Epiphytic algae adherent to aquatic plants are an essential link in the composition of the food chain of any ecosystem. Epiphytic algae act as primary producers of the food chain in the aquatic ecosystem and as natural food for herbivorous zooplankton and fish. This study aimed to detect the presence of algae colonies through remote sensing and to analyze factors that affect the growth of algae through field survey and visual interpretation of satellite images in Lake Um El-Naaj. Samples were collected from six locations on Lake Um El-Naaj from November 2018 to June 2019. The algae samples were collected from submerged parts of emerging aquatic plants (aquatic macrophytes Phragmites australis) and stored in plastic bags with little ambient water and solutions for preservation in the field and the laboratory. Water samples were collected to study the nutritional factors that influence the growth of algae, including the concentration of Phosphate, Nitrate, and Silica (silicon dioxide). The results showed that the values of total phosphorus increased by 1.0, 0.9, and 0.8 mg/L, in January, in places 2, 5, and 6, respectively. The highest nitrate value was 11.2 mg/L in December at site 5, while the lowest concentration values were in November (2.2 mg/L at site 6 and 3.7 mg/L at site 4). Besides, the lowest silicate concentration was 0.4 mg/L in November at site 2, while the highest was 2.4 mg/L in June 2019 at site 6. Based on the findings, it is possible to conclude that, during the winter, the water level increased due to the rain. For this reason, nutrient concentrations were low during the last period. Also, with the use of maps and remote sensing techniques, it is possible to determine the expected values around the station's location as future predictive readings that compensate for the difficulty of reaching these areas.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the most important geomorphological changes of the Shatt al-Arab estuary as it is a border area and affect the Iraqi coast, through the analysis of morphological changes using the application of remote sensing techniques and GIS. As well as the use both a series of maps Admiral old and recent to monitor the temporal - spatial changes that took place in the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab (Delta Shatt al-Arab), also identify the factors affecting the Iraqi coast and regional maritime borders, whether natural or human, according to   the changes resulting from the lack of river discharges, which seems Clearly in the Shatt al-Arab Canal . when the discharge in the eighties of the last century more than 700 m3/S . These expenditures have been declining and decreasing significantly in recent years to reach less than 15 m3/S in the last two decades, due to the construction of several large irrigation projects and dams by riparian countries (Turkey, Iran and Syria),which led to a clear change in the movement and distribution sediments and the deviation of the entrance of the Shatt al-Arab with an area of ​​more than 4.667 square kilometers towards Iraqi territory until 2013 at a rate of 116 m2 and thus the loss of  large parts of Iraq coasts.

El objetivo principal de este trabajo se centra en la determinación y análisis de las variables ambientales que influyen en las divergencias de las estimaciones de erosionabilidad a partir de dos métodos, aplicando tres algoritmos de estimación del Factor K. La exploración de esta información permite conocer el peso que ejerce el origen de los datos de entrada a los modelos en el cómputo de erosionabilidad y qué importancia tiene en función del algoritmo elegido para la estimación del Factor K. Los resultados muestran que las pendientes, así como los índices de vegetación (NDVI) y de composición mineralógico (IOI) obtenidos mediantes técnicas de teledetección han   mostrado los valores de asociación más elevados entre ambos métodos.The main goal of this work is to determine and analyze the influence of environmental variables on the changes of two erodibility methods, through the application of three estimation algorithms of K Factor. The analysis of this information allows knowing the significance of the input data to the models in the erodibility estimation, and likewise the consequence of the algorithm selected for the estimation of K Factor. The results show that the slopes, as well as the vegetation index (NDVI) and the mineralogical composition index (IOI), generated both by remote sensing techniques, have shown the highest values of association between methods.

Transportation infrastructure in mountainous terrain and through river valleys is exposed to a variety of landslide phenomena. This is particularly the case for highway and railway corridors in Western Canada that connect towns and industries through prairie valleys and the Canadian cordillera. The fluidity of these corridors is important for the economy of the country and the safety of workers, and users of this infrastructure is paramount. Stabilization of all active slopes is financially challenging given the extensive area where landslides are a possibility, and monitoring and minimization of slope failure consequences becomes an attractive risk management strategy. In this regard, remote sensing techniques provide a means for enhancing the monitoring toolbox of the geotechnical engineer. This includes an improved identification of active landslides in large areas, robust complement to in-place instrumentation for enhanced landslide investigation, and an improved definition of landslide extents and deformation mechanisms. This paper builds upon the extensive literature on the application of remote sensing techniques and discusses practical insights gained from a suite of case studies from the authors’ experience in Western Canada. The review of the case studies presents a variety of landslide mechanisms and remote sensing technologies. The aim of the paper is to transfer some of the insights gained through these case studies to the reader.
