Dear Reader, An Amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations to permit scientifically developed plant based leads as drugs named “phytopharmaceuticals”, was notified for the first time in November 2015. This regulation has now been further amended and revised to put it under new drug definitions and provided more provisions for greater clarity in 2019. However, having championed these regulations (as part of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission’s Expert Committee on Herbals) for nearly a decade a greater number of drugs should have come out through this route given the scientific capability of the Indian drug sector and academia. However, the only information in the public domain as on date is the approval for conducting human clinical trials of a plant based lead for testing the protective or curative potency of Coculous hirsutus against SARS – CoV-2 given by the Drugs Controller General of India. A purified fraction of the stem of this plant commonly called broom creeper has been tested for sinnococculine markers as the lead drug candidate.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to posit a methodology for exploring promotional trailers in the public domain and a critical discussion of the findings therein. Design/methodology/approach – The approach utilises third part press as a mechanism to limit videosharing website results and allows for a varied corpus of data. Findings – The paper posits that the term “trailer” has shifted significantly since its original use in the film industry and now applies to a certain type of experiential promotion. Originality/value – This is the first time a methodology has been discussed that considers trailers as a shared vernacular term, rather than subject of historical archive.

This article puts into the public domain for the first time a correspondence between Valentine Ackland and Elizabeth Wade White written in January 1951. The affair between the two women which had begun in 1938 ended in 1950, although they continued to correspond and occasionally meet until Ackland’s death in 1969. The letters were written when both women were struggling to come to terms with the end of their physical and romantic attachment and were deeply unhappy. In the letters each correspondent analyses the history of the relationship and the causes of the fracture between them. The letters and their attachments are remarkable representations of love and guilt, heartache and compassion. Their publication adds to our knowledge of an affair which had repercussions for the lives not only of Ackland and Wade White but also for those of their life partners: Sylvia Townsend Warner and Evelyn Holahan.

For the first time in the history of peoples, the working people found a real homeland, which surrounded them with care and attention, like a loving mother. Caring for a person, about his health and life, has acquired the greatest embodiment since the time of the Great October Revolution. The class character of the old medicine was relegated to the realm of tradition, medicine became the public domain and completely devotes itself to the service of the working people. Exceptional attention is paid to caring for the health of the mother and child. In this regard, all conditions are created for powerful development and pediatrics; the 20 years passed after the revolution really testify to the wide development of this field of medicine.

The beautifully illustrated catalogues of Lieutenant General Pitt-Rivers collections at Farnham have recently been presented to the University of Cambridge — where they will be in the public domain for the first time. The background to the collections and their catalogues is an intriguing story, showing the precision and detail demanded by Pitt-Rivers for his Farnham Museum. We are pleased to present some examples here, printed in colour and showing the range of the Victorian collector par excellence.

The study of Buddhist texts can inform us of the way scriptures were composed, as well as illuminate the reasons behind their production. This study examines the phenomenon of borrowing and reusing portions of texts without attributing them to their ‘legitimate authors’ within the Buddhist world of contemporary Tibet. It shows that not only is such a practice not at all infrequent and is often socially accepted, but that it is used in this case as a platform to advance specific claims and promote an explicit agenda. Therefore, rather than considering these as instances of plagiarism, this essay looks at the practice of copying and borrowing as an exercise in intertextuality, intended as the faithful retransmission of ancient truths, and as an indication of the public domain of texts in Tibet.
