Laboratory Animal Research Centre (LARC) has developed an early emergency operational plan for COVID-19 pandemic situation. Biosafety and biosecurity measures were planned and implemented ahead of time to check the functional requirement to prevent the infection. Identified necessary support for IT, transport, procurement, finance, admin and research to make the operations remotely and successfully.

This paper presents a new truck dispatching policy approach that is adaptive given different mining complex configurations in order to deliver supply material extracted by the shovels to the processors. The method aims to improve adherence to the operational plan and fleet utilization in a mining complex context. Several sources of operational uncertainty arising from the loading, hauling and dumping activities can influence the dispatching strategy. Given a fixed sequence of extraction of the mining blocks provided by the short-term plan, a discrete event simulator model emulates the interaction arising from these mining operations. The continuous repetition of this simulator and a reward function, associating a score value to each dispatching decision, generate sample experiences to train a deep Q-learning reinforcement learning model. The model learns from past dispatching experience, such that when a new task is required, a well-informed decision can be quickly taken. The approach is tested at a copper–gold mining complex, characterized by uncertainties in equipment performance and geological attributes, and the results show improvements in terms of production targets, metal production, and fleet management.

To be successful, private practitioners must take a thoughtful approach to establishing and running their business. This chapter explains the valuable role that a well-thought-out business plan can play in a private practice. It outlines the elements of a business plan for a private practice and explains how thoughtful consideration of each can affect the viability and success of the business. The author discusses the importance of setting goals and using one’s guiding principles, vision statement, and mission statement when preparing all aspects of the business plan. This chapter reviews the basics of a business plan, including a marketing plan, an operational plan, and a financial plan, and provides real-world examples for developing each of these organizational building blocks.

This paper will describe the process under which the ASME Section XI Subcommittee works in addressing industry initiatives and setting of priorities and goals. Each calendar year an Operational Plan is developed which comprises the priorities and goals established for the different Subgroups and Working Groups that report directly to the Subcommittee XI. These goals include committee actions developed to respond to industry initiatives and concerns. This Operational Plan also helps establish the “work-list” of each Subgroup. This work-list provides the priority of the items to be worked on for the upcoming year. Just as any other business, the Subcommittee on Nuclear Inservice Inspection manages and prioritizes activities to meet the industry needs.

AbstractThe authors describe Italian public health intervention planning for civil nuclear emergencies. With the exception of a few special aspects of prophylaxis and therapy, public health intervention in the case of nuclear emergencies are basically the same as those planned for “conventional emergencies,” however, a key role in nuclear emergencies could be played by the psychological aspect. Two different situations must be considered: 1) nuclear accidents involving workers only; and 2) nuclear accidents involving population as well. Differences in public health intervention required to address these two situations are discussed, both in terms of public health personnel involved, and of public health means and structures that should be available.
