Dear Reader, Coinciding with the 60th Anniversary of IDMA, a true and vibrant transition phase is commencing for your association, its publications and allied activities. Dr. Viranchi Shah, the young and energetic Hon. President from “Vibrant Gujarat” is taking over the reigns of IDMA, with an equally young team of Executive committee members. We are confident that IDMA’s flag will fly high globally, all the more, in the coming years. It is time that the young (and the long-experienced ones too) get ready for the new integrated and synergised challenges of the 2020’s and 2030’s to keep pace with the clarion call for intense pharma research and innovation to keep pace with the west and the rest.

Dear Reader, It has been so truly said by Otto von Bismarck [former President of Prussia (German State) in 19th century] — ‘Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.’ It is the 10% existent wise men that lead - 90% trudge behind as followers – be it the political scenario, spiritual realm or world of science. Wise men become powerful and in the current Forbes list of such top 10 are 6 politicians, 1 religious head & 3 mega global entrepreneurs. In enterprises, when it comes to science and discovery, only 3 out of the top 10 have excelled in contributing to the world of medicine! Leaders are rare & leaders in medical domain are even rarer!

A popular proverb states ‘Don't play with your food’. This  maxim that not only concerns those of us who have the immense fortune of dedicating our working hours (and more if possible) to the noble discipline of archaeology and historical research. If anything is really clear to us, it is that Heritage (from the perspective of investigation, safeguard and management) is more than  the ‘food’ of a couple of professors and four tourist guides, but of many thousands whose income depends on it essentially through tourism. In fact, tourism in Spain in 2019 before the pandemic yielded 154,487 million Euros to the economy, representing 12.4% of its GDP. In fact, dear reader, please reflect on what drives you to go on vacation? And what leads you to choose one tourist destination over another? The response is simple: diversity. It represents a search for something that is unknown where you reside, something unique and unrepeatable that is only found at a particular destination, a unique setting offering an aesthetic or gastronomic experience that otherwise would not be worth the visiting. This book under review delves precisely into the question of this diversity we seek when traveling as it is Heritage (either material or intangible, artistic, monumental, archaeological or natural) that gives an identity to each city, each community. Heritage renders them different from other neighbouring cities. From a material point of view, Heritage is what attracts tourists and, even more, from a sentimental point of view, it is what offers signs of identity to locals. Thus in the end we are not only talking about ‘things to eat’.

Dear Reader, Nobel Laureate Prof. Amartya Sen cites a story of three children, Anne, Bob and Carla. Prof. Sen quotes Aristotle and Bentham too while narrating the story, I heard from Prof (Dr.) James Nedumpara at his recent live lecture at Jindal Global Law School. This story fascinated me and it goes like this. Clara worked hard to successfully build a flute. Anne knows to play the flute, but Clara does not know to play the flute. Bob, the third child, does NOT have any toys to play with, so he wants the flute. All the children are claimants to the flute. Prof. Sen and many legal luminaries quote many legal theories such as Libertarianism, Utilitarianism, Egalitarian and also try to distinguish between “Niti and Nyaya” to resolve this problem, as to who merits (deserts and deserve) to keep the flute.
