This paper presents a conceptual toolbox, developed to support the design of CSCW applications in a large Esprit project, EuroCODE. Here, several groups of designers work to investigate computer support for cooperative work in large use organizations, at the same time as they work to develop an open development platform for CSCW applications. The conceptual toolbox has been developed to support communication in and among these design groups, between designers and users and in future use of the open development platform.

Rejecting the idea that one may design from a framework describing CSCW, the toolbox aims to support design by doing and help bridging between work with users, technical design, and insights gained from theoretical and empirical CSCW research.

With the development and popularization of intranet/Extranet and Internet, it provides vast development space for manufacturing industry. The computer support cooperative work such as collaborative design and collaborative manufacturing based on web is presented under the background. Computer Support Cooperative Work (CSCW) is defined that in the environment supported by computer technology, a groupware cooperatively work to accomplish a common task. The paper is focus on the construction of CSCW system and group collaborative work mode in CSCW. The group collaborative model of CSCW should be intensified further to abstract the features of group collaboration and direct the research on collaborative work technology.

This paper builds the design platform for the shield hydraulic support with variable parameters. The platform characterizes the following aspects: support’s mechanical modeling, the whole and parts designing, strength checking. With the aid of VC++ software development environment, the mechanical model with variable parameters is set up and the support design is carried on,including design and check of the whole support and its components, such as top beam, shielding beam, the baseboard and so on. The development of this software could shorten the research and development periods of supports with similar structures and provide the research and development platform for the support design.

The usefulness of applications which support cooperative work depends in its very nature on the way the cooperative work practice is organised. At the same time, the adoption of new technology is difficult and complex because of the amount of people involved and their distribution in time and space. This paper explores the possibilities of addressing this adoption process in a more simplified, yet systematic way without losing the focus on the interdependencies which characterise cooperative work. The notion of adoption is discussed as a dual process of adapting both the computer support to the work and adapting the work to the computer. A method called organisational prototyping is presented which aims at facilitating this adoption process. A case illustrates how organisa- tional prototyping was used in the adoption of a cooperative tool for managing projects within a large engineering company in Denmark.

The aim of computer support cooperative work (CSCW) research is to improve the level of collaborative work among group components. Therefore we must understand the collaborative mode among the members of group to direct the collaborative work and research. The research on group collaborative work mode in CSCW is to summarize the collaborative mode of human group under information society environment and direct the collaborative work technology research. The research on the group collaborative model of CSCW should be intensified further to abstract the features of group collaboration and direct the research on collaborative work technology. In CSCW field, there are many group collaborative modes, such as conversation model, meeting model, process model, activity model and so on.

During the last decade, literature about work has increasingly focused on the importance of collective communication, tacit knowledge, and group activities. The idea of designing computer support for groupbased work activities, which we loosely call ''cooperative work'', is a useful and challenging one, for it represents a break from design approaches that focused on centralized and bureaucratic systems of communication and control. To get a clearer idea of the meaning of cooperative work. this article will look at historical patterns of world organization and management strategies. It will contrast user-centered concepts of cooperative work, with the idea of seeing cooperative work in the context of democracy in the workplace. The focus on workplace democracy has been a main theme in the Scandinavian systems tradition. The article uses the Scandinavian tradition, with its roots in a Labor Process Approach as a way to analyze the meaning of cooperation for workplace democracy and its implication for the design of computer support.
