Wave simulations from two Boussinesq-type models: BOSZ (Roeber & Cheung, 2012) and FUNWAVE (Shi et al., 2012), and a non-hydrostatic model: XBeach (Roelvink et al., 2009), are compared to observational data in a harbor and along the exposed coast of northwest O'ahu Island, Hawai'i, under highly energetic sea/swell forcing conditions. In the present comparison we attempt to address whether the models can (i) reproduce the observed spectra at different locations over a fringing reef and inside a harbor, and; (ii) draw a consistent 2-dimensional picture of the gravity and IG wave fields throughout the computational domain.Recorded Presentation from the vICCE (YouTube Link): https://youtu.be/kbbOT0ZpnEo

An examination of some specialized lunar and planetary ephemerides has revealed inconsistencies in the adopted planetary masses, the presence of non-gravitational terms, and some outright numerical errors. They should be considered of temporary usefulness only, subject to subsequent amendment as required for the interpretation of observational data.

AbstractThe observational data of July 11, 1991 eclipse solar corona obtained by both electropolarimeter (EP) and CCD-matrix were processed. Using these data, the solar corona photometry was carried out. The results of EP data are compared with the ones of CCD data. It must be noted here that the CCD data give us only characteristics of the inner corona, while the EP data show the features of both the inner and middle corona up to 4R⊙. Standard flattening indexϵis evaluated from both data. The dependence of the flattening index on the distance from the solar limb is investigated. The isophotes in Na and Ca lines are plotted. Based on these data some ideas and conclusions on the type of the solar corona are presented.

SummaryFrom the analysis of the observational data of about 100 Ap stars, the radii have been computed under the assumption that Ap are main sequence stars. Radii range from 1.4 to 4.9 solar units. These values are all compatible with the Deutsch's period versus line-width relation.

Three-dimensional theatrical space is often taken for granted as a precondition of dance. Already in 1912, the choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky provoked much discussion with a work that seemingly turned the performance into a moving, two-dimensional picture. L'Après-midi d'un Faune has achieved notoriety because of the objections some contemporary critics raised against the ‘immoral’ behaviour of the principal character, but I argue the style of the work brought about an important shift in how dancing was conceptualised as something composed by a choreographic author.

In this article we propose two research techniques that can bridge the gap between quantitative and qualitative historical research. These are: (1) a multiple regression approach that gives information about general patterns between numerical variables and the selection of outliers for qualitative analysis; (2) a homogeneity analysis with alternating least squares that results in a two-dimensional picture in which the relationships between categorical variables are graphically presented.
