Prosthetic rehabilitation of microstomia patients due to oral submucous fibrosis presents difficulties at all stages as the maximal oral opening is smaller than the size of a complete denture. Several techniques have been described for use when either standard impression trays or the denture itself becomes too difficult to place and remove from the mouth. This article describes a different design for the fabrication of maxillary and mandibular sectional trays to enable easier and efficient impression making in a patient with limited oral opening.

AbstractThis case report deals with treatment of a female patient aged 45 years with limited mouth opening due to submucous fibrosis ,who was completely edentulous and was prosthetically treated with modification of techniques for impression making and jaw relation so that a complete denture was made without sections which could be easily inserted and removed without compromising retention and esthetics.

Oral submucous fibrosis is a premalignant condition, characterized by fibrosis in oral mucosa causing stiffness of mucosa and leading to reduced mouth opening. The malignant transformation of oral submucous fibrosis is very high among the rest of the premalignant conditions. Chronic chewing of arecanut causes production of myofibroblasts. These myofibroblasts plays an important role in neoangiogenesis as well as disintegration of the basement membrane at the tumor invasive front leading to carcinoma.  Here, we are doing an Immunohistochemical study using alpha SMA for proper microscopic visulizations of myofibroblastic activity in an OSF patient, encompassing the pathogenesis and malignant potentiality of the disease.

AbstractSeveral difficulties are encountered in providing a successful, single complete denture treatment. This case report deals with successful rehabilitation of completely resorbed mandibular ridge opposing a full complement of natural teeth prosthetically incorporating metal denture base in place of the conventional Poly Methyl Methacrylate material to combat the masticatory forces from natural dentition and improve the longevity of the prosthetic rehabilitation, at the same time improving the strength of the mandibular denture base.
