Abstract The spin Peltier effect (SPE) in Pt/Fe3O4 hybrid structures with epitaxial Fe3O4 layers synthesized by reactive sputtering using two different process gases, Ar/O2 and Kr/O2, was investigated. The magnitude of the SPE-induced temperature modulation for the Fe3O4 film grown using Kr/O2 was approximately 40% larger than that grown using Ar/O2 despite almost the same crystalline structures and magnetic and electric properties of the films. The enhancement of the SPE signal for the film grown with Kr/O2 can be attributed to an increase in the spin current injected into the Fe3O4 film owing to its large roughness.

Abstract Studied are the films of variously doped polycrystalline n-semiconductors (ZnO, SnO2) as selective sensitive elements (SE) of chemical sensors for various gases and vapours (ammonia, acetone, propane, ethanol, hexane, solvent, turpentine etc.) in artificial air. It has been revealed that their conductivity changes under temperature modulation makes possible data processing which identifies the impurities above. This processing is based on nonlinear regression estimation of so called principal parameters which set is unique for every concentration of every of the gases/vapours.

The application of a non-stationary regime of temperature modulation in metal oxide semiconductor sensor based on SnO2–Ag leads not only to a strongly increased sensor response, but also to a considerably improved sensor selectivity toward hydrogen sulfide. Selectivity with respect to other reducing gases (CO, NH3, H2) is about five orders of magnitude, enabling a correct selective determination of H2S in the presence of interfering gas components.
