, Green Road, Dhaka, Bangladesh.Results: Hospital admitted 540 cases of ultrasonic harmonic scalpel tonsillectomy were included and analyzed. 360 cases were male; whereas 180 cases were female in this study. 0-10 years (168 cases) were the commonest age group of study people. Complications were rare, only two cases 0.37% of secondary hemorrhage had happened and no cases of reactionary hemorrhage was reported.Conclusion: The advantages are almost no bleeding, precise dissection of tonsils, less post operative pain, reduce postoperative discomfort, earlier return to normal activities, oral feeding immediately after operation and less operative time. ABSTRACT Aim The aim of our study was to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of three-dimensional (3D) plating system in the treatment of mid-face fractures. Patients and methods Thirty mid-face fractures in 18 patients at various anatomic locations were treated by open reduction and internal fixation using 3D plates. All patients were followed at regular intervals of 4th, 8th and 12th weeks respectively. Patients were assessed postoperatively for postoperative complication and occlusal stability. The incidence of neurosensory deficit, infection, masticatory difficulty, nonunion and malunion was also assessed. Results A significant reduction in fracture (72.2%) and occlusal stability (72.2%) was seen. The overall complication rate was (16.6%) which included two patients who developed postoperative paresthesia of lip, three patients had infection and two cases of masticatory difficulty which later subsided by higher antibiotics and 4 weeks of MMF. No evidence of nonunion and malunion was noted. Conclusion Single 3D titanium plates with 1.7 mm diameter holes and 1.7 mm screws were reliable and an effective treatment modality for mid-face fracture. Clinical significance Because of unique biogeometrical design owing to lesser amount of hardware material (fixation device) resulting into increased stability, the fixation in mid-face fractures is better in comparison to conventional 1.5 mm miniplate fixation.
