A combined experimental and theoretical study on molecular and vibrational structure of E-N¢ (ICINH) had been carried out. The FTIR, FT-Raman and UV-Vis spectra of ICINH were recorded in the solid phase. The optimized geometry was calculated by B3LYP method with 6-311++G(d,p) level of basis set. The harmonic vibrational frequencies, IR intensities and Raman scattering activities of the title compound were calculated at same level of theory. The scaled theoretical wavenumber showed very good agreement with the experimental values. The mulliken charges and thermodynamic functions of the ICINH were also performed at same level of theory. NLO and a study on the electronic properties such as excitation energies and wavelength, were performed by TD-DFT approach. HOMO–LUMO energy gap was also calculated and interpreted.

Tetrathiafulvalene () is an organosulfur compound used in the production of molecular devices such as switches, sensors, nonlinear optical devices and rectifiers. In this work, a theoretical study on the effects of solvent on TTF molecule was investigated and reported based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) as implemented in Gaussian 03 package using B3LYP/6-31++G(d,p) basis set. Different solvents were introduced as a bridge to investigate their effects on the electronic structure. The HUMO, LUMO, energy gap, global chemical index, thermodynamic properties, NLO and DOS analysis of the TTF molecule in order to determine the reactivity and stability of the molecule were obtained. The results obtained showed that the solvents have effects on the electronic and non-linear-optical properties of the molecule. The optimized bond length revealed that the molecule has strong bond in gas phase with smallest bond length of about 1.0834Å than in the rest of the solvents. It was observed that the molecule is more stable in acetonitrile with HOMO-LUMO gap and chemical hardness of 3.6373eV and 1.8187eV respectively. This indicates that the energy gap and chemical hardness of TTF molecule increases with the increase in polarity and dielectric constant of the solvents. The computed results agreed with the results in the literature. The thermodynamics and NLO properties calculation also indicated that TTF molecule has highest value of specific heat capacity (Cv), total dipole moment () and first order hyperpolarizability () in acetonitrile, while acetone has the highest value of entropy and toluene has a slightly higher value of zero point vibrational energy (ZPVE) than the rest of the solvents. The results show that careful selection of the solvents and basis sets can tune the frontier molecular orbital energy gap of the molecule and can be used for molecular device applications.

AbstractPossible stable conformers of the 1-(4-pyridyl)piperazine (1-4pypp) molecule were experimentally and theoretically studied by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy. FT-IR and Raman spectra were recorded in the region of 4000–200 cm−1. Optimized geometric structures related to the minimum on the potential energy surface were investigated by the B3LYP hybrid density functional theory method using the 6-31G(d) basis set. Comparison of the experimental and theoretical results indicates that the density functional B3LYP method provides satisfactory results for the prediction of vibrational wavenumbers and structural parameters and equatorial-equatorial (e-e) isomer is supposed to be the most stable form of the 1–4pypp molecule.

The computational Quantum Chemistry (QC) has been used for different types of problems, for example: structural biology, surface phenomena and liquid phase. In this paper we have employed the density functional method for the study of molecular structure of loganin. The equilibrium geometry, harmonic vibrational frequencies and infrared intensities were calculated by B3LYP/6-311G (d, p) method and basis set combinations. It was found that the optimized parameters obtained by the DFT/B3LYP method are very near to the experimental ones. A detailed conformational analysis was carried out. A detailed interpretation of the infrared spectra of loganin is also reported in the present work. The FT-IR spectra of loganin were recorded in solid phase. The thermodynamic calculations related to the title compound were also performed at B3LYP/6-311G (d, p) level of theory.

Based on the First-principles and the method of quantum chemistry calculations, using the B3LYP method and 6-31G basis set of the density functional theory (DFT), the configurations and binding energy of Nen (n=2~36) clusters are calculated and studied theoretically after the calculation of geometry optimization. By changing the atomic number n of the Nen (n=2~36) clusters, it obtained that the stable structures, the binding energy and HOMO - LUMO energy gap of the Nen (n=2~36) clusters under the same ideal conditions, and summarizes the change rule of the stable configurations, the binding energy and the average bond length of the Nen (n=2~36) clusters.

We have synthesized and characterized a series of carbothioamide derivatived molecules, obtained by reaction of aromatic aldehyde (Anisaldehyde, 9-anthraldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, indole-3-carboxaldehyde, 1-naphthaldehyde and o-vanillin) with an equimolar amount of 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide with microwave irradiation. The synthesized compounds have been characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Quantum calculations of the physical properties, based on density functional theory method at B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory, were performed, by means of the Gaussian 09W set of programs. The theoretical 1H NMR chemical shift results of the studied compounds have been calculated at B3LYP method and standard 6-31+G(d,p) basis set using the standard Gauge-Independent Atomic Orbital approach. The calculated values are also compared with the experimental data available for these molecules. A good linear relationship between the experimental and calculated data has been obtained.

Steiger N-acylation of a-alanine with 4-(4-bromophenylsulfonyl)benzoyl chloride led to 2-[4-(4-bromophenylsulfonyl)benzamido]propanoic acid. This compound underwent intramolecular cyclization in the presence of N-methylmorpholine and ethyl chloroformate or acetic anhydride to the corresponding saturated azlactone. Then acylaminoacylation of dry aromatic hydrocarbons with 2-[4-(4-bromophenylsulfonyl)phenyl]-4-methyloxazol-5(4H)-one or 2-[4-(4-bromophenylsulfonyl) benzamido ]propanoyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride led to corresponding a-acylamino ketones. These new intermediates were heterocyclized under the action of phosphorus oxychloride or concentrated sulfuric acid in the presence of acetic anhydride to the corresponding oxazoles. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral studies (FT-IR, UV-Vis, MS, 1H- and 13C-NMR) and elemental analysis. The purity of the new compounds was evaluated by RP-HPLC. The experimental research regarding to the in vitro cytotoxic activity of the new compounds were performed using Daphnia magna bioassay.
