AbstractWe analyze the undulator radiation from planar bi-harmonic undulators with account for all principle losses in real devices. The exact analytical expressions for the UR spectrum, intensity, and the line shape are obtained in terms of special functions. The interplay of various broadening contribution is elucidated and their role is explored. Suspension and boost of certain harmonics by fine tuning the undulator parameters is demonstrated. The constant non-periodic magnetic constituents are studied to compensate the divergency of the electronic beam. The examples of harmonic generation in various undulator schemes with single and double period magnetic field are explored. Influence of inhomogeneous and homogeneous broadening on these harmonics is demonstrated. The analysis is applied to evaluate the harmonics in self-amplified spontaneous emission free electron laser.

The laser-induced plasma obtained from the liquid target and expanding across a steady magnetic field has been studied using atomic emission spectroscopy. The line emission from the plasma was enhanced (>1.5 times) in the presence of a magnetic field, whereas background emission decreases. Enhancement in line intensity was found to be mainly a function of plasma beta (β). An increased rate of three-body recombination in plasma particles due to the cooling of the plasma during its expansion and an increase in effective plasma density as a result of its confinement seems to be the reason behind this enhancement.

In this paper, feasibility of laser percussion drilling on highly reflective materials i.e., Al5052 using an assisting magnetic field was explored. During the laser percussion drilling, the Lorentz force generated by the assisting magnetic field affects the laser-induced plasma and results in significant influence of the laser percussion drilling. The magnetic field simulation was performed to investigate the field strength of the circular hollow permanent magnet. The influences of magnetic field and the laser radiation energy on the penetration depth and inlet diameter were examined.
