The nested planetary gear train, which has two integrated single-stage planetary gearsets, is one of the newly developed compound gear train that has been successfully applied to the automobile transmissions. In the current study, a certain type of gear fault in the nested gear train, ungrounded pinion, is investigated using a non-destructive approach monitoring its vibration levels. A novel experimental test stand with open and vertical setup has been designed to collect the vibrational data by mounting the accelerometer directly to the gear clutches. Each of the two layers of the compound gear was tested separately. The measured vibrational data were processed with several signal processing techniques, which includes (a) frequency spectrum analysis, (b) time synchronous averaging (TSA) and (c) modulation sideband analysis. The experimental results show that the existence of the ungrounded pinion can be identified with the frequency spectrum analysis of the vibrational data. In addition, the modulation sidebands are also modeled using a modified version of the traditional technique of physical signal modeling. It is shown that the relative phase of the planet and the meshing vibration strength changed by the unground gear is the critical factor for determining the modulation sideband behavior. In addition, the location of the ungrounded pinion can also be determined by the time history processed by TSA.

The pressure drop at critical fluidization for two-dimensional vibrated fluidized bed(240 mm×80 mm) was studied, with large particle glass beads of average diameters dp of 1.8mm, 2.5mm and 3.2mm.The effect of the vibration strength, the static bed height and the particle diameter on the pressure drop was analyzed. The results of the study show that the pressure drop decreases with the increase of the vibration strength. It plays an even more prominent part with decreases of the static bed height and the particle diameter. The empirical correlation equations to predict the pressure drop was established, and the results of the prediction was compared with the experimental data, the error is in range of ±10%. The results can provide references for future design and research on the vibrated fluidized bed.

In this paper the authors present the methodology and results of computational studies of the stress state and the evaluation of the construction durability with multipoint welded joints in the event of random vibration. A special feature of the technique is a detailed simulation of the stress state in the most stressed connection junctions, taking into account the change in the properties of the base material during welding. The empirical equations between the microhardness and the material yield point in the local zone of the welded point are used for this. The developed technique for numerical simulation of the dynamic stressed state of a construction with a point-welded joints can be used to assess the vibration strength of such constructions under conditions of random loading.

Compared with muscle or bone, there is a lack of information about the relationship between tendon adaptation and the applied loading characteristic. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the effect of different exercise modes characterized by very distinct loading patterns on the mechanical, morphological, and biochemical properties of the Achilles tendon. Sixty-four female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups: nonactive age-matched control (AMC; n = 20), voluntary wheel running (RT; n = 20), vibration strength-trained (LVST; n = 12), high-vibration strength-trained (HVST; n = 6), and high strength-trained (HST; n = 6) group. After a 12-wk-long experimental period, the Achilles tendon was tested mechanically and the cross-sectional area, the soleus and gastrocnemius muscle mass, and mRNA concentration of collagen I, collagen III, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), transforming growth factor-β, connective tissue growth factor, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 was determined. Neither in the LVST nor in the HVST group could any adaptation of the Achilles tendon be detected, although the training had an effect on the gastrocnemius muscle mass in the LVST group ( P < 0.05). In the HST group, the highest creep was found, but the effect was more pronounced compared with the LVST group ( P < 0.05) than with the AMC group. That indicates that this was rather induced by the low muscle mass rather than by training. However, the RT group had a higher TIMP-1 mRNA concentration in the Achilles tendon in contrast to AMC group ( P < 0.05), which suggests that this exercise mode may have an influence on tendon adaptation.

<div class=""abs_img""><img src=""[disp_template_path]/JRM/abst-image/00260006/10.jpg"" width=""300"" />Electric music baton system</div> We are developing an electronic baton system as an alternative haptic interface to facilitate music lessons for the visually impaired. This system incorporates an acceleration sensor in the baton, transmits data to a player via radio signals, and acts as a haptic interface by generating vibrations. In this paper, we experimentally evaluate responses to the stimulus of the visual and the tactile senses in order to verify that a haptic interface can substitute for vision in scenarios that involve real-time tasks, such as music lessons. In the first experiment, we verify that clue motions are important for both the visual and a tactile senses. Next, we test the new method of communicating strength. Thismethod uses not vibration strength but oscillating time for vibrations of the haptic device. The results of the experiment confirm that the technique is effective. </span>

Density functional calculations have been performed for the carbon monoxide molecule adsorption on AunPd+m(n+m ≤ 6) clusters. In the process of CO adsorption, small Au clusters and Pd clusters tend to be an Au atom and three Pd atoms adsorption, respectively. For the mixed Au-Pd clusters, an Au atom, a Pd atom, two atoms consisted of an Au atom and a Pd atom, two Pd atoms, and three Pd atoms adsorption structures are displayed. The highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) gaps and natural bond orbital charge population are calculated. Moreover, CO adsorption energy, CO stretching frequency, and CO bond length (upon adsorption) are also analysed in detail. The results predict that the adsorption strength of Au clusters with CO and the C-O vibration strength is enhanced and reduced after doping of Pd in the AunPdmCO+ complexes, respectively

Abstract: Vibration has been a serious problem to be discussed over the past years. Vibration has caused cosmetic damages to buildings and annoyance to the occupants of the building. Sources of vibration are usually produced by construction work, traffic, seismic effect and human activities. In this paper, the amplitude of vibration caused by demolition has been analyzed and the level of vibration and level of damage caused have been determined. Besides, the effect of the vibration strength due to distance from the source has also been studied. The vibration data due to demolition work was obtained and analyzed by using MATLAB software. The analyzed data in graphical form were compared with the Gordon vibration criteria to obtain the vibration limit and the level of vibration damage according to DOE (Malaysia) standard as well. The results indicated that the vibration at 1m distance and 10m distance from the vibration source will cause minor damage to the building whereas the vibration at 25m distance from the source is at the caution level. By comparing the Gordon vibration criteria curve, the vibration from 1m, 10m and 25m distance from the demolition vibration source are not suitable for sensitive equipment. This study also proved that the vibration strength will decrease as the distance from the source increases due to the loss of vibration energy during the propagation of vibration waves. Hence, the further the distance from the source, the weaker the strength of the vibration and lower level of damage on surrounding buildings.

The use of a car navigation device by a heavy auditory handicapped person is anticipated because acquisition restriction of driver's license becomes easy. This study is aimed for development of the sense of touch navigation which assumed the use of a car navigation device by a heavy auditory handicapped person. It is occurrence by phantom sensation to tactile perception with the tactile motor of the Flatness type and the core is unbalanced which attached to the both ears back, and we tried transmission of position information. The result of having compared an occurrence position by the vibration strength ratio with a recognition occurrence position by phantom sensation, high correlation was provided in all subjects. In addition, we evaluated performance as a presentation method. The resolving power that could show Phantom Sensation by a vibration motor was 6 from 4. As result, possibility of transmission of right and left direction information was suggested.
