We have performed early LOC estimation of Web applications (apps) created using the Yii framework by three nonlinear regression models with three predictors based on the normalizing transformations. We used two univariate transformations (the decimal logarithm and the Box-Cox transformation) and the Box-Cox four-variate transformation for constructing nonlinear regression models. The nonlinear regression model constructed by the Box-Cox four-variate transformation has better size prediction results compared to other regression ones based on the univariate transformations.

Traditional CCRMs (Constrained Center-and-Range Methods) in solving the problem of interval regression could hardly make tradeoffs between the overall fitting accuracy and the coincidence degree between the observed and predicted intervals and could also hardly reduce the number of disjoint elements between the observed and predicted intervals, as well as raise the average ratio of all predicted intervals contained within their observed intervals. This paper constructed a nonlinear regression model based on center-and-range method, in which the maximization of coincidence degree for the sample with the worst coincidence degree between the observed and predicted interval was incorporated into the traditional CCRM model’s objective. This novel nonlinear programming model was proven to be a convex one that satisfied K-T condition. Monte Carlo simulation shows that the model is degenerated to the compared CCRM+ model as the objective only contains the minimization of the overall fitting accuracy for both center and range sample series. In this situation, it could obtain a better solution than the use of the compared CCRM model. In addition, when the proposed model only takes into account the maximization of coincidence degree for the sample with the worst coincidence degree between the observed and predicted interval, the model shows a better performance than the CCRM+ model in terms of the average ratio of all predicted intervals contained within their observed intervals, as well as the average number of forecasts with 0% accuracy.

Passenger crowding in a city bus is uneven and the most crowded area always appears in the wheelbase of the carriage. The present study aimed to provide a sensitive indicator of the most crowded area to schedule bus headways online using a binocular camera sensor. The algorithm of standee density in the wheelbase area (SDWA) was given by a nonlinear regression model considering standees’ preferences for the standing area, and its goodness of fit and continuity were tested. Considering the characteristics of city bus operation, the proportion of the number of interstops determined from the SDWA was used as a judgment index for passenger crowding. Based on the SDWA algorithm and the judgment index, an online headway model of city buses was proposed, and the feasibility of such a model was verified through a case study in Xi’an city. The proposed model might be beneficial to bus scheduling, seating provision, and bus design.

Many developing countries including China are implementing increasingly stringent environmental regulations to achieve sustainable development. However, we have limited understanding about whether environmental regulations promote enterprise innovation. To address this research gap, this study empirically analyzes the impact of environmental regulations which is represented by the China Environmental Protection Law (2015) on enterprise innovation and it explores the moderating effects of official communication on environmental regulations and corporate innovation. The Super-Slacks-Based Measure (Super-SBM) model and Multiple Nonlinear Regression model are used to analyze 34,074 samples in China’s A-share market during the 2015–2017 period. Our results show that, in general, a higher intensity of environmental regulations is more beneficial to incentivize enterprises to implement innovation. Meanwhile, there is an inverted U-type relationship between official communication and innovation of enterprises. Furthermore, at present, the average level of official communication in China is too high, which will weaken the role of environmental regulation in promoting enterprise innovation. Overall, this study can help us better understand the politics behind enterprise innovation in countries.

Electrohydraulic expansion joining has great potential for joining the light weight and high strength thin-walled pipes due to its high strain rate. Based on the central composite design (CCD) of response surface methodology, multiple experiments of electrohydraulic expansion joining process were performed. The multivariate quadratic nonlinear regression model between process parameters (discharge voltage, wire length, and wire diameter) and the ultimate pull-out load of the joints was established. The results revealed that discharge voltage, wire length and wire diameter all had a significant effect on the ultimate pull-out load. The discharge voltage had the most significant effect. The interaction between the discharge voltage and the wire diameter had a significant effect on the ultimate pull-out load. The optimal parameter combination (discharge voltage = 6 kV, wire length = 10 mm, wire diameter = 0.833 mm) was obtained and verified through the experiments. This study would provide guidance for the choice of the process parameters in real applications.
