A Delphi (consensus) process was used to obtain national agreement on competencies for registered nurses (RNs) in primary care. A draft of competencies was developed by key informants. Following this, nurses with primary care experience/expertise completed a Delphi survey to rate the importance of competency statements on a six-point Likert scale. Statements not reaching consensus (agreement ≥80%) were modified and included in a second (final) round. The first survey was completed by 63% ( n = 86/137) of participants and 84% ( n = 72/86) of these participants completed the second survey. Most statements ( n = 45) achieved agreement after the first survey; one statement was dropped and two were combined following the second round. The final list of competencies consists of 47 statements across six domains (professionalism; clinical practice; communication; collaboration and partnership; quality assurance, evaluation, and research; leadership). National competencies will help strengthen the RN workforce within primary care, improve team functioning, and support role integration/optimization.

The purpose of the South African Mathematics Olympiad is to generate interest in mathematics and to identify the most talented mathematical minds. Our focus is on how the handling of missing data affects the selection of the ‘best’ contestants. Two approaches handling missing data, applying the Rasch model, are described. The issue of guessing is investigated through a tailored analysis. We present two microanalyses to illustate how missing data may impact selection; the first investigates groups of contestants that may miss selection under particular conditions; the second focuses on two contestants each of whom answer 14 items correctly. This comparison raises questions about the proportion of correct to incorrect answers. Recommendations are made for future scoring of the test, which include reconsideration of negative marking and weighting as well as considering the inclusion of 150 or 200 contestants as opposed to 100 contestants for participation in the final round.

Currently, most basketball research is focused on professional and elite players. Studies at the amateur level are important to explain the physical and technical demands of competition and thus improve players’ and teams’ performance. The purpose of the present study was to describe the competitive demands of an amateur-level basketball team and to analyze the influence of different situational variables on the physical and technical performance indicators. Eleven amateur senior basketball players participated in six official final-round games during the 2018/2019 season. External, internal load, and notational analysis were registered by inertial devices, heart rate bands, and video analysis. The Kruskal-Wallis H-test was applied for comparisons based on playing positions, periods, and final quarter game outcome, with the post hoc comparison accomplished by a Mann-Whitney U test. The Spearman correlation coefficient was realized for the relational analysis. The results showed that: (a) guards covered more volume of displacements (effective on-court time: p < 0.01, E R 2 = 0.05; steps/min: p < 0.01, E R 2 = 0.28) and the centers performed competitive actions of higher load ([>8G] Imp/min: p < 0.01, E R 2 = 0.20; jumps/min: p < 0.01, E R 2 = 0.33); (b) a performance decreasing was found between the first and second half of the game; (c) in balanced matches there was the most individual technical performance (PIR/min: p < 0.98, E R 2 = 0.01), while in the unbalanced games more high-intensity impacts were seen ([>8G] Imp/min: p < 0.01, E R 2 = 0.07). The situational variables analyzed had an influence on athletic performance in amateur senior basketball players and should be considered for designing training sessions and planning strategies during official matches.

The Chicago bid to host the 2016 Olympics represented a particular variety of neoliberal policy action: a low-cost physical plan, largely dependent on private financing. It is quite possible that Chicago’s quick rejection in the final round of the host city competition was due to the more robust, state-supported bids mounted by its competitors, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. Despite the modest physical plan developed by the Chicago 2016 Committee, local proponents made grandiose claims regarding the economic impact of the proposed Chicago Games. This chapter provides an overview of the Chicago Olympic proposal: the process for developing the Olympic bid, the bid’s physical and fiscal plans. Additionally, interviews with Chicago 2016 Committee members and staff, civic leaders, and community activists that were conducted following the rejection of the Chicago bid found that many of the details of the Chicago bid were poorly understood by local elites, and that indeed, significant flaws in the Chicago bid were generally unrecognized.

This paper presents an intelligent and robust guidance, navigation and control solution for a rotary-wing UAV to carry out an autonomous cargo transportation mission between two moving platforms. Different from the conventional GPS/INS-only navigation scheme, this solution also integrates sophisticated Lidar and vision systems capable of precisely locating cargo loading and unloading positions. Besides, another complementary GPS/INS system is set up on the moving platforms with communication to the unmanned helicopter so that the controlled UAV is able to follow the dynamic platforms with good tracking performance. The whole system has been successfully implemented, and with its superb performance the Unmanned Systems Research Group from the National University of Singapore won the first place in the final round of the rotary-wing category competition of the 2nd AVIC Cup — International UAV Innovation Grand Prix 2013.
