BackgroundOnline triage software is a new way to triage patients online that allows patients to describe their problem via an online form. A GP then contacts the patient to arrange either a face-to-face or telephone consultation.AimThis study aimed to explore use of online consultation software and gain insight into patients’ experiences of using online consultations, identifying potential barriers and facilitators to use.MethodThis is a mixed methods retrospective study analysing data about patient users and their associated feedback. Data from a sample of 5591 patients were quantitatively analysed to describe characteristics of users. 576 out of the 5591 users left free-text feedback comments on their experience of use. These were thematically analysed.ResultsThe highest levels of use were observed in 25–35-year olds and lowest from those aged >65. Key themes identified included convenience, consultation quality, appropriateness, resource-use and functionality. Within each, a range of subthemes were present representing both positive and negative perceptions, suggesting that experiences of using online triage varied and were often context-dependentConclusionThere are various advantages to online triage software, but these are context-dependent. Therefore, such applications should be offered as an additional way to contact the GP surgery, rather than a replacement for more established methods, to ensure appropriate and equal access for patients.

Background: Student anxiety about statistics may lead to poorer learning outcomes. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate an exercise designed to teach students in an introductory statistics class the principles of bivariate regression and to emphasize how statistical tools used by psychologists are also implemented in other fields. Method: Students used a published model on the relationship between tooth size and the length of great white sharks to estimate the length of extinct sharks and to explore factors that could affect the accuracy or validity of regression analyses. Data from an anonymous self-report scale were used to assess the activity. Results: More than 95% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the activity was engaging, approximately 95% of students agreed or strongly agreed that the activity helped them learn about factors that can lead to problems with bivariate correlation/regression, and approximately 91% of respondents correctly answered a question designed to assess basic content acquisition. Conclusion: Feedback data suggest that the exercise was successful in achieving its content and process learning goals. Teaching Implications: Implementation of similar exercises may improve student engagement and outcomes in psychology statistics courses.

Purpose Many people in severe mentally disturbed states do not use language or other symbolic media well or coherently. Therefore, the non-verbal medium needs to be understood by workers with such people. The “Learning from Action” experiential workshop was developed in order to provide an opportunity to learn about hidden messages in the relationships and roles occurring in activities. In August 2017, a workshop was run for the first time in Japan. The purpose of this paper is to report the experience and dynamics observed by the three consultants, who are here the authors of this paper. Design/methodology/approach After the workshop all the staff and members, including interpreters, were invited to give feedback. Findings Analysis of the feedback data showed certain important dynamics, concerning especially dependence, cultural defences and the defensive role of activity in a multicultural context. Research limitations/implications This is an initial experience to be followed up by later feedback and further workshops. Practical implications Workers awareness of non-verbal communication within the roles of work activities is a training possibility. It faces various resistances including the mental health assumptions of meaninglessness of any communication outside the verbal. Originality/value This is a method of training not widely used even in European countries, and is the first in a country in the far east.

Abstract Plastic products are common in contemporary daily lives. In the plastics industry, the injection molding process is advantageous for features such as mass production and stable quality. The problem, however, is that the melt will be affected by the residual stress and shrinkage generated in the process of filling and cooling; hence, defects such as warping, deformation, and sink marks will occur. In order to reduce product deformation and shrinkage during the process of molding, the screw of the injection molding machine will start the packing stage when filling is completed, which continuously pushes the melt into the cavity, thus making up for product shrinkage and improving their appearance, quality, and strength. If the packing pressure is too high, however, the internal residual stress will increase accordingly. This study set out to apply gas counter pressure (GCP) in the injection molding process. By importing gas through the ends of the cavity, the melt was exposed to a melt front pressure, which, together with the packing pressure from the screw, is supposed to reduce product shrinkage. The aim was to investigate the impacts of GCP on the process parameters via the changes in machine feedback data, such as pressure and the remaining injection resin. This study also used a relatively thin plate-shaped product and measurements, such as the photoelastic effect and luminance meter, to probe into the impacts of GCP on product residual stress, while a relatively thick paper-clip-shaped product was used to see the impacts of GCP on shrinkage in thick parts. According to the experimental results, the addition of GCP resulted in increased filling volume, improvement of product weight and stability, and effective reduction of section shrinkage, which was most obvious at the point closest to the gas entrance. The shrinkage of the sections parallel and vertical to the flow direction was proved to be reduced by 32% and 16%, respectively. Moreover, observations made via the polarizing stress viewer and luminance meter showed that the internal residual stress of a product could be effectively reduced by a proper amount of GCP.

Termination is an important property of programs, and is notably required for programs formulated in proof assistants. It is a very active subject of research in the Turing-complete formalism of term rewriting. Over the years, many methods and tools have been developed to address the problem of deciding termination for specific problems (since it is undecidable in general). Ensuring the reliability of those tools is therefore an important issue.In this paper we present a library formalising important results of the theory of well-founded (rewrite) relations in the proof assistant Coq. We also present its application to the automated verification of termination certificates, as produced by termination tools.The sources are freely available athttp://color.inria.fr/.
