We consider positivity of sum $\sum_{i=1}^np_if(x_i)$ involving convex functions of higher order. Analogous for integral $\int_a^bp(x)f(g(x))dx$ is also given. Representation of a function $f$ via the Fink identity and the Green function leads us to identities for which we obtain conditions for positivity of the mentioned sum and integral. We obtain bounds for integral remainders which occur in those identities as well as corresponding mean value theorems.

We present a simple form of the Wightman axioms in a four-dimensional Minkowski space-time which are supposed to define a physically interesting interacting quantum field theory. Two important consequences follow from these axioms. The first is the invariance under CPT which implies, in particular, the equality of masses and lifetimes for particles and anti-particles. The second is the connection between spin and statistics. We give examples of interacting field theories and develop the perturbation expansion for Green functions. We derive the Feynman rules, both in configuration and in momentum space, for some simple interacting theories. The rules are unambiguous and allow, in principle, to compute any Green function at any order in perturbation.

Loop diagrams often yield ultraviolet divergent integrals. We introduce the concept of one-particle irreducible diagrams and develop the power counting argument which makes possible the classification of quantum field theories into non-renormalisable, renormalisable and super-renormalisable. We describe some regularisation schemes with particular emphasis on dimensional regularisation. The renormalisation programme is described at one loop order for φ‎4 and QED. We argue, without presenting the detailed proof, that the programme can be extended to any finite order in the perturbation expansion for every renormalisable (or super-renormalisable) quantum field theory. We derive the equation of the renormalisation group and explain how it can be used in order to study the asymptotic behaviour of Green functions. This makes it possible to introduce the concept of asymptotic freedom.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to present a procedure for the estimation of the smallest eigenvalues and their associated eigenfunctions of nth order linear boundary value problems with homogeneous boundary conditions defined in terms of quasi-derivatives. The procedure is based on the iterative application of the equivalent integral operator to functions of a cone and the calculation of the Collatz–Wielandt numbers of such functions. Some results on the sign of the Green functions of the boundary value problems are also provided.

AbstractWe determine the behavior of automorphic Green functions along the boundary components of toroidal compactifications of orthogonal Shimura varieties. We use this analysis to define boundary components of special divisors and prove that the generating series of the resulting special divisors on a toroidal compactification is modular.

Abstract Lusztig’s algorithm of computing generalized Green functions of reductive groups involves an ambiguity on certain scalars. In this paper, for reductive groups of classical type with arbitrary characteristic, we determine those scalars explicitly, and eliminate the ambiguity. Our results imply that all the generalized Green functions of classical type are computable.
