The research aimed at verifi cation of fungi species colonizing phyllosphere of pontic azalea <em>Azalea pontica </em>L. and at comparison of the fungi species composition: – in the natural stand in the Kołacznia nature reserve, – in arboretum collections at Bolestraszyce and Rogów. 600 fragments of healthy, infected and fallen leaves of pontic azalea were collected for mycological analyses. The species forming the largest number of colonies identified from the healthy leaves were: <em>A. alternata</em>, <em>Ph. cyclaminis</em>, <em>E. nigrum</em>, <em>Ph. medicaginis </em>and <em>B. cinerea, </em>from infected leaves<em>: A. alternata</em>, <em>E. nigrum, Ph. cyclaminis</em>, <em>S. fi micola</em>, <em>T. viride </em>and <em>A. phaeospermum, </em>whereas: <em>E. nigrum</em>, <em>A. alternata</em>, <em>S. fi micola</em>, <em>Ph. cyclaminis and B. cinerea </em>were isolated from the fallen leaves, which indicates that a majority of fungi persistently colonize the leaves during vegetation period and damage them, which leads to defoliation. Colonization of pontic azalea phyllosphere in arboreta by more numerous fungi colonies and species than under conditions of natural sites evidences their increased pressure in the arboreta environment.

New data was added to the oribatid species composition of the Rivnensky Nature Reserve. Overall, 62 mite species were recorded for the territory of research in this study. The species Acrogalumna longipluma, Micreremus brevipes, Licneremaeus licnophorus, Oribatella reticulata, and Porobelba spinosa were not previously listed for the Western Polissia. Of the 60 species of Lower Oribatida mites that have been recorded by other authors in that area, only 18 are found again in the Rivnensky Nature Reserve, indicating that our results are intermediate. A representative of the genus Mainothrus Choi, 1996 (Mainothrus badius (Berlese, 1905)) is found in Ukraine for the first time.

Species composition of liverworts of unique natural feature of Kamchatka — Uzon Volcano caldera is listed. It includes 38 species. 29 of them are found for the first time for the Uzon caldera. Marsupella funckii, Nardia assamica, N. unispiralis included in Red Data Book of Kamchatka (2007).

The results of nomenclature-taxonomic revision of the flora marine macrophytes of the Kazantip Nature Reserve (KNR) are presented. Currently, with the new data the species composition includes 73 species and intraspecific taxon (IST) of macroalgae and sea grasses. Taxonomic structure of flora of the macrophytes of the KNR includes 4 phylums, 7 classes, 19 orders, 28 families, (F), 37 genera. Chlorophyta - 33 species, Ochrophyta - 11, Rhodophyta - 25, Tracheophyta - 4. In the flora prevail mesosaprobic (44%), annuae (58%), brackish-sea (51%), warm-water (40%) species. The category of rare fraction includes 14 species.

Natural  stand changes in the forest reserve of Liedekerke were analysed during the  period    1986-1996, using a permanent grid of circular plots. The monitoring  concentrated on natural    changes in species composition, using stem number and basal area as  indicators, and changes    in spatial distribution and colonization capacities of trees and shrubs,  with special interest in the    competition between exotic and indigenous species. After only a decade of  monitoring important    natural changes in the woody layer were detected. The pioneer forest is  gradually maturing    through self-thinning processes and shifts in species composition. The  overall stem number    decreased with 33.6%, while the basal area increased with 20.9%. Birch (Betula pendula/    pubescens) and indigenous oak (Quercus robur/petraea) remained  dominant. More tolerant    exotic species, like red oak (Quercus rubra) and sweet chestnut (Castanea  sativa), are slowly    increasing their share in the species composition and expanding their  range. Pioneer species on    the other hand, like aspen (Populus tremula), willow (Salix  capreaicinerealaurita), alder buckthorn    (Frangula alnus) and  common (Alnus glutinosa)  and grey alder (A. incana),  strongly declined.    Black cherry (Prunus serotina) seems to be slowly invading the forest due to its  massive    natural regeneration. Strong competition may be expected especially from  rowan ash (Sorbus    aucuparia), which showed similar regeneration  and colonization capacities. Elder (Sambucus    nigra) dramatically extented its range, though  its share remains marginal. Beech remained absent    most probably due to the lack of mature trees in the vacinity of the  forest. Finally this    change detection allowed that general predictions could be made on the  future natural development    and composition of this forest reserve, which could serve forest management  decisions.

The object of our work was the identification and quantification of inorganic elements in Ginkgo biloba L. leaves (Ginkgonis folium, Ginkgoaceae) by X-ray fluorescence analysis. The plant material was obtained from a 50-years-old female tree at the Comenius University Botanical Garden (Bratislava, Slovakia). Leaves were collected from early May to late September, with the last sample consisting of fallen leaves. The elements analyzed were: phosphorus, sulfur, potassium, calcium, scandium, iron, zinc, yttrium, molybdenum, tellurium, samarium, gadolinium, dysprosium, iridium, thallium and lead. The amounts of the monitored heavy metals were below the limits specified in Ph. Eur. 7 and PhS 1.

Lichen is a symbiotic organism, made up of two or more different organisms living together. Lichen biodiversity may provide an excellent system in bio-monitoring of the ecosystem health of nature reserve areas such as Rawa Danau in Banten Province, Indonesia.   The study on lichen diversity was conducted on Rawa Danau based on altitude using transect based plot in three main habitats based on altitude e.g. 90 mbsl, 100-130 mbsl, 130-160 mbsl, 160-187 mbsl.  A total 63 specimens were collected from these four areas which resulted in the occurrence of 19 species  of lichens belonging to 17 genera and 13 families. Shannon–Winner’s diversity index from 1.494 to 2.6678. The variation in species composition was related to the environmental habitat variables and lichens demonstrated a condition of environmental alteration.

Complete lists of biota are the scientific foundation on which studies of the regional biological diversity are based. Modern research based on new methods and approaches has contributed to formation of a new classification scheme of Cyanobacteria, which reveals the evolutionary history of the group. In this context, there is a need to revise data on the species composition of Cyanobacteria of various biotopes, which is especially important for protected areas. The article presents the results of the species composition revision of the supralittoral Cyanobacteria from the Nature Reserve “Cape Martyan” (de facto it has the status of a nature park now). The studies were carried out on the site of a natural boulder-block shore located directly on Cape Martyan, in the supralittoral zone of the sea. Updated list of Cyanobacteria from marine rocky supralittoral in the Nature Reserve “Cape Martyan” consists of 69 species. Species are representatives of 1 class, 2 subclasses, 6 orders, 18 families and 35 genera. The Oscillatoriaceae and Rivulariaceae families are represented the most diversely. Chroococcus, Lyngbya and Gloeocapsa dominate among the genera. The category of rare species includes 21 taxa, which makes up a third of the species list. Biological and ecological characteristics were given for the studied species. The supralittoral Cyanobacteria of Nature Reserve “Cape Martyan” is characterized by the predominance of attached benthic, benthic-soil and plankton-benthic forms, as well as marine and brackish-water forms, which is a typical feature of supralittoral microalgoflora. At the same time, the predominance of cosmopolitans and wide-range boreal-tropical species emphasizes the azonality of the biotope of the marine rocky supralittoral.
