AbstractWe describe the idempotent Fourier multipliers that act contractively on $$H^p$$ H p spaces of the d-dimensional torus $$\mathbb {T}^d$$ T d for $$d\ge 1$$ d ≥ 1 and $$1\le p \le \infty $$ 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞ . When p is not an even integer, such multipliers are just restrictions of contractive idempotent multipliers on $$L^p$$ L p spaces, which in turn can be described by suitably combining results of Rudin and Andô. When $$p=2(n+1)$$ p = 2 ( n + 1 ) , with n a positive integer, contractivity depends in an interesting geometric way on n, d, and the dimension of the set of frequencies associated with the multiplier. Our results allow us to construct a linear operator that is densely defined on $$H^p(\mathbb {T}^\infty )$$ H p ( T ∞ ) for every $$1 \le p \le \infty $$ 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞ and that extends to a bounded operator if and only if $$p=2,4,\ldots ,2(n+1)$$ p = 2 , 4 , … , 2 ( n + 1 ) .

We establish the convergences (with respect to the simulation time $t$; the number of particles $N$; the timestep $\gamma$) of a Moran/Fleming-Viot type particle scheme toward the quasi-stationary distribution of a diffusion on the $d$-dimensional torus, killed at a smooth rate. In these conditions, quantitative bounds are obtained that, for each parameter ($t\rightarrow \infty$, $N\rightarrow \infty$ or $\gamma\rightarrow 0$) are independent from the two others. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

In this paper, we study closed orientable Euclidean manifolds which are also known as flat three-dimensional manifolds or just Euclidean 3-forms. Up to homeomorphism, there are six of them. The first one is the three-dimensional torus. In 1972, Fox showed that the 3-torus is not a double branched covering of the 3-sphere. So, it is not a hyperelliptic manifold. In this paper, we show that all the remaining Euclidean 3-forms are hyperelliptic manifolds.

Abstract Rudnick and Wigman (2008) conjectured that the variance of the volume of the nodal set of arithmetic random waves on the d-dimensional torus is O ⁢ ( E / 𝒩 ) {O(E/\mathcal{N})} , as E → ∞ {E\to\infty} , where E is the energy and 𝒩 {\mathcal{N}} is the dimension of the eigenspace corresponding to E. Previous results have established this with stronger asymptotics when d = 2 {d=2} and d = 3 {d=3} . In this brief note we prove an upper bound of the form O ⁢ ( E / 𝒩 1 + α ⁢ ( d ) - ϵ ) {O(E/\mathcal{N}^{1+\alpha(d)-\epsilon})} , for any ϵ > 0 {\epsilon>0} and d ≥ 4 {d\geq 4} , where α ⁢ ( d ) {\alpha(d)} is positive and tends to zero with d. The power saving is the best possible with the current method (up to ϵ) when d ≥ 5 {d\geq 5} due to the proof of the ℓ 2 {\ell^{2}} -decoupling conjecture by Bourgain and Demeter.

AbstractWe consider the Kuramoto–Sivashinsky equation (KSE) on the two-dimensional torus in the presence of advection by a given background shear flow. Under the assumption that the shear has a finite number of critical points and there are linearly growing modes only in the direction of the shear, we prove global existence of solutions with data in $$L^2$$ L 2 , using a bootstrap argument. The initial data can be taken arbitrarily large.

Abstract We discuss the modular symmetry and zeros of zero-mode wave functions on two-dimensional torus T2 and toroidal orbifolds T2/ℤN (N = 2, 3, 4, 6) with a background homogeneous magnetic field. As is well-known, magnetic flux contributes to the index in the Atiyah-Singer index theorem. The zeros in magnetic compactifications therefore play an important role, as investigated in a series of recent papers. Focusing on the zeros and their positions, we study what type of boundary conditions must be satisfied by the zero modes after the modular transformation. The consideration in this paper justifies that the boundary conditions are common before and after the modular transformation.

Abstract. This paper contains a complete classification of algebraic non-hyperbolic automorphisms of a two-dimensional torus, announced by S. Batterson in 1979. Such automorphisms include all periodic automorphisms. Their classification is directly related to the topological classification of gradient-like diffeomorphisms of surfaces, since according to the results of V. Z. Grines and A.N. Bezdenezhykh, any gradient like orientation-preserving diffeomorphism of an orientable surface is represented as a superposition of the time-1 map of a gradient-like flow and some periodic homeomorphism. J. Nielsen found necessary and sufficient conditions for the topological conjugacy of orientation-preserving periodic homeomorphisms of orientable surfaces by means of orientation-preserving homeomorphisms. The results of this work allow us to completely solve the problem of realization all classes of topological conjugacy of periodic maps that are not homotopic to the identity in the case of a torus. Particularly, it follows from the present paper and the work of that if the surface is a two-dimensional torus, then there are exactly seven such classes, each of which is represented by algebraic automorphism of a two-dimensional torus induced by some periodic matrix.
