Two new 1-D Cd(II) complexes, {[Cd(imb)(μ2-Cl)Cl]·CH3OH}n (1) and {[Cd(imb)(μ2- Cl)Cl]·DMF}n (2), have been synthesized by the reactions of the unsymmetrical ligand 2-(1Himidazol- 1-yl-methyl)-1H-benzimidazole (imb) with CdCl2·2.5H2O in methanol or methanol=DMF solution at room temperature, and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 displays a ladder-shaped chain in which [Cd2Cl4] units are linked to each other through two bridging imb ligands. Complex 2 features an infinite looped chain structure composed of two kinds of rings, the smaller [Cd2Cl2] ring and the larger [Cd2imb2] ring, connected alternately via their Cd(II) ions. The different architectures of complexes 1 and 2 can be generated by solvent exchange. The IR spectra and fluorescence properties of the complexes have been also investigated.

AbstractTwo new complexes, {[Cd(immb)I2]·DMF}n (1) and {[Cd3(immb)(btc)2]·H2O}n (2) (immb = 2-(1H-imidazol- 1-methyl)-6-methyl-1H-benzimidazole, btc = 1,2,3-benzenetricarboxylate, DMF = dimethyl formamide), have been synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1 exhibits a chain structure constructed by immb ligands bridging Cd(II) ions. In 2, Cd(II) ions are linked by immb ligands with bridging mode and btc3– anions with the μ2-η2:η1 bonding pattern leading to a 2D structure. Luminescent properties have been investigated in the solid state at room temperature.

A new Zn(II) complex [Zn2(bimt)2(Ac)(OH)]n (1) has been synthesized by the reaction of the flexible ligand 2-(benzoimidazol-2-yl-methyl)-1H-tetrazole (Hbimt) with Zn(Ac)2 · 2H2O and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectra. In complex 1, Zn1 and Zn2 ions are connected by μ2-bridging acetate and hydroxide groups to form a 6-membered ring. The bimt units coordinate to Zn1 and Zn2 ions in a bidentate bridging mode with two nitrogen atoms from the same benzoimidazole ring and connect the 6-membered rings resulting in the formation of a 2D network structure. Adjacent layers are further packed to a threedimensional network through van der Waals bonds. A thermogravimetric analysis was carried out, and the photoluminescent behavior of the complex was investigated.

AbstractThe reaction of Cu(II) nitrate with sodium 2-chlorobenzoate (NaL1) and (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethene (dpe) yields a new complex [Cu(L1)2(dpe)(H2O)] (1). When Zn(II) nitrate reacts with sodium 4-chlorobenzoate (NaL2) and 1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethane (dpa), [Zn(L2)2(dpa)]·CH3OH (2) is obtained. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 shows a 3D CdS network structure with uninodal 4-connected (65.8) topology; complex 2 displays a chain structure.

The hydrothermal reaction of Zn(II) nitrate with 5-(pyridin-2-ylmethylamino)isophthalic acid (H2L) yields the complex [Zn(L)(H2O)] 2H2O (1). When 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) as auxiliary ligand and Cd(II) nitrate were used in the alkaline reaction system, [Cd(L)(H2O)(bpy)] 3H2O (2) was obtained. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, IR, elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complex 1 shows a 2D fes network structure with uninodal 3-connected (4.82) topology, which is further linked by hydrogen bonding to give rise to a 3D supramolecular framework; complex 2 displays a chain structure. Interestingly, tetranuclear water clusters were generated in 1, which are interlinked to fabricate a water chain structure. The fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated

A new mononuclear europium complex incorporating the (+)-di-p-toluoyl-D-tartaric acid (D-H2DTTA) ligand, namely, catena-poly[tris{μ2-3-carboxy-2,3-bis[(4-methylphenyl)carbonyloxy]propanoato}tris(methanol)europium(III)], [Eu(C20H17O8)3(CH3OH)3] n , (I), has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure analysis indicates that complex (I) crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3 and exhibits an infinite one-dimensional chain structure, in which the Eu3+ ion is surrounded by six O atoms from six D-HDTTA− ligands and three O atoms from three coordinated methanol molecules, thus forming a tricapped trigonal prism geometry. The D-H2DTTA ligand is partially deprotonated and adopts a μ1,6-coordination mode via two carboxylate groups to link adjacent Eu3+ ions, affording an infinite one-dimensional propeller-shaped coordination polymer chain along the c axis, with an Eu...Eu distance of 7.622 (1) Å. Moreover, C—H...π interactions lead to the formation of helical chains running along the c axis and the whole structure displays a snowflake pattern in the ab plane. The circular dichroism spectrum confirms the chirality of complex (I). The solid-state photoluminescence properties were also investigated at room temperature and (I) exhibits characteristic red emission bands derived from the Eu3+ ion (CIE 0.63, 0.32), with a reasonably long lifetime of 0.394 ms, indicating effective energy transfer from the ligand to the metal centre. In addition, a magnetic investigation reveals single-ion magnetic behaviour. The spin-orbit coupling parameter (λ) between the ground and excited states is fitted to be 360 (2) cm−1 through Zeeman perturbation. Therefore, complex (I) may be regarded as a chiral optical-magneto bifunctional material.

Two new Zn (II) coordination polymers with 3-nitrobenzoato ligands have been prepared, and their structures have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The structure of [Zn (3-nbz)2(μ-4,4'-bpy)]n(1) (3-nbz = 3-nitrobenzoato, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine) shows 1-D chains originating from terminal 3-nbz ligands andμ-4,4'-bpy molecules. The chains are further connected through face-to-face π stacking interactions to genenate a 2-D supramolecular layer. In Zn (3-nbz)2(2,2'-bpy) (2) (2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), carboxylate groups exhibit chelated bidentate to give discrete mononuclear units, which are linked by face-to-face π-π and C-H···π interactions to produce a 1-D supramolecular chain.

catena-Poly[[[4-amino-N-(quinoxalin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamidato]aquacadmium(II)]-μ-4-amino-N-(quinoxalin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamidato], [Cd(C14H11N4O2S)2(H2O)], has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, fluorescence, IR and thermal analysis. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the complex is a one-dimensional zigzag chain structure, and the CdIIcation has a distorted octahedral coordination geometry formed by five N atoms from three different sulfaquinoxaline ligands and one O atom from a water molecule. The fluorescence spectrum reveals that the complex emits strong blue fluorescence and thermal analysis shows that the complex has high thermal stability.
