AbstractIn this paper, we study the geometry of GT-varieties $$X_{d}$$ X d with group a finite cyclic group $$\Gamma \subset {{\,\mathrm{GL}\,}}(n+1,\mathbb {K})$$ Γ ⊂ GL ( n + 1 , K ) of order d. We prove that the homogeneous ideal $${{\,\mathrm{I}\,}}(X_{d})$$ I ( X d ) of $$X_{d}$$ X d is generated by binomials of degree at most 3 and we provide examples reaching this bound. We give a combinatorial description of the canonical module of the homogeneous coordinate ring of $$X_{d}$$ X d and we show that it is generated by monomial invariants of $$\Gamma $$ Γ of degree d and 2d. This allows us to characterize the Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of the homogeneous coordinate ring of $$X_d$$ X d . Finally, we compute the cohomology table of the normal bundle of the so-called RL-varieties. They are projections of the Veronese variety $$\nu _{d}(\mathbb {P}^{n}) \subset \mathbb {P}^{\left( {\begin{array}{c}n+d\\ n\end{array}}\right) -1}$$ ν d ( P n ) ⊂ P n + d n - 1 which naturally arise from level GT-varieties.

Abstract Let I be a homogeneous ideal in a polynomial ring S. In this paper, we extend the study of the asymptotic behavior of the minimum distance function δI of I and give bounds for its stabilization point, rI , when I is an F -pure or a square-free monomial ideal. These bounds are related with the dimension and the Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of I.

AbstractWe prove upper bounds for the graded Betti numbers of Stanley-Reisner rings of balanced simplicial complexes. Along the way we show bounds for Cohen-Macaulay graded rings S/I, where S is a polynomial ring and $I\subseteq S$ I ⊆ S is a homogeneous ideal containing a certain number of generators in degree 2, including the squares of the variables. Using similar techniques we provide upper bounds for the number of linear syzygies for Stanley-Reisner rings of balanced normal pseudomanifolds. Moreover, we compute explicitly the graded Betti numbers of cross-polytopal stacked spheres, and show that they only depend on the dimension and the number of vertices, rather than also the combinatorial type.

Given a homogeneous ideal I⊆k[x0,…,xn], the Containment problem studies the relation between symbolic and regular powers of I, that is, it asks for which pairs m,r∈N, I(m)⊆Ir holds. In the last years, several conjectures have been posed on this problem, creating an active area of current interests and ongoing investigations. In this paper, we investigated the Stable Harbourne Conjecture and the Stable Harbourne–Huneke Conjecture, and we show that they hold for the defining ideal of a Complement of a Steiner configuration of points in Pkn. We can also show that the ideal of a Complement of a Steiner Configuration of points has expected resurgence, that is, its resurgence is strictly less than its big height, and it also satisfies Chudnovsky and Demailly’s Conjectures. Moreover, given a hypergraph H, we also study the relation between its colourability and the failure of the containment problem for the cover ideal associated to H. We apply these results in the case that H is a Steiner System.

Let R R be the face ring of a simplicial complex of dimension d − 1 d-1 and R ( n ) {\mathcal R}({\mathfrak {n}}) be the Rees algebra of the maximal homogeneous ideal n {\mathfrak {n}} of R . R. We show that the generalized Hilbert-Kunz function H K ( s ) = ℓ ( R ( n ) / ( n , n t ) [ s ] ) HK(s)=\ell ({\mathcal {R}}({\mathfrak {n}})/({\mathfrak {n}}, {\mathfrak {n}} t)^{[s]}) is given by a polynomial for all large s . s. We calculate it in many examples and also provide a Macaulay2 code for computing H K ( s ) . HK(s).

Let Γ be a commutative monoid, R=⨁α∈ΓRα a Γ-graded ring and S a multiplicative subset of R0. We define R to be a graded S-Noetherian ring if every homogeneous ideal of R is S-finite. In this paper, we characterize when the ring R is a graded S-Noetherian ring. As a special case, we also determine when the semigroup ring is a graded S-Noetherian ring. Finally, we give an example of a graded S-Noetherian ring which is not an S-Noetherian ring.

Given a nontrivial homogeneous ideal [Formula: see text], a problem of great recent interest has been the comparison of the [Formula: see text]th ordinary power of [Formula: see text] and the [Formula: see text]th symbolic power [Formula: see text]. This comparison has been undertaken directly via an exploration of which exponents [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] guarantee the subset containment [Formula: see text] and asymptotically via a computation of the resurgence [Formula: see text], a number for which any [Formula: see text] guarantees [Formula: see text]. Recently, a third quantity, the symbolic defect, was introduced; as [Formula: see text], the symbolic defect is the minimal number of generators required to add to [Formula: see text] in order to get [Formula: see text]. We consider these various means of comparison when [Formula: see text] is the edge ideal of certain graphs by describing an ideal [Formula: see text] for which [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] is the edge ideal of an odd cycle, our description of the structure of [Formula: see text] yields solutions to both the direct and asymptotic containment questions, as well as a partial computation of the sequence of symbolic defects.
